  • I'm not usually into games footage and CGI etc, but this works powerfully thank you

  • thank you. for not letting us forget what war truly does. thank you for helping us remember the fallen warriors and soldiers.

  • "... Or Willie McBride was it slow and obscene...."

This game is obscene and so is the video. Combining it with this song is worse than obscene!

  • i stilll think the guy who made the video failed hard :P

  • Songs about how pointless war is nothing else...its a waste of human life, resources etc! Not taking anything away from those who have laid their lifes down for their country, whether they be Scottish, English, Irish, German, Russian, American, Canadian and so many more! Also, not saying that fighting Hitler/Taliban is wrong cause we should have/be that's my opinion! RIP all those who have died and those 'Unknown unto God' P.S. song was written by a Scot about an Irish Soldier!

  • WHATS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?? ON EVRY VIDEO I GO I SEE ARGUING!! CAN YOU JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP AND ENJOY MUSIC?? -.-

sorry if its bad english :)

  • mir kommen immer die tränen bei diesem lied...

R.I.P to all this warriour !

  • Well made video with a beautiful soundtrack. And although the song was originally about World War 1, I do not think I am the only one who thinks it fits regardless of the conflict. Rememberence Day is not only about remembering those who died in the Great War, but those who have laid down their lives in all wars (I mean, from a British point of view)

"The killing and dying it was all done in vain

Oh Willy McBride it all happened again

And again, and again, and again, and again"

  • why is all the video from black ops when this song is about ww1? my mind is full of fuck

  • @ichigoanderson are you a moron? none of that is from black ops... its all from world at war, but theres a little from some other non-cod game... way to go

  • @ichigoanderson

how can there be Black Ops clips in 2009? my mind is full of fuck

  • it´s bloody sarcastic to use a Game of the WW2 to make a video against War is it?

  • @Workingtitle01 yes it is. this song is for the fallen. R.I.P. brave men

  • @Workingtitle01 Read macgradytheirishman's post on the top.

  • I don't understand how this video can have many dislikes... Beside the fact that the game's about WW2, the guy did an awesome job with it... All images fit perfectly, the message is well felt and filters are used marvelously... Gratz man :)

  • i think its a very mastered done song the only part i dont like so much the one youre shooting with a mp .it looks to much like a shooting game(wich its from) and to less like the other move scenes(wich are from shooting games too btw.)

so but everything it looks very good =)

  • too fukin calm..........

  • i dont even think he can see

  • @thegoodlifeonlybettr well... tx. though i bet it's common knowledge

  • if not 4 ww1, hitler wouldn't hav com along, nd then no ww2

  • @DOWrocksify you're a genius. if not for me being born i would not have come along and been able to comment on this amazingly intelligent comment. derp deh derp deh doo.

  • World at war was based in world war two. The song talks about ww1.

  • @thundermagev12 get a life

  • The video is very unfitting. This isn't a fighting song-It's supposed to be sad.

  • I like the video but come on COD!

  • Always brings a tear to my eye. Sadly, I think war is an inevitability in the world at the moment - inevitable but futile.

  • dispite what all you little pricks say i think we can all agree this is just a good FU@#!^# song

  • a seer telt me that i wouldnt know but ask yir mother she knows. her unkle watched his brother dying. why the fuck

  • Great work, really good video for the music

  • this song is the best song ever ♥ the vidio is good :)

  • To all ppl discussing WW1/WW2 and different countries:

I believe 0blivi0u5kid put in these war scenes to give a boost to the song, and NOT to give a serious political statement. My opinion is that this is quite masterfully done, compared to a lot of other music videos I've seen on youtube, and this movie doesn't deserve all the dislikes it has got. This isn't about cold facts, it's about what goes trough your mind when you see these pictures and hear this song. I give my most humble regards.

  • Want to sell french army rifle. Never shot only dropped once

  • I dissliked this because there is no point in having this WW2 and non-british

  • this song is a truibit to all fallen brothers irish soctish british german or american it is mostly for the first world war a war to end all wars because it had all belifes all backgrounds and races and it was a very brutal war because of the prooganda and the tec backthen like the canvas planes the gases and mostly the trenches a good alterly shel can wipe out almost a dozen men and then the aftermathe of building back up that was harder then the political side

  • To everyone in this upsetting conversation.

I think the majority of you are missing the point of this song. This song says nothing about either side being right or wrong in the war, nor does it say anything about freedom. Its song morning the devastation WW1 had on the entire world. The song writer isn't making a statement on for what we should fight for, it's a song remembering the fallen. Aside from the English/Irish cultural references, this song could be sung by a German or Jew.

  • @mcgradytheirishman Someone who speaks sense. At least I'm not the only one who knows the point of the song and although I didn't personally know anyone who died in the war, which makes it hard to empathise for I have no idea how hard it is for other people, I still moarn the loss of others and support the families who have lost.

  • @mcgradytheirishman

I totally agree with your statement.

  • @mcgradytheirishman I totaly agree. It's a great song about the suffering and loss that war brings to everyone. While war may at times be a nessasary evil, I don't think anyone likes it.

  • @mcgradytheirishman

And yes, we germans sing that song too, of course not that beautiful (the accent is awesome), but 3 of our best songwriter did it 2003, against the iraq-war with hundreds of thousands of people listening.

We won't forget you. Never again war.

  • @mcgradytheirishman

There is an actual German adaption of the song called "Es ist an der Zeit" which points out the anti-war motive even a bit more. I've known it by heart since I was a child and only discovered the original song a few years ago. I'm certain there are translations to other languages as well.

  • the video is abaut 2ww and the song told about 1ww!!!

  • THE OBJECTive of war is not to die but make the other poor bastard die for his country

    -George Patton

  • This game is Call Of Duty World At War and that is from World War II.

I have now declared for everyone who hasn't typed the name of the game right or didn't knew it... But the real name is Call Of Duty World At War... and this scene in this movie is from the war between the Americans and the Japanese, after Pearl Harbor broke up, when Japanese still where allied with Germany and Italy.

Do not disrespect this because there were many millions who lost their life just for saving some Jude <3

  • I love this song.

  • 2:02 dempsy?

  • isnt Call of duty WW2... this is WW1 1916 erra

  • Well theres two problems with this video

    its not in WW1

and You don't play as a British soldier

  • @Haloister Dude, the important in this song ain't the video! The good and touching in this song is the text! Dude, if you only care about the video you should go suck some cock!

  • @kawerses no you misunderstand I love the song tears in my eyes every time but I was simply pointing out a flaw so can you calm down.

  • @Haloister Well thousands of Russdians and Americans died in WWI too, and the meaning of the song can be appleid to any war.

  • @TheWaarivzrach you mean few milion russians and few thousands of americans

  • @Haloister Well even though World at War is a WWII game the songs message is the same for all wars.

  • @Haloister Otherwise still very good.

  • @plotkin514 Different causes.

  • well i love the song but this video game takes place in WW2 the song speaks of someone who died durring WW1.

  • on top of being just contradictory for many reasons, watching fast paced call of duty action doesn't fit the green fields of france.

  • WW1 was less nesscecry then WW2. WW2 was to stop an evil man from conquring the planet. WW1 was more of land.

  • This song is about WW1.....yet the comments say "remebe those who died in ww2" jesus kids today dont even know which world war theyre remebering

    i facepalm for humanity

  • um can i just point out this song is about ww1 not ww2

  • God Bless all the fallen soldiers and all the active soldiers

  • I hear this and think of my brothers, overseas, Sometimes i cry, sometimes i tell myself they are ok... but then i think of all those families who've ever lost someone to the dark hand of war. From the times of the Romans to the British Empire to WWII, may God rest they're brave souls.

  • Dang it. To all Germans, Americans, British, French, Kiwis and everyone else here. Stop dissing each other. WW2 is over, were all on the same side now and we have had 2 new enemies since WW2. Russians and Terrorists.

The War is over, lets not dwell on it and put it behind us.

  • Dang it. To all Germans, Americans, British, French, Kiwis and everyone else here. Stop dissing each other. WW2 is over, were all on the same side now and we have had 2 new enemies since WW2. Russians and Terrorists.

  • @e0o9kii

Do we really need any more enemys? What is an "eneny"? Isn´t it a human beeing behind the Uniform? Since the 90`s we dont even have Russia for an enemy, we fly the flag of fighting terrorism and dispossessing dictators but in fact we only try to correct former failures,... so stop discussing about which war has been ment wars are equal to each other since the early days of mankind,...

I think we should hate the war but honor the Soldiers, they die for our political parameters,...

  • What a song and the dropkicks made it even better

  • RIP RIP RIP

  • how many have you ever seen in ww1?

  • I know its specifically about WWI but I think it could be applied to other wars too....there was a line later in the song that said it all happened again and again and again and again.

  • That game looks like it kicks ass. I might tackle my own version of a video to this unbelievably touching and powerful song. There are multitudes of great WWI pictures out there.

  • i love this song but i dont like how you used world at war to make the video. however this song is speaking of the tragedies of war and the turmoil it causes while these war based video games only glamorize this especialy when kids play it, it makes me mad to see how much theses video games give kids the idea violence and guns are cool and they dont realize in real life theres no start over war isn't pretty thats all i want people to realize and no matter whose side your on everyone suffers.

  • why did i sell world at war

  • wrong war dumbass

  • @nirvanadropkicks Did you read his comments? Really? Good Lord... He knows. Jesus read before you comment.

  • @Prrzipiep so you don't respect the 50 MILLION dead or so soldiers who died in WW 2 fighting against the Nazi war machine in europe and agains the "Empire" of Japan? you don't respect them for the fact they FOUGHT AND DIED FOR YOUR FREEDOM. you nare very ungrateful, if it weren't for those dead we would probably be speaking german, unless ofcourse you're german

  • @Joypadjunkginger I AM German and I would say both sides of all wars are loosers. It´s not always one side that strikes (in case of WW2 of course it was Gemany´s mistake). but sometimes even your "good" Nation USA is actually bad, believe it or not. War is never a good thing, neither wars against terrorism, nor wars against nations. They always cause blood and pain and all bad things so I´d suggest to stop all wars and get rid of all military organisations.

  • @moinsimion I hate America, no offence to you Americans out there, they have successfully capitalised wars, Fighting wars for money or oil is morally wrong in every way, sometimes though it's wrong, war is justified, but the latest wars America has been fighting, the ones in the middle east, and even further back the one in vietnam were all over money, WW1 was a mistake on all countries parts but WW2 was a neccessary war, to stop an evil man from conquaring the planet.

  • @Joypadjunkginger that's basically what I said, I don't "hate" americans, I just don't like the politics of that country

  • @Joypadjunkginger And what would be wrong with speaking German? It's better than having Jews run the world and flood every white country with mud people. Fuck the Niggers, Spics and Kikes! They fought for our oppressors, not for our freedom. We can still take back our homelands. White power!

  • @kevinwalsh1619 Shut up you moron. Jews are nice people and so are different coloured people. If you were oppressed would you fight for your oppressor? You need to shut up, and realise that colour changes nothing.

  • @PROkiller16 Those who deny racial differences are the liars and morons. Jews are sleazy parasites who are destroying the white race with immigration, and too many whites are stupid enough to support it.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 So you believe it is right to presecute someone because of their heritage or relgion? And you noticed that the majority of Jewish are white? So how white people can be destorying white people is just damn right moronic.

  • @PROkiller16 Jews are a Turko-Tatar people. They are light skinned but not white. I believe Aryans have the right and duty to protect ourselves against people who for thousands of years have repeatedly proved themselves to be our mortal enemies. For whites to allow Jews to run our countries is suicidal.

  • @PROkiller16 Jews are a Turko-Tatar people. They are light skinned, not white. I believe the white nationalities have the right to defend their nations against people who have repeatedly demonstrated over the centuries that theya re enemies of those nations.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 By any chance are you a Christian?

  • @PROkiller16 No, I'm an atheist. Unlike Christians, I don't believe in loving my enemies. That's just not rational.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 So you believe that you should not respect a worth enemy? That isn't Christians that is the rules of war, even if an enemy is injuried in a hospital does not give reason to kill them because they are your people.

  • @PROkiller16 I don't care about rules of war. Those were invented by fools. Jews are not worthy of anything but extermination. They are a race of parasites.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 Going against them is illegal and a war crime. How about you go up to any Allied soldier and say "You should of let the Germans kill the Jewish." You will be punched in the face.

  • @PROkiller16 The Germans did not kill the Jewish. They should have done so, but they only put them in labour camps. The Holocaust is anti-German racism dressed up as history. NAZI gassings never happened. We must not be as mild or as tolerant as the Germans were when facing this menace.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 So all the labour camps with gas chambers were just a ruse? Yeah and don't forget the people who lost their family by being gassed, they're commited to the lie. Hitler was an idiot who believe the most bullshit conspircy theory ever. Next you'll be telling me 11/9 was the Jews and so is Global Warming.

  • @PROkiller16 None of the labour camps had homicidal gas chambers. The only gas chambers there were for delousing clothing. Since lice spread typhus, the gas chambers actually saved many Jewish lives. 11/9 was not of Jewish origin. It was a justified attack on capitalism and imperialism. Global warming is partly true but not a major threat. The major threat is using global warming as an excuse to cripple industry in white countries.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 Yeah, just just happen to kill people as well. And how is Global Arming crippling white infustry? It's the same with China and most developing countires are being payed to not produce pollution.

  • @PROkiller16 There will be a double standard. China will keep doing it, and Europe and North America will cripple industry. Global warming will just be the excuse for the multinationals to turn to more cheap labour. It's idiotic to pay not to pollute.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 Actually considering that developing countries will make pollution so paying them to not make the pollution makes sense. I believe we do it with some African countries.

  • @PROkiller16 No, it makes sense to keep money for our own use and let them pollute. Pollution will happen either way. It's just an excuse to cut off our industry.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 No it isn't. We're making up for what they be losing if we let them pollute, this is not stopping our industry.

  • @PROkiller16

That's a lie. It's a Jewish scam like the Holocaust and affirmative action. They'll keep polluting, and white people will keep paying, and white industry will be crippled.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 So the Jewish, who I believe are not in power of any countries which actually thought of this are making countries pay and crippling their industry? Where is the evidence?

  • @PROkiller16 The burden of proof is theirs, not mine. They can't prove a need to pay to not pollute, so we shouldn't do it.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 Well you pay like it or not. That is what taxes are.

  • @kevinwalsh1619 i once meet someone like you, convinced the holocaust was just a Jewish conspiracy and comepletely blind to any other possibilities ^^ the conversation with him was... one sided and boring

  • @Joypadjunkginger How very fucking dare you criticize the Germans. After WW1 you took their freedom and put their country into poverty allowing Hitler to rise and brainwash a generation. A lot of the German soldiers were not fighting for Nazi's but for their country. They are included in the 50 million. Britains hands weren't clean in WW2.

  • @StaXDesigns not saying they were, WW2 was a series of war crimes and acts of evil. From the Holocaust to the very final bomb to be dropped on nagasaki. everyone involved in ww1 is to blame to some degree for ww2, but noone ever spoke up against Hitler or said it was wrong, noone thought to stop him, not the Germans and not the allied forces, in the end everyone was just too slow too act and we had a part of history that everyone wishes never happened.

  • @StaXDesigns i'm sorry if i offended you, The Germans weren't solely to blame, i am studying history so i know that, Britain and America and FRance are just as much to blame for Hitlers rise to power as the people of Germany. WW2 was a tragedy on a massive scale, if we'd been a bit more lenient in our punishments for Germany there would've been no need for the biggest conflict in human history

  • @Joypadjunkginger Well said I'm glad you already know that, but I was also referring to King Edward who supported Hitler. And the BUF and the support they had, I believe if Britain suffered a larger depression any party could have risen to power as in Germany.

  • @Joypadjunkginger Worldwide total of military dead ranging from about 22.6 million to about 25.5 million, and that's on both sides.

  • @Joypadjunkginger Whats bad of speaking german? Do you have anything against Germany?

    Where are you from?

  • @nostalji75 nothing is wrong with speaking german as long as you learn it, my point was that you'd be speaking german because Hitler conquared teh planet and forced everyone to learn it

  • @Joypadjunkginger ok. I think if Hitler conquered the planet speaking german would be the least important of your problems^^

Still id like to know where are you from?

@ Prrzipiep You don`t sacrifice anything to symbols you sacrifice to the things the symbols stand for ;)

  • @Joypadjunkginger great comment until the "you're german"-part, such an american to say

  • @JesperFTW that's where your wrong, i'm not American ^^ i'm just saying if it weren't for soldiers then you'd be speaking german instead of english, unless ofcourse you live in germany, in which case you'd speak german either way so it doesn't matter

  • @Joypadjunkginger Freedom? FREEDOM? Post WWII Europe was hardly that. Go say Hey! Did you enjoy your freedom under the USSR to any pole. And whats so bad about speaking German? Bastard.

  • @Bmanstudios101 did i ever say it was bad to speak german? no i just simply said that you'd be speaking german unless ofcourse you hapen to already be german, i never said it was bad nor did i insult you or anyone else in anyway. and sure it took 20 maybe 30 years before real freedom was present in europe, but the fact still remains that those soldiers died fighting for it

  • @Joypadjunkginger lols... this is about world war one ya dunce... hope you learn your history. Nazi's are bad but that is not what this is about

  • @SurgicalSid he was reffering to all soldiers who ahd ever fougth in wars, i wasn't talking about the song just his comment, which is extremely offensive to the families of dead soldiers, and also to all soldiers who died not just in World war 1 but in world war 2 also, and all other wars

  • a good song, but i hate the fact that you used call of duty, it glorifies war and makes it seem harmless and fun, even though it isn't, War is hell, Call of duty is war glorified to the point of stupidity.

  • @Joypadjunkginger War is a human thing, it's not a good human thing, but it is what makes us human. Yeah it is VERY VERY bad, but still we learn and we actually gain from it. And dying and killing cant be glorified, especially by a gaming company.

  • @deltaenergyefficient War is what makes us human, i have to agree with you on that, and we definately learn from war, but still, at the end of the day was the cost really worth that lesson? and is what we gain worth what we put in?

  • @Joypadjunkginger it definitly depends on what war. but only a few wars were pointless

  • @deltaenergyefficient world war 1, vietnam, any and every religous war, to name just a few

  • @Joypadjunkginger Vietnam was to stop the spread of commuinism from communist North Vietnam to the democratic South Vietnam. It was necessary. World War One was to stop the Kaiser from taking over Europe, I also tend to think that is important. And the religious ones, they are no different from the others, people standing up for what they believe in and protecting it.

  • @deltaenergyefficient religous wars tend to end up with mass murders and genocides, if everyone was able ot just leave each other to believe what they want to believe and not try and force it on others there would be no need, as for what you said about vietnam, it was just America trying to force their policies on others who didn't want to hear about it, as for WW1, you're wrong, it wasn't to stop the Kaiser taking EUrope, it was because of an unfortunate series of events starting with the death

  • @deltaenergyefficient of Archduke franz ferdinand because the astro hungarian empire was oppressing many countries,

  • @Joypadjunkginger that's a huge overgeneralization so please just don't talk about it.

  • @normthegenie admittedly, there were many other reasons, such as Germany's want to over take England in naval power and also the various politics, pacts and diplomacys involved, but generally it is assumed that the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand is the reason for the conflict.

  • @Joypadjunkginger there is no greater glory than dieing for your country.

  • @Joypadjunkginger war is glory and if i die in one i will die with a smile on my face knowing that i fought for a just cause.

  • @monkEalvord how do you know your cause is just? is your enemies cause any less just? it's only a matter of opinion.

  • @Joypadjunkginger I know my cause will be just because I'm an American and America is a Christian nation with Christian values and if there is any reason that I should not fight in a war than i will not.

  • @monkEalvord so because you're christian, your cause is right and just? what about muslims?, they believe the exact same thing about themselves, and so do Hindus, and Jews. Fighting over religion is not a just cause, it's forcing your opinion and beliefs on someone else, that's slavery, i thought you were supposed to be the land of the free?

  • @Joypadjunkginger look i'll follow my God and you follow what ever the hell you belive in I wash my hands of you.

  • @monkEalvord i believe in common descency of people, i believe that all people are born equal, and remain equal throughout their lives nevermind religion or wealth or education or race, I believe in common sense and thinking before fighting. Is that really so wrong?

  • @Joypadjunkginger Sorta like what all the kids who signed up to fight the second great war thought.. ;3 War will always be over-glorified. Hell, kings in Europe used to go about it like a game. There were spectators during the American Civil War. Call of Duty's fun, and I don't think anyone really wants to play a game that portrays real war.. I know I wouldn't.

  • people die. because of wars. with all the immigrants and foreigners i could have been 90 % (for example) russians and chinese that ran up that shore on doomsday.

it was a german man that actually ended the war. because they used a german mans (einstein) nukes to blow up japan and end the war.

the point is. you don´t know who fought. ''AN AMERICAN'' well... that american could have been a norweigan immigrant.

the cause of the war was not from germany. actually from austria.

  • @JoeRingo118 i don't think you quite know what you're talking about.

D-day is Die day not Dooms day

it couldn't of been russians as they were already at war with germany fighting them over in russia

couldn't of been chinese because china was under military occupation by Japan during WW 2

Einstein DID NOT build the nuke, he just made the technology behind it

and Austria caused WW 1 but WW 2 was Germany who invaded Poland, breaking the treaty of versailles

  • @Joypadjunkginger

well it could have been a bunch of russians that escaped from russia (because of the soviet)

and they went to war together with the americans.

if einstein didn´t exist then two cities in japan would still exist.

chinese could also have escaped to usa.

btw. thanks for the D-day infortmation.

i may have said it wrong.

  • But god bless Wilson and America for at least seeing that it was too harsh and trying to compromise. I am an American patriot so don't accuse me of hating on all of you, I'm simply defending my German ancestors from idiot accusations made by people who didn't pay attention in school.

  • By the way, for all you German haters, we didn't start WWI. Austria-Hungary and Serbia had a dispute over an assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Then, the alliance system took effect and the various countries went to war. And while we did literally start WWII, it was still the Allies's fault. If they hadn't been so harsh in the Treaty of Versailles then Hitler would have never had the influence to take over Germany. Learn your history.

  • @jonjon6145 Tit for Tat

  • Comment removed

  • why does ireland not show respect for those whom died in the great war

  • @stuart7034 how do you mean? this song who was originally written by an irish man if i'm not mistaken shows great respect to those who died. if you think otherwise then that is your observation.

  • @stuart7034 About 210,000 Irish people fought in it. They were not allowed their own army and there weren't many jobs so it was the Army or poverty.

  • i really like this song. I don't know why but i cant get it out of my head at all.

  • a world war 1 video game would be really lame. You would just sit in a trench and suffocate from gasses

  • Facepalm for those morons who cant read, THE AUTHOR OF THE VIDEO WROTE:

The song is the Green Fields Of France (as done by The Dropkick Murphy's)....On a side note.I am completely aware that the song is about WW1 and the game takes place in WW2....I was aware of that when I made the video.

Please, before you comment LEARN THE FUCK TO READ!

  • FAIL

this song is about world war one in france and you have scenes of world war 2 japan

  • amazing song does it matter what war it is from what a stupid discussion

  • Fuck war. how long will kids be sent to kill each other ?? this song is about WW1 but its also about the senseless tragedy of war in general. great video.

  • the most sadest song for the 2 world wars it makes me cry.

prayes to all those brave men who kep the war from us and ended it so we may live in peace and freedom.

    by Jacob Trebilcock

  • Great vid, except the song is about the Great War (World War I)

  • good video i guess. except the song is all about World War One not World War Two which is shown in the clips

  • The song is tragically fitting. It tells about a man who died in "the war to end all wars" while the video shows the second world war, only 20 years later.

  • i hate videos, where the americans everytime are shown as "true heroes"

  • @TheKarl32 The Americans are heroes. I am Filipino and when the Japayukis (Japan) invaded us in 1941, America was the only Allied country to liberate us. 39,000+ Filipino and American soldiers died to protect the Philippines.

Where was the English, Aussies and Canadians? English were surrendering in Singapore, Aussies were in North Africa and Canadians were somewhere else.

If not for USA, we Pinoys would still be fighting in insurgent type war against Japayukis.

  • welches spiel is das?

  • damn you don't get the song is against war and me too. I'll fight in a pub but not in a war never. You're just weird ... you've drawed the name of the Dropkick Murphys in the dirt

  • WW1 was a useless in-despicable butchery working class men were sent to the abattoir , it was so awful some of them would get gangrene from the dead on purpose in order to be amputated and go home

  • The writer is Eric Bogle. His intro to the song makes it clear that the song is about WW1. And if they were piping The Flo'rs of the Forest at his funeral Willie would have been Scots. However much anyone would like it to be about the Irish Uprising - it ain't.

  • A very sad and beautiful song. This is a real tribute to those who died in World War 1, I feel they would feel honored.

    Thank you and bless you.

  • my great great grandfather fought and died at ypres in 1915. he fought for home rule for ireland like so many irishmen. pearse could have done with such men in 1916. eirin go brea

  • @Legionairius807 its not about the irish uprising

  • @driftingbosco its not directly about the irish rebellion but the name macbride is scottish and irish! the flowers of the forest is a scottish song commerorating the battle of flodden field! my point is that while thousands of irishmen died in france, they did so to win home rule for ireland. it was a pity because we could have done with such men back home in 1916

  • @Legionairius807 wow that is stretching it. I mean the full description of WWI and Flowers of the Forest and 1916 and he has "Mc" in the beginning of his last name...it HAS to be about the uprising in Dublin. France, The Great Fallon, Trenches, Gas, No Mans land, countless white crosses, the an entire generation butchered and damned (the lost generation), war that would end wars, and again (WWII) and again (asia) and again (middle east) and again (balkans)? yup definitely the dublin rebellion...
