Remus bites me

I have two gerbils, and I've only ever been bitten once and that was by my brothers ( his gerbil could smell mine ). You're lucky you got your hand out in time.. the nasty buggers don't let go - they're jaw locks so you can either swing the little git off or give him a smack on the tail to make him let go, or sit there for 15 minutes until they decide to let go like I had to.

I got my Gerbil from Pets at home the other day and I held it and after 2 seconds it bit my finger and held on for a bout 15 seconds and when it let go it started to bleed..now im scared of holding it.

Another reason why a hamster would bite is because it teethes too like babies so getting them something they can chew on helps if you don't already have something like milk bones or a mineral stone.

I let my gerbil bite me so he could get used to me but one time he bit really hard and wouldnt let go and then i got him off and i was bleeding

Once one of my gerbil bit me...it's sore....and A-lot of blood comes out.and he kept hanging on my finger.And when they nibble me i leave my hand there until they stop. :)

Hahaha cute gerbil. I had a gerbil who looks just like yours named Goldie. She passed away now, but when she was stiff in her hind legs, I tried to feed her. She bit me!

Yes you are right.  If I had had more presence of mind I wouldn't have jerked away but it was just a quick reflex. This was very soon after I got them and I didn't know anything about gerbils at the time.

My two gerbils, Fred and George are really sweet - called them that coz I can't tell the difference between them.

yo i got 2 female gerbils....i want a male but the petsmart i got them from only sales females....my grey one is cool it will let me feed it sunflower seeds but the white one is a jerk. it doesnt want to have anything to do with me... i want a male to breed them but i dont know where to get one...nd neither one will let me pick them up...i figured if i had a baby they would grow up being used to me

lol that wasnt a bite... trust me. that was a NIBBLE. he was tasting you x] its so cute when they do that. don't jerk away, it doesn't hurt.. its just very surprising. he might even lick you.. but if he bit you, you'd be gushing blood. look up a hamster or gerbil bite somewhere. hamsters are more powerful, but gerbils don't bite, so i highly doubt you were bitten. cute gerbil btw.

Haha. Well I got him and his twin brother at the same time and I wanted some historical names, so I used Remus and Romulus. Though Remus does evoke images of wolfishness, which coincides with his color. :)

It's very rare that they bite, but they do, trust me. I got bitten very badly by one of my new gerbils recently and had to trade him for another. He locked on and wouldn't let go! He was an aggressive alpha male.

i know they do and you're actually NOT supposed to blow on them when they do, it could trigger a horrible seizure and kill them. DONT BLOW ON THEM. (as they mentioned in the video.) and its not the gerbil that "makes" them bite, the people trigger them to bite.

Some gerbils are just more likely to bite than others though. It's not always 100% the person's fault.

When they bite like that they wont pierce your skin. But they can bite hard enough to hang in your finger and make it bleed.

one time i split up a gerbil fight, with no gloves. i got blood everywhere. when a rodent bites you, you bleed like it was a head wound. they bite deeply, but its usually not big. very weird.

Hyper...yes. Especially when they are young. But they are not nocturnal and pee way less than rats. I got really annoyed at rats when I had them because they slept during the day and went crazy active when I went to sleep. And you have to clean up a LOT more.

My finger nail was just barely long enough that Seamus seemed to think it was a hard edge to chew and got the skin -__-

Sometimes gerbils will bite just to taste you. They're generally very tame and don't bite unless they're cornered or angry at you. So, you either did something to piss him off, or he was just trying to figure out what your fingers taste like. :)

Haha, actually this is the only time he ever bit me (I'm really glad I got it on video). He has chilled out a lot as he has become older and more tame as well.
