seemed normal to me, for 1st, 2nd, 5th and if available 6th gear you have to put the gear leaver to a side. Only 3rd and 4th are in the middle.
You must be confused with a semi-automatic.

The truth is that horsepower is what matters, much more than torque. Big V8s will reach their peak of power early because of their low redline but while an F1 car has LESS torque, it makes 1200hp because it can redline at 20,000 rpms (horsepower is a measurement of torque abnd rpms).

mzracer: A quote from one of the gals in the office that races with him: "Here is the start of a recent SCCA ITA race at Watkins Glen. This guy (Greg Amy) is one of the top drivers in the NER. I don't know him personally but I've been on the track with him at test days and his track manners are impeccable. He had a lousy qualifying run for the race so he wound up pretty far back in the pack for the start. He went on to win the race and set the track record."
