No wonder Tracey didn't want to grow up in real life - her childhood was perfect. I wish I could have had a childhood like that - I grew up watching these girls and even with the anorexia and DUI - they grew up to be talented and well rounded. As far as their mistakes - everyone is entitled to make mistakes . . . . just not everyone has their on the front page.
I thought that at first too, but probably it was filmed in early 1984 so Tracey and Missy would stil have been 14 and 13 since their birthdays aren't until spring/summer. However, Brandy's is in error, she would have been 6.
What a lovely, nostalgia-inducing video, Louise! I was particularly impressed with Bonnie Gold's comments about the importance not only of maintaining a life of normalcy for her little stars but also of recognizing that if Tracey, Missy, or Brandy wanted to relinquish acting, they would not be goaded into staying in the limelight for the sake of money, fame, or parental ego stroking, as is often the case nowadays. How refreshing--a show-biz mom who was not an overbearing stage mom.
Judith Barsi used to have slumber parties with these girls...she played younger versions of Brandy in the move "Fatal Vision" and Tracy in her "Growing Pains" role as Little Carol.
Brandy sure did turn into a babe when she was interviewed for Tracey's E! "True Hollywood Story" in 2003 - wish I could get to meet her, as well as her famous sisters!
In regards to my last comments, to Mr. & Mrs. Gold's credit, they sought every treatment for their daughter.
In her autobiography, Room To Grow, An Appetite for Life, she opens the first page of the book emphatically saying that she believes her anorexic tendencies were pre-disposed, and her disease probably would have happened even had she not been child actress. Thank God she was able to fight. I'm a huge Tracey Gold fan, and have been for years.
Mrs. Gold said that the children could continue acting if they stayed normal. Tracey had anything but a normal experience on Growing Pains, when she battled anorexia nervosa in the early 90's. She went from about 130 to about 80 pounds, and was suspended from the show. However, by this time, she was well over 18, probably more like 21 when the anorexia really kicked-in high gear.
I checked into it some, and indeed, Dr. Melissa Gold is a practicing psychologist in the state of Maine.
Interestingly, Tracey Gold is married to a guy from my hometown area. (Toms River, NJ) Husband Roby Marshall's father had Roby's mother killed in a murder for hire turned tv miniseries, starring Joanna Kerns, the mom from Growing Pains. Through Kerns, Roby Marshall met Tracey. They have been married for 13 years and have 3 sons.
That's very cool. Thank you for sharing that. I thought in re-watching it that they had been fairly accurate but I wasn't sure if Missy had gone to medical school. I'm very proud of her.
Interestingly, both Tracey and Missy almost accurately predicted their futures. Although not a teacher, Tracey is an actress, and has a lot of kids. I don't know where she went to college, but Missy Gold is a psychologist I have heard.

Too bad none of them went on to anything else.

@kmg4 Well Missy went on to become a successful psychologist, which is good--she stayed out of trouble and managed to avoid the child star pitfalls.

Wow they seem really close. I didn't know Tracey had a sister with light blonde hair! That's cool.

It's true. Tracey was born on May 16, 1969.
Missy was born on July 14, 1970.
Brandy was born on July 11, 1977.
Making the girls 15, 14, and 7 in 1984.
birthdays3 3 years ago
In the video it says that the girls are
14, 13, and 5. If this was in 1984,
Then that would make them 15, 14, and 7.
