  • Bonjour, vous aimez les sixties ? écoutez et podcastez mon émission "le super son des 60's" sur le site de plumfm. You like the 60's ? please, listen and podcast my broadcast "le super son des 60's", connect to "plumfm". Salut et faites gaffe au rock and roll.

  • What a cool song! First time I've heard Sharon Tandy, and I can say she is an amazing singer, and so are the backing singers. And I love the heavy guitar riffs and drumming in the backing group.

Prior to watching this vid, the recording I've always heard of this song was a cover version performed by The Ace Kefford Stand from 1968; their version is good as well, and I knew they were covering the song, but I didn't know who originally sang it, so I'm glad to find this original.

  • Some great female vocalists here.

  • great song

  • what a great thing.

    rock on cosmic soul sisters

  • Great tune man! Sharon's biggest hit in her (and my) native South Africa was a cover of Mouth & MacNeal's "Hello-A" in 1972, which was a duet performed with SA pop star Billy Forrest.

She was born "Sharon Finkelstein" for fans who didn't already know!

  • I've never heard of these names before! I got me a whole lot of learning to do.

  • What a Very Cool Song! I'm a daughter of the sun & also a moonchild..so that I guess that makes me sister of the moon..lol..but I"m missing my broomstick..ahahaha...5*s Love this one! Thanks Gary & funknroll...Anita

  • Give us a crescent shaped smi(e then ;)

  • lol...ok :)

  • That Was Great Thanks Gary You Always Hit The Spot!

  • this always be always a 'ear-treat' for me's!! ahh 'fluer de lys' best ever band from southampton~*

  • A friend of mine here shared this with me & Luv it, of Course Jaybird KNew of this Melody already =D

  • So Are you a 'Daughter of the Sun' ? ?

  • Sister of The Moon! We're all children of the Sun..aren't We?

  • In my eyes WHY YES!!

  • Yeah see I'm just missing the Broomstick Natural witches don't need 'em LOl

  • I like it. Wish I had heard it way back when I thought Janis Ian was daring and rebellious!

  • i fucking love this song and i cant find it anywhere

  • check out a band called The Fleur de Lys, there's a greatest hits CD called Reflections that is available with this track. Fleur de Lys played the backing on this track

  • Fleur de Lys also featured singer/songwriter Gordon Haskell on bass who had a UK xmas hit couple of years back with "How Wonderful You Are" and who finally got some much deserved recognition and financial reward.

  • a mention of peggy jones (that is NOT ms. lipton, hee hee...) and the dutchess... YES! finally the ladies of didley get recognized. when i first saw her i had so much more respect for mr. mc daniel (RIP). niceness... i'm not the biggest fan of a lot of 'psychadelic' rock music, or the runaways and such. but you get major respect for charting the histories...

  • Suzie Quatro meets prog rock. Cool!

  • more music like this!

  • Methinks she doth protesteth too much.

  • For the record, there's a mis-spelling at 1:05. It's "Sandie" Shaw.

  • fuk this is goooooood

  • Great, but you have missed out one very crucial lady from that period and also largely forgotten because she died so young, The wonderful Miss Judee Sill. If you don't know her, look her up,she may be the best thing you've never heard :-)

  • No dishonour was intended. Sharon Tandy was in about sixteen different singer/composers of the photos shown in I am the Daughter of the Sun video. She has a Royal dna gene that is why she says she is the "daughter" of a political world power. Her mirror "racks from side to side"..not exactly multiple personas but yeah. There are a hundred more or so. "All the other children run & hide"...she concentrates on only one persona at a time. Thus, Eurovision 1970, she presented abut seven personas Mary

  • Coolio! But, you're missing Ann & Nancy from Heart....could've at least put an early Heart shot in there. ;)

  • Check out the 'women of 70's Rock' sequel video, "The Runaways -Queens of Noise".

  • Gracias! :0) Another cool homage to women in ROCK! :)

  • Heart were 70s. This is a tribute to 60s gals.

  • sharon tandy and ruperts people

  • Please please, could ya make a slide show

to HOLD ON (as the original sadly was removed). THANKS

  • Black Sabbath meets Nancy Sinatra

  • Good stuff- I'm impressed

  • Everything S-TANDY is welcome,Hold-on to it.

  • Thanx for sharing!

  • Really cool!

  • Great you included the much underated MERRY CLAYTON, but gotta say you have to add LAURA NYRO, NONA HENDRYX, ESSRA MOHAWK, TRACY NELSON, BETTYE LaVETTE, GLORIA JONES, DIANE KOLBY, DIANNE DAVIDSON, LYDIA PENSE, BONNIE BRAMLETT, VALERIE CARTER, LINDA RONSTADT...........etc.etc.

  • It's true; this one hits the basics for Rock and Soul greats. Some of your mentions are in other vids, like "Runaways -Queens fo Noise", while others will be in upcoming Soul overviews. Thanks to all of you for the input!

  • Cool Compilation. My only critisism is that you left out Laura Nyro, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Melanie, Patti Labelle & The Bluebells, Patty Waters, Sandy Denny and Petula Clarke. I guess Bobbie Gentry And Dolly Parton are considered Country, right?

  • The song "Courtyard" by Bobbie Gentry is one of my all time favorites. Sort of in the "Pet Sounds" realm of melodic pop.

  • Hear, Hear. Someone else mentioned Bobbie Gentry as possibly being too "Country" for this list but firstly, she never considered herself a country artist - always quoting blues and jazz as her primary influences and secondly, her role in defining the modern female artist (writer-producer-arranger) is undeniable. Apart from that, this compilation is great.

  • Thank you.

  • Buen video felicitaciones

  • Wow this song reminds me of early Creem and Black Sabbath! (the guitar most definetely). I've never heard of Sharon Tandy, why wasn't she famous? She should be, what an awesome song!

  • great great great ; girl (group) power forever, next time add pre- beat teenage QUEENS: leslie Gore, Annette, Connie Francis, Brenda L ee, a.o. not forgetting countless groups. Great graphics!! Thanks from johnny herring Holland.

  • wow!

  • 3:36 the GTO'S!!!! Hell Yes! Thanks for this, it's tottally...Groovy.

  • Les fleur de lys anyone? Good show!
