@emtildeath I again think the recces would give the SAS a good run for their money, because the recces are based on the SAS wich means they operate more or less the same way. There are ALLOT of secrecy around the recces and what their capabilities are (for good reasons). Where as the SAS are very much in the public eye. But then again I think it depends on the theatre of operation, NO-ONE beats the recces in bush warfare and survival. were as the SAS are masters in urban situations.
Apparently most of these guys have gotten into to whole contractor business since the Iraq/Afgahn wars (this was filmed in the 90s) with better pay and all. Its actually kinds sad, these guys are paid as much as regular police, which is fuck all.
Get rid of that 9mm and purchase a S and W .40 or .45 . I love the 9mm but when it comes to putting someone on their ass you need to move up. LAPD found that out in 1996 during the bank shoot out.
My Uncle is a high ranking Chief in South African Police in Johannesburg, yes he's the one who decides if the Special Task Force is deployed and they are extemely well trained force. The SAS played a huge role in training the STF and alot of members were ex SAS or SBS in the early years.
@WICKEDMAN85 But they are going up against AK-47's a nasty round. They should be given AR-15's with the .223 or armed with the H and K UMP .45. I agree that it is only a pistol round but the .223 will go through body armour..
@1998disco72 Its not Call of Duty and they don't have a massive budget for fancy toys, besides most guns are good as long as they well kept and you can use them correctly.
how come it always come down to black and white? why should that question be asked?
is it because every one is obsessed with the past?
if u good enough the u deserve to do the job, whether u black or white.
these guys are at the top of the of the wolds best.. up there next to SAS.. why should race always be a question.. thats why south africa is in the state it is... cause race is such a big issue, that they forget about the skill and ability of the the employee...
they are not up there next to the sas, they do completley different jobs, they are spec ops police, the equivelent to swat in america, the sas are a spec ops military unit deployed behind enemy lines in warzones,do you think these guys have ever fired a gpmg or a anti tank missile,or called in airstrikes on there missions, i doubt it
@rangers11000 The STF are fully trained in bush warfare, and are all trained in parachuting. SWAT is mostly comprised of career police officers with advanced training. STF is better. I have noticed that british ppl r very touchy about the SAS. Pity that the UK's armed forces are ill equiped then. The SADF has faced a properly trained and equiped army in angola and emerged victorious. Why are the british and usa killing shepards in afghanistan?
are you serious, the british army are ill equipped,we have the seccond highest defence budget in the world and being a men=meber of the light infantry in the british army myself i can tell you we are equipped with the most up to date technoligy going, big deal south africa won in angola ha ha big fucking deal.if the south africans military are so good then why do thousands of south africans join the british army,i know a few myself
dont try and tell a serving soldier about his army.
@rangers11000 well if you actually asked them why they are in the Brits army you would have realised that the SA army has gone to shit. In 1986/87 there was no better foot soldier in the world this is widely admitted by even your own goverment. Not the case anymore. I was under Col Taljard at HK20 sai in Mafikeng and we had the issue there with troops that they could not shoot for shit and joined to get a paycheck and then sat on there arses and most were untrainable but got rank over whites.
@rangers11000 and yes to "do you think these guys have ever fired a gpmg or a anti tank missile,or called in airstrikes on there missions, i doubt it" since a few of them came out of Angola war. I'm not compairing this unit to SAS I know better but don't slate the SA (angola) soldiers for if you served with them like you claim you know they are damn fine soldiers. Sniper One~ give it a read and you'll see in there even the young white SA soldiers are awsome by your own Sgt Dan Mills standerd
@rangers11000 my god you're an idiot...I was not saying that you fucking retard. I'm saying that you made SA troops out to be below par and I tell you now our Recce/Battalion 32 program was on par with Seals(if not better as you can find clips on here where we actually taught them bush warfare) and our Koevoet police force was one of the most successfull units out there. It's run down now but some of these guys in this vid would have served there when it was awsome. Grow up Peter Pan.
Well SAS is allways SAS, one of the bes,t maybe the best. What is the indicator what shows whos the best, but this Special Task Force is one of the world most experienced units...
@KNIhokki Special Task Force is great but it is diffirent to the SBS and SAS. Im sure STF are not Arctic,Jungle but maybe Dessert warfare trained and im sure they dont go jumping out of planes at 30 000ft of diving from submarines. But then again the SAS and SBS are not getting involved in shoot outs on an hourly basis ,so be honest ive been in both forces and police and have amazing respect for both ,it is an awsome sacrifice for those men and the familys so I can be safe and warm at home.
@baloo041 You are correct, units are different but just because these have different tasks. SAS and SBS are world elite military forces, and STF is world elite in law enforcement special forces, but what makes STF different than other law enforcement special forces is that STF is also trained to conduct military special operations and has done so on many occasions...
@KNIhokki They can give the SAS CT squadron, GSG-9, GIGN, LAPD SWAT and all the other well known glory boys a serious run for their money. All the constant training in the world will never substitute for the real world in your face experience.
If the shit really went downhill and I was in the thick of it, I would rather have these guys on my side than anybody else.
@TCFan25 All the forces you named are awesome and I'm glad to have them. They make the world a better place. I would fell safe if all these guys on my side, they are all really good and elite units.
These are a Special Police Unit not Military. They can do the same work as SAS easily. They are the only police unit in the world able to parachute into situations.
If you want to go one better than Special Task Force then we start talking South African Special Forces (RECCES), in that case there is no comparison trust me :)
they dont do the same work as the sas,the sas are put into full scale battles and war zones, often going behind enemy lines alone, but they will do hostage situations if a british citizen is involved and they are the best at that,as seen on the iranian embassy seige.
Keyword in my post was "...can do..." if you read carefully. Comparing SAS and STF is apple and oranges. Which is why I said for Military or one better you compare RECCES with SAS.
@yourass117 I know i'm replying to an old post, but the SAS is a military unit. The Special Task Force is a police unit. If you wanted to compare the SAS to a SA military unit. Then you'd do it against the SA Special Forces Brigade.
@yourass117 No they are not as good as the SAS, not even close. They are very good but the SAS are able to carry out a wider role and are more competent and more highly trained to do so. STF are a civilian operation, paramilitary for sure, but not to SAS standards. They are probably far better than most SWAT or even the FBI's HRT. SAS are the world's best, period..
@baloo041 What and the STF do?! They are a response unit primarily. Sure, they carry out surveillance of high risk targets but in the main they step in when the local police can't handle a situation or have information of an impending armed robbery/kidnapping. They don't investigate crimes per se. They don't source their own information to any real extent. They are the weapon of the state police and provide a function but they also rely on getting their intelligence from other police branches.
@carterupm but if you have been in the forces or the police you would know they are totally diffirent, you might as well throw the fire service in for comment .Trust me they are all well trained police ,and if you had an idea of bad intelligence and police work, you would know they do their own investigations then hand the evidence of their own arrests back to CID who then add it to other evidence send it to the Prosecution service who will either take it to court or drop the case .
No see like the other guy said. This isn't that long after apartheid and today though the units like this are probably much more racially diverse. Most of these guys in the video like he says are probably making $200k per year guardian people in warzones or even working in the massive private security industry within South Africa now that has grown due to horrible crime rates.
let me ask this. how come the overwhelming majority of the task force is white and you see only one black person if none at all. blacks are 33 million of south africa. whites or afrikaners are only 5 million. what the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

@MudHut67 I dont know much about STF... Only heard and read what they have done recent years, hostage situation in restaurant in Long Street, central Cape Town, 2007. and Kempton Park 2010, Bainsvlei 2009 where STF killed two suspects...
@bank4fun this is a while ago and as soon as the whites pulled out to use the operational experience they've gathered from army special units in Iraq/Afghan it went to pot like most "all/majority black units with exception to Bat 32 who was masters of warfare but are now persecuted by the black gov. Haven't you heard SA is a hell hole now?

Very stupid question ! Why dont you watch episode 1 while they doing the "vasbyt" training stage
They are completly open to any race ! & forces in SA have always been that way !
You cannot force black people to do a job, just because they black LOL
Some of the best SADF units in SA were 30 blacks to 1 white. If they showed these things on tv it would expose the lies about apartheid !

Unfortunately the temptation to do crime overwhelms alot of blacks in SA & crime pays a hell of alot better than a job, just look at the Government !
