The male singing here is Paul Noonan from the Irish band Bell x1. He used to be in another band called Juniper with Damien Rice years ago. It is undoubtedly him, i have this song on my computer and have seen it on the bell x1 website many times.

his voice does sound pretty different.. but you can hear it clear in some points. Maybe he sounds more like himself when singing his own songs. Myself, I know when I sing my own songs I embellish my own vocal quality into it more than I would doing a cover probably.
