see what they keep forgetting is to say that YOU NEED BOTH RECYCLE AND REASONS. THEY KEEP LEAVING OUT THAT YOU NEED RECYCLE LOL . SO YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO PROGRAMS.
Do you know why Recycle (or at least my version) has a 5 minute limit for samples?
I'm into more housey/trance things and these songs are usually over 5 minutes thus if I want to keep the vocal adjusted to the measure it's pretty hard
when i put some vocals into recycle its all one and goes for 1 min 20 secs and i slide the slice button thingo it doesnt place many slices and if i keep on doing it, it makes more slices but uneven really uneven can some one help ?
I've not read the thread, but I record vocals and throw them into Wavelab, splice them up and play them through the NN19. Simples? It's Old skool and very manual but it keeps it organic. Peace.
I did the Garageband shiz and exported @ 105 bars @ 130bpm. That gave me a m4a file, I used Switch to create a wav and imported that into Recycle. I input 104 bars and it gives me 129.965 bpm!? I presume it's the conversion of the file that's screwed it up slighty?
maaaaan dawg........wtf........ patna i got reason 2.5 on ma laptop and i wanna record ovr the beats i made but im new ta dis shyt mane..... how do i get to what ur showin us in dis tutorial????? pleaz help me undadig that kuz i see wat u doin but how do i get to wat it is ur doing?????
@Taabu1990 he is 20 years old and writes like he speaks... one, go to school. two, learn english. three, be a nice bro and stop using reason. four, go and do some real shit like and work or something.
This I found no help at all, when i do this my lyrics become cut in reason and cut out early even though the tempo is right. Am gona get protools and rewire, unless anyone can help me. also rex files only play from the fist bar, reason record will record wav i have been told maybe this is a better option.
I wouldn't bother using reason for Vocals unless you really want to do the "Crazy shit" he goes on about!!! Much easier using audition, Sonar, pro tools etc....
The smaller sized files will enable you to keep sync by syncing each file individually. Keep same tempo as your original reason file . Play sample 1 then 2 then 3 then 4.. EG C then D then E then F if that is where you placed the samples Although this is a pain in the arse it does work really well and syning will not be a problem. .
If you already have a wave file (vocals) split it up into smaller portions and assign each portion to different keys on the sampler. You will have to transpose each sample to play correctly..
Great tutorial.. but no one uses Garage Band !!! Can you explain how this is done with Pro tools ? I am attempting that as I type right now... iT's not the same process... Unless i am just a ditz. lol
This works in theory, but when you try to run a sample for any long lengths of time with either sampler (NN-XT or NN-19) the sample slowly speeds up, thus yielding a vocal track that is completely out of sync with the music by the end.
ha no doubt... i'm originally from b-more... up in NY now. yo I fuck with your tutorial stuff son, still tryna learn reason myself even though I been on fl for years. Tryna do this remix in reason so i'm watching this vid again lol
No you don't have to. But you can do so much more by separating them in recycle...at least that's my opinion. there are many ways to do it and it all comes down to personal preference.
i see! so basically the point of this is to freak the vocals...using gates and such...things that would be a lot harder and less effective to setup in pro tools? do you always wind up tracking everything into protools or do you just leave the reason mix as is? i find a lot of time to go back to PT and remix eberything is a chore.
What you need to do to get vocals "real like the studios" is go to one but if you can't afford that and you have a home studio then you need 1. a good singer! 2. a good mic with a good mic pre! 3. A decent recording medium like Logic. 4. Then Record. 5. E.q. till it sounds the way you want it then add effects and compression. Thats I do to make vocals sound good! When you track anything always go dry, flat e.q, no effects, no compression nothing because the only way to change is to rerecord it!
I have put vocals into a Reason song before using pretty much what you did, but I'm glad someone has such a great straightforward presentation of it (for those of us who forget if we don't do it often). The good tips throughout are much appreciated.
an easy way to do that wil be.. recording the audio, export it as aiff and then trigger it with reddrum.. no rewire is needed.. but of course, you'll miss all the advantages of reason.
it works with anything you can record vocals in.... you could record with windows recorder then save that as a wav file n open it up in recycle although the quality wouldn't be all that great you can still do it with anything that has a recording feature
Once you get the vocals into Reason using a Dr. Rex or any of the other tools you will never turn back. I have now permanently removed Pro Tools and Logic Audio from my life.
people forget that sampleing was the way to go before digtal audio god for those people that complain about using reason for vocals is serously missing out on creative possiblities
Hey Dude i was just wandering how you managed to seperate the vocals and the beat... Beacuase i would like to be able to put vocals into reason and remix the song.

hey, might be too long since you posted and figured it out by now, but he recorded the vocals and beat separately, he didn't rip the vocals from an existing song. there are various things that supposedly can do that but most won't do it very well, you really have to get the 12" of the song in question and use the a capella, which is often included especially in hip hop tracks.
hey man, that anomoly you're talking about when importing vocals and having to set as 1 bar less than what you exported, you're actually thinking of it as bar 49 being a full bar. you'd only set it at 49 on recycle if you ended your actual loop on 50, because the START of 49 is the END of 48, so you actually have 48 full bars of 4 count, rather than 49... know what i mean?
is there a way you can take out lets say a bass line or a guitar riff out by itself? cuz I was told that you can chop up the song really little to where you can actually take out vocals of a song. but idk how that would work.
It is possible to tell recycle manually how many bpm a sample is? Cause that bar is always frozen when I use it ( I see it is frozen at youre recycle as wel )
yes there is. right underneath "original tempo" is the tempo box were you can adjust how fast or slow you want it to be. you have to be in preview mode however.
Great tutorial, thanks, especially the tips about starting on the 1, and the number of bars to enter in Recycle. I for one would love to see some of the "crazy shit" you can do in a future video!
