At this time, Gene and Paul weren't getting along so well. Bruce played Bass on all of Paul's Songs. And Bruce played rythm guitar on all of Genes songs. So Bruce really worked his ass of on this album.
Actually, Gene is a damn good bass player when he applies himself. of course he isnt as good as Harris or Lee but no one else is either. If you want to talk about someone who sucks then talk about Nikki Sixx. He admitted to being nothing more than an entertainer. It wasnt Gene who said that. Nikki didnt even know how to play the first time He went in the studio. They had to bring someone in to teach him and He still coudnt do it.
huge KISS fan here - absolutely the best song off a CD that tried WAY too hard to be what was "in" in 1994-1995...KISS is not a grunge band, and while I like this song, this style of music was way beneath them.
Great album. But in honesty, this album was produced with much too emphasis on Gene's bass playing. Not that Gene sucks as a bass player, but he cannot hold a candle to Steve Harris, John Entwhistle, or Geddy Lee as examples.
@obladiletitbe998 lol probably wasnt't even simmons playing...probably had a studio musician fill in while he was off trying to sell some Kiss merchandise/merchandising, or off trying to promote his cheese dick egotistical reality piece of shit show.
You are probably right about those bassists being better than Gene Simmonos. It's just too bad that the bands they were in are very inferior to KISS. Rush can't hold a candle to KISS in any dimension you could ever think of. I love the Who and I have nothing but good things to say about Entwhistle. Steve Harris? Iron Maiden is okay for the kind of music they play but they blow compared to KISS so Gene rocks Harris' ass off, IMO. No comparison there.
@evilunixuser1 Pretty much Bruce did alot of the bass work on this album. Gene had very little to do with thus record. And Gene has come straight out to say he isn't a good bass player and that he's just an entertainer. LOL
None the less this is one of my very KISS records.

KISS's most underrated albums are all incredible: COS, COTN, The Elder. Masterpieces, every one of them.

Great album, but too much focus on Gene thinking he can play bass. Albeit, he plays a good riff, but he is no Steve Harris, or John Entwhistle.

That high D (D5) at 3:37 is just mindblowing. Really good song too, KISS going grunge!

This kicks some ass. Seventies balls-out rock taking on some grimy nineties sound. And that is one hell of a scream from mister Stanley.

@evilunixuser1 There was emphasis on Gene's bass because there is much emphasis on bass in grunge, which was the sound they were going for.
