  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

  • 1.07 , Wtf is wrong with his face

  • see what they keep forgetting is to say that YOU NEED BOTH RECYCLE AND REASONS. THEY KEEP LEAVING OUT THAT YOU NEED RECYCLE LOL . SO YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO PROGRAMS.

  • digging the dog fashion disco shirt man!!!

  • cool video.

Do you know why Recycle (or at least my version) has a 5 minute limit for samples?

I'm into more housey/trance things and these songs are usually over 5 minutes thus if I want to keep the vocal adjusted to the measure it's pretty hard

  • do u have to have recycle to do this?

  • when i put some vocals into recycle its all one and goes for 1 min 20 secs and i slide the slice button thingo it doesnt place many slices and if i keep on doing it, it makes more slices but uneven really uneven can some one help ?

  • ready for the crazy shit!

  • I'm using this technique for introducing guitar in Reason, and I'm having problems with the volume gradually fading out. What gives?

  • You should make more tutorials.

  • I've not read the thread, but I record vocals and throw them into Wavelab, splice them up and play them through the NN19. Simples? It's Old skool and very manual but it keeps it organic. Peace.

  • oh that was 3.0, so im guessing its the same way for 4.0.... i dont kno if i have recycle tho i cant find that program

  • THE CRAZYY SHIT haha

  • Ugh, such a cute guy!

  • I did the Garageband shiz and exported @ 105 bars @ 130bpm. That gave me a m4a file, I used Switch to create a wav and imported that into Recycle. I input 104 bars and it gives me 129.965 bpm!? I presume it's the conversion of the file that's screwed it up slighty?

  • vresion of reason it is&?

  • Oh my God! Do any of these commenters speak English?

  • This is a terrible tutorial. I'm even more confused than before I watched it.

  • @BraNNers2107 Did you watch even halfway attentively? I'm actually pretty darned happy with this tutorial

  • maaaaan dawg........wtf........ patna i got reason 2.5 on ma laptop and i wanna record ovr the beats i made but im new ta dis shyt mane..... how do i get to what ur showin us in dis tutorial????? pleaz help me undadig that kuz i see wat u doin but how do i get to wat it is ur doing?????

  • @Taabu1990 he is 20 years old and writes like he speaks... one, go to school. two, learn english. three, be a nice bro and stop using reason. four, go and do some real shit like and work or something.

  • ur tut sucks dosent show how to get these things

  • @AurisDJ

This video is assuming that you already down the basics.

  • This I found no help at all, when i do this my lyrics become cut in reason and cut out early even though the tempo is right. Am gona get protools and rewire, unless anyone can help me. also rex files only play from the fist bar, reason record will record wav i have been told maybe this is a better option.

  • So basically what you need is; Recycle. =)

Thank you very much for this. I just got some problems right know with this... Youtube + You = Problem solved.

    Great!

  • btw im using and prefer audacity (im n00b and its simpler for me)

  • I use audacity. Its really good for quick and easy recording

  • i want to add some background white noise that is filtered somewhat, as well as some kind of plugin that will make my voice sound really good.

not for music though. where can i find voice mutilation software or i mean unmutilation software???

  • Hes giving you a tutorial, what do you expect him to use? Sign language? Tard.

  • show us teh crazy shit!

  • hey man where can i download some good free reason refills?

  • I wouldn't bother using reason for Vocals unless you really want to do the "Crazy shit" he goes on about!!! Much easier using audition, Sonar, pro tools etc....

  • The smaller sized files will enable you to keep sync by syncing each file individually. Keep same tempo as your original reason file . Play sample 1 then 2 then 3 then 4.. EG C then D then E then F if that is where you placed the samples Although this is a pain in the arse it does work really well and syning will not be a problem. .

  • If you already have a wave file (vocals) split it up into smaller portions and assign each portion to different keys on the sampler. You will have to transpose each sample to play correctly..

    .

  • Great tutorial.. but no one uses Garage Band !!! Can you explain how this is done with Pro tools ? I am attempting that as I type right now... iT's not the same process... Unless i am just a ditz. lol

  • This works in theory, but when you try to run a sample for any long lengths of time with either sampler (NN-XT or NN-19) the sample slowly speeds up, thus yielding a vocal track that is completely out of sync with the music by the end.

  • Actually, if done right, the audio file will lock to tempo and not drift at all.

  • Then how does one go about locking it into the tempo?

  • i have a wav ..can you tell me how to put it into the sampler first please...iv tried b4 but no joy...is recycle a sep programme to reason 4?

  • recycle is a separate sw.

  • thank s for getting to the point cant wait for the second one

  • great tutorial - thanks for sharing

  • Comment removed

  • check out audacity. its free and records audio and whatnot.

  • what version of reason is dat ive got 4

  • it's the mac version

  • Comment removed

  • this was made in '07, it's probably older.

  • Great stuff, thanks for the tips, just one question, why one bar less when setting the length in ReCycle?

  • it ends on the beginning of the 49th bar, but the length is 48 full bars.

  • excellent tutorial man, got it right the first time.Well explained

    thanks again.

  • Is that an Iam McCulloch vocal? sick work neoverse...

  • "... and I'll show you how to do the craaazy shit" < - classic.

  • fucking lol

  • Did you do any compressing/limiting to the vocals before exporting them to Recycle?

  • honestly, I don't remember. Probably some light compression coming in.

  • how can i get mp3 file on my lap into recycle?

  • you have to convert it to a wave file, i suggest you use Audicity to convert it to a wave

  • Can u get just the vocals from a song?

  • Dam! thats foken awesome!how he get the effects tho????

  • modulation wheel :P

if you keep a close eye one the rex u can its automized

  • Thank you vry muchfor the info

  • Great Video!

  • I really wanna hear wat u can do with the vocals (like u were saying earlier) =)

  • bmore in the house!

  • What up yo? hehe, bmore lingo is a lost cause in my neighborhood.

  • ha no doubt... i'm originally from b-more... up in NY now. yo I fuck with your tutorial stuff son, still tryna learn reason myself even though I been on fl for years. Tryna do this remix in reason so i'm watching this vid again lol

  • dude we don't have to see your face

  • Gee guy, tell me how you really feel

  • LMAO

  • Do i have to buy recycal before i can record my vocals on the tracks that ive made on reason?.

  • No you don't have to. But you can do so much more by separating them in recycle...at least that's my opinion. there are many ways to do it and it all comes down to personal preference.

  • I am pretty sure you can only open rex .files in dr;rex and you need recycle to make them

  • Hey man. Respect from Ireland on your reason skills. Your demo songs are the best in Abbey roads and Reason 4.

  • are you from philly? sounds like it

  • baltimore actually.

  • i see! so basically the point of this is to freak the vocals...using gates and such...things that would be a lot harder and less effective to setup in pro tools? do you always wind up tracking everything into protools or do you just leave the reason mix as is? i find a lot of time to go back to PT and remix eberything is a chore.

  • i hate reason because it doesnt have vst or audio in, there is no reason AT ALL.

  • Gracias por el Video !

    ahh EXCELENTE REMERA!

    GO DFD!

  • Thanks for this video.

  • what effect do u use to make the vocals real rather than being raw like directly from the mic.how do u make the sound real like the studios.

  • What you need to do to get vocals "real like the studios" is go to one but if you can't afford that and you have a home studio then you need 1. a good singer! 2. a good mic with a good mic pre! 3. A decent recording medium like Logic. 4. Then Record. 5. E.q. till it sounds the way you want it then add effects and compression. Thats I do to make vocals sound good! When you track anything always go dry, flat e.q, no effects, no compression nothing because the only way to change is to rerecord it!

  • LOL @ 1:08 haha good vid man

  • Haha Lmao!

  • Do you NEED Recycle to add vocals into Reason??? :O

  • yep indeed you do...

  • I've seen you talkin shit on like 4 different videos, get a life.

  • actually you sound like a bitch....who bitches about shiz she don't know.

  • whos the guy singing? sounds good

  • is this a way to take the vocals away from the beat? im new.

  • I have put vocals into a Reason song before using pretty much what you did, but I'm glad someone has such a great straightforward presentation of it (for those of us who forget if we don't do it often). The good tips throughout are much appreciated.

  • mokkeybars....LMAO!so true

  • He has an amazingly round head. Its brilliant. It may be the camera angel, it may be the stubble, or it just might be that he is son of an orange.

    Craaazy Shit.

  • nativeops is a lil bitch....go lick yer moms clit.....by da way bro nice jam....

  • Great job with the tutorial. hehe I like your shirt :D

  • an easy way to do that wil be.. recording the audio, export it as aiff and then trigger it with reddrum.. no rewire is needed.. but of course, you'll miss all the advantages of reason.

  • Great vid

  • anyone now if this works when recording vocals on sony acid pro?

  • it works with anything you can record vocals in.... you could record with windows recorder then save that as a wav file n open it up in recycle although the quality wouldn't be all that great you can still do it with anything that has a recording feature

  • Once you get the vocals into Reason using a Dr. Rex or any of the other tools you will never turn back. I have now permanently removed Pro Tools and Logic Audio from my life.

  • people forget that sampleing was the way to go before digtal audio god for those people that complain about using reason for vocals is serously missing out on creative possiblities

  • Big help.. Many thanks keep up the good work!!

  • cool production, wheres the track available at

  • u r the man Ive been fiddling with this and now I got it on point...thanx.

  • where would the video be that has all the effects and "crazy shit" done to the vocals

  • Where can I get this song at?

  • but what if you want to break the vocals up on different dr.rexs and have them come in at differnt times?

  • Youve been a big help to me...I got the reason 4 tutorial and its helped me alot. Thank you for your help, its highly appreciated.

  • you're so cool...:)

  • thats coolman, thanks for the tutorial

  • Hey Dude i was just wandering how you managed to seperate the vocals and the beat... Beacuase i would like to be able to put vocals into reason and remix the song.

Would really appreciate it if you could get back to me =D cheers dude

  • hey, might be too long since you posted and figured it out by now, but he recorded the vocals and beat separately, he didn't rip the vocals from an existing song. there are various things that supposedly can do that but most won't do it very well, you really have to get the 12" of the song in question and use the a capella, which is often included especially in hip hop tracks.

  • This is cool, but since I upgraded Pro Tools 7.4 and I find "elastic time" a lot easier to use. Never the less cool tutorial.

  • right, if your in pro tools world, this is prob not for you ;)

  • What I'd like to know is did you add the effects in Reason or did you do it in Recycle to the slice that you wanted that echo effect added to?

  • So reason doesnt record audio? I wonder why would they do that it would be so much easier... its still awesome tho

  • THANKYOU SOOOOOOO MUCH for this! I've been trying in vain to do exactly that for aaages. You've just added a whole new level to my work.

  • hey man, that anomoly you're talking about when importing vocals and having to set as 1 bar less than what you exported, you're actually thinking of it as bar 49 being a full bar. you'd only set it at 49 on recycle if you ended your actual loop on 50, because the START of 49 is the END of 48, so you actually have 48 full bars of 4 count, rather than 49... know what i mean?

  • "Craazy Shit!"lol

  • nice tutorial. i wish the music was better.

  • what's wrong with the music?

  • is there a way you can take out lets say a bass line or a guitar riff out by itself? cuz I was told that you can chop up the song really little to where you can actually take out vocals of a song. but idk how that would work.

  • It is possible to tell recycle manually how many bpm a sample is? Cause that bar is always frozen when I use it ( I see it is frozen at youre recycle as wel )

  • yes there is. right underneath "original tempo" is the tempo box were you can adjust how fast or slow you want it to be. you have to be in preview mode however.

  • Very cool and informative. Will you do that second one that you mentioned too?

  • awesome man :D thanks!! <3 reason!

  • this is helpful stuff man, its greatly appreciated...one question though...if you exported up to 49...wouldn't that make it 48 whole measures anyway?

  • I think the next video should be on how to mix the vocals once you get them in reason.

  • Great! Now I have no excuse for leaving vocals out of Reason :p (good job btw)

  • Excellent!! Thanks for the post

  • Great job Josh. I would love to see more of these!

  • Well, now there's a video to point to for those dreaded FAQs "How do I put vocals im my song???" ;)

Short, simple and clear explanation :)

  • Great tutorial, thanks, especially the tips about starting on the 1, and the number of bars to enter in Recycle. I for one would love to see some of the "crazy shit" you can do in a future video!
