@godzillahn I desubbed from WoW to play Rift back in Feb. Both specs are severely impacted by the introduction of the 20-sec cooldown for WoG.

In any meaningful PVP context (e.g. Arenas or Rated BGs), both specs are very limited now. They have weak healing and below-average CC, so the well-roundedness for both specs is now gone.

We don't have the epic self heals anymore, but the burst is still very substantial.

Prot pallys still have some serious advantages over other classes, we still have some limited problems with kiting, but even in a lot of pvp blues i never found it as much of a problem as it used to be even in cata systems patch.

I'm running resto sham/prot pally right now find, cc/self heals problems aside, prot's big fuckoff burst/sustained dps and high survivebility make it still very viable

Nice vids, I love prot, but I am the bearer or bad news. Have a look at the patcn notes for 4.1. WoG will have a 20 second CD, pretty much the end of prot and ret as we know it. :( Even warriors and rogues will have more self healing.

I have a question, me and my enhancement partner have been having a hard time as soon as we got into the 1800 ratings, how do you defeat a rogue/mage comp? They are so much cc that they can burst on my partner while ccing me and him at the same time.

@DrumOfWar any Mage/DPS comp can be tough. If you tunnel the Mage his DPS drops a lot, but the issue is you may have times when you are not building HoPo. Watch my other vids, this was just the 1st in the series

I would reccommend finding other Prot Pallies to pvp with. Prot pallies synergize very well together in the arena. You can protect each other with hand of sac, divine guardian, and constantly word of glory each other. I have 4 other prot pally friends on the server and we do 5s, 3s, and 2s ALL with nothing but prot pallies and we do very well. all above 2100 rating. With that many prot pallies all word of glorying the focus target you'll find that you will never get dropped no matter what dps

Just a question about your heals. Why flash of light? If u look at it, it is worst possible choice, based on how much mana does it cost, and how much does it heal. If u have bubble up already you can cast 2 divine lights, which will heal much more HP, or Holy lights. i cannot decide between the two :)

@petroKV I usually squeeze in a Judgement during bubble to proc mana regen. In which case, it might be tight getting in 2 DLs. But your point is valid.

It also depends on the opponents. If they can dispel, I'll always cast FoL first, if I need a heal.

Listen, if you are geared, and know what your doing and making good macros and using holy pwr wisely, ret/ prot is still good in arena and pvp. Atm, with gear, only classes that have an unfair advantage are death knights and mages.

Form your own opinion! I've been documenting my experience so far and I believe Prot is fine and will be better in 4.0.6.

Taug, you got anything that show's the damage difference from the glad slicer vs. the mace or ax. It seems overall they both have identical average damage. And if you put them all on a target dummy...they all will do identical damage. In your tutorial you said no no on the slicer. I'm not saying your wrong or right, I'm just asking for more support on the topic of the Slicer being a big No No.

@ivorymindslead Look at the max damage on the tooltip. Or run Recount with each weapon and see the max crit damage. What you'll see is that the mace and axe pack more burst than the slicer.

Remember for PVP: burst damage matters.

Taug, i play enhance, so it seems that using one of the instant MS processes to fire off an elemental bind would be very useful. I understand the risk of CS, but shutting down the pet would prove very helpful.

Anytime a shaman faces a frost mage, the elemental should be shut down asap. The mage goes bananas.

Keep in mind too with the cast time, against a Mage comp, he is usually their focus-fire target and if he tries casting an ability with a cast time he'll get silenced/locked out, which is very bad for our comp.

@gmollster Because its stupid? You wanna CC the player that isnt being focused, and Ele specced shaman is going to wreck anything if you let him freecast and its just common sense to CC the healer and kill the mage when against a HPally/FMage comp.

@gmollster Asked Kashmir, his response was what I expected: he doesn't cast it unless the Mage is CC'd because of the risk of 8-sec lockdown from Counterspell. I show that lockout in my second 2v2 video (1750-1850), and it's just nasty.

We've gone 5-1 so far this week and are up to 2042 Rating :)

Holy is quite good right now. Prot is underrated. Both are viable.

Play the spec you want to play. I make these videos because there are many people interested in Prot but there isn't much helpful material on how to play the spec in PVP. Hopefully these videos and my Prot PVP Guide help

@holypaladinpewpew You're forgetting that our comp has about as little CC as is possible for a 2v2 DPS comp.

Sounds like you are a Holy Pally, which is currently one of the more effective Arena specs.

I don't really have an interest in trying to get to 2k with a "faceroll" comp which we are not. It's the reason neither Kash nor I went Resto in WotLK with our Shaman or Druid - it just didn't interest either of us, even though it would have made it easier back then to get to 1800+.

@ashwinqwert Enhancement played well is an excellent spec IMO. Most people go Resto though, just as lots of Pallies go Holy instead of Prot or Ret.

As far as the video goes, it's not that Shamans are squishy per se, he's just squishier than me so he gets focused fire quite a bit

Hi I was wondering why you chose to use Glyph of Hammer of Justice over Glyph of Divine Protection. You have GOAK and AD for melee if need be but you would gain 40% magic reduction. I have been pvping ret but am currently switching to Pret for the hell of it. Just wanted to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

@chogan73 I'm generally not a fan of glyphs that buff x but nerf y (with Focused Shield being an exception) - and this is the reason I passed on the DP glyph.

The extra 5 yards with the HoJ glyph can be the difference between getting kited to death and closing the gap, interrupting an enemy heal, stopping a flag runner, etc. I find it very useful.

Search for it there. There may be some minor bugs with Gladius, but I think the addon author(s) will sort it out.
