People can say negative things about him all they want, but I truly believe that they listen to him and just get jealous, and that's where the negativity comes from. This guy had more charisma in his little finger than any star today. It is amusing to listen to Michael Jackson fans compare them. LOL, THE ONE AND ONLY KING!
Well it depends how you measure something like that. Elvis recorded over 700 songs in 23 years and this song was among the first 30 or so within the first two years.
In da werds of Jet93 : "there 2 kind of people in dis world, those who like the beatles, and those who like elvis. now, u can like em both, ats aw right, but you gotta like one more than the other. well, i sez......fu%$ the beatles, and long live elvis!!!"
@hardcore4republican - That's not quite true. I was born in 1954 and according to my mother, who loved Elvis' music, this is the man and this is the song that sparked my obsession with the music of the mid-50's and early 60's. This song was released in 1956. I was 2 years old. My mother said that when she played this song, I would stop whatever I was doing and groove to the music. Elvis is the man.
The songs that elvis covered influenced him, and those songs lead us to find out and discover the original inspiration for his music. so while he might not have been a song writer, he bridged a cultural gap, brought rock n roll into a whole new light, and was probably the most influential singer/musician ever, which is a huge title to achieve and maintain, which is something he manages to do, even as a dead man. RIP.
"Without Elvis none of us could have made it." - Buddy Holly
That guy was really the greatest, coolest, funniest, and most entertaining man to ever lace a shoe! As John Fogerty said: Elvis was a huge train that shook the whole world, and when it left, the world was never the same again.

Thanks for telling us the REAL truth, remedave. Let's face it, the so-called king was a rip-off artist...He's the biggest joke of the century for those of us who KNOW our music.
Actually Jackie said that he and others took it from Elvis. I am not talking about the music, but the mannerisms. But who knows, maybe it went both ways.
I think they are similar and that it probably went both ways, but they still had their own unique little movements as well. I think they were both awesome. They were great friends too. Elvis actually paid for Jackie's medical bills after he had a stroke.
They both began their careers in like 1953/54. The thing is that artists did not see each other as much as they heard each other. Elvis could have possibly seen Jackie in a club or something in Memphis, but Jackie certainly saw Elvis on tv in '56. I also know that Elvis saw Jackie live in Vegas in late '56. He raves about it on that record the Million Dollar Quartet ...
...it is during the part with Don't Be Cruel. He was saying that Jackie's version blew his away. He was going on and on about it. Elvis performed it on Ed Sullivan in early '57 and did it the way he described Jackie doing it. So cool. But again, Jackie said he and other black artists took some stuff from Elvis. It is all cool to me. It shows respect.
Absolutely classic!!!Just like him. Whata man. Whata voice!!! Miss him sooo much!!1 Long live his music and memory!!!!

perhaps that was also a reason why he just let colonel parker take care of his career (a bad decision looking back at it)
