Nice job, man. This duet version you made is amazing. I don't like comparisons (like Metallica X Megadeth, for example), but just to leave my opinion, Tim Owens is perhaps now the best living metal singer in the world (R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio), and I have a deep respect for his work with Judas Priest and Iced Earth and again for his solo career. But Matt Barlow is THE VOICE of Iced Earth, he sounds like a titan, and for Iced Earth in particular, I prefer him.
dude u did something really cool weith this song good job bro cant wait to see what else u do imagine hearing matt barlow and tim owens hitting the high notes at once? that would be cool too
they really shouldve kept both singers and had them duet on all songs. and then write the new songs specifically for two singers. how AWESOME would that be??
Those two versions are played in different keys. Schaffer recorded the Ripper version with baritone guitars, which altered the key of the song, thus changing the pitch of the vocals as well. The result would probably be very peculiar sounding, but very interesting indeed :D. Btw, GREAT job with the mixing of this song! I love it! Keep up the good work!
a Baritone guitar just has a longer scale length - it won't "alter" the tone, it just affects how the instruments holds slack for lower tunings. The tunings Schaffer uses more often than not are a half step down, Eb and a full step down, D, neither of which are enough to warrant the absolute NEED for a baritone guitar.
For instance, if you look at Schecter 7 strings, they use a 26.5 scale length, where most 7 strings use the standard 25.5, which happens to be the same as a standard 6 string, but you won't notice a "tonal" difference, but the feel will be altered. It helps with the slack of the low B. So, if these were recorded in different keys the vocals would clash. A scale is a scale, the patterns sung are nearly identical, the chorus didn't change; changing the key = differnt scale = nails on chalkboard
Rippers like a little boy, Matt sounds like a man. Hits the same notes sounding better.

wtf at Barlow's hair in the fourth picture (2:35). It must've taken him FOREVER to grow his hair that long.

Wonderful. Now if they'd just do something like this for reals!

They sound excellent simultaneously. Is Tim sticking with Iced Earth even though Barlow is back?
