you are really lucky, because twin births can go horribly wrong. I saw in the tv a vet series where a mare had give birth to twins. her rectum prolapsed, it was put back in place, but the mare couldn't poops afterwards ever again and had to be put down. One foal was incredibly weak and couldn't even lift its head but in the end at least the two foals, that had been born 14 days too early with lungs still insufficiently matured, survived.
@crazymangas ... No, she didn't reject either of these foals. They are now 3 years old and doing wonderful, and still play with each other ... they are best friends!!
Just as strong and healthy as any other horse ... and full of 'attitude'!! The bay filly is quite a jumper ... can jump out of her stall at a stand-still!!!!
Not necessarily. We suspected there wasn't something quite right with this pregnancy, but the vet found nothing abormal (didn't even hear a 2nd heart-beat).
did you think you owuld have to cut the other foal out?or did you let nature take its course....did you know it was twins or did they coem as a surprise? i really watn to know im very intested
We had no idea she was carrying twins .. was never determined to be the case by the vets. Nature took it's course well, and it was a clear, clean delivery.
I really want to get to know a foal and watch it grow to become a horse. I live in Mk if any one knows were there are any, I will ask were I go riding.
It's certainly not easy for a mare to nurse 2 foals, but Angells Essence got LOTS of extra calories, and supplements to make it all easier on her. We have another mare that LOVES foals, and even when she has her own foal at her side, she will allow 1 or 2 OTHER foals to nurse from her ... she must think she's the community milk machine!!
They are coming 3 in March and I saw the bay for sale on arabianhorsesdotorg for only $1200.00! What a bargain!!!!! They are beautiful because they have champions ancestors on both sire and dam sides of their pedigree! Any arabian affecionado knows who Magnum Psyche, Legacy of Fame and MHR Nobility are!
Actually, they will only be 2 in March of '09 (not 3). They ARE a bargain, but ONLY to an approved individual. I am screening potential buyers EXTREMELY careful, which is why a sale has not panned out as of yet. Let me know if you might be that potential buyer!! I'd love to keep the two together, but most buyers are looking for one horse at a time; not two. : )
That is SUPER smart of that girl to be in there with them! Imprinting is going to help them be better horses, as im sure you already know... :-) Very cute foals, and the mare looks great! What genders are the foals?
Truly amazing! I breed thoroughbreds and usually, if the mares scan shows twins, i have one of them squeezed. I know to anyone who doesnt understand this, it may sound cruel, but in the long run, its the kind thing to do, as the mare could go to full term and end up with two dead foals.... or lose them early, or lose one and the other maybe disformed. It can be traumatic for mare and owner. But congratulations on your beautiful girls! and i'm glad to hear they are doing well!
They are growing up so beautifully. Great conformation on both girls, making it hard to sell them. May end up keeping them and train them for double harness cart (unless I find them an awesome buyer). I've got a list of people I update on the twins, and I'd like to keep this going into their adult years.
I, personally, did not see the birth, but those up at Toskhara Arabians did. They have foaling cameras, and a full staff to tend to the horses, so they witnessed the full birthing. My mare was at Toskhara Arabians at the time of the births, so I didn't get to see the birth, but got there quickly (about an hour after they were born). : )
jeez you are sooooooo lucky that all three survived and that the mother didn't reject them after they were born. congrats and keep up the good work!!!
THANK YOU!!! Actually, 'Secret' (the black filly) was smaller than her sister, 'Stella', but Secret has caught up to the same exact size as her sis. In fact, Secret had to be bottle fed the mare's milk for the first 8 hours, and then she was able to stand on her own and catch up in size over the months. They are BOTH very healthy and full of play!!!
wow the survival rate for a mare and twins are horribly low!! this is the first time i have seen LIVE twins with thier mother alive!! wow ! Usually one or both or all three with die due to complications!! you are so lucky to have them...congrats!
umm just a thought.. if this mare is pron to carrying foals why not have her ultra sound early on and if there r 2 have one pinched off.i know it sounds cruel but better the abort one then cause risk to mare and babies. u've been really lucky she's just aborted late in her pregnancy and no internal damage was done and she's still able to conceive.
but the babies are both adorable and glad all r doin well
I think you may be talking to the individual who has posted as 'luxcretia2'??? The mare in my video (Angells Essence), here, has not twinned before. This was her first twinning. She's in foal now, and the ultrasound shows one fetus (not twins). I would agree that ANY HORSE that has had twins, be ultrasound for that possibility to happen again. Majority of the time, we ultrasound all mares.
you are ´quite lucky.we had a mare in this stable.the owner breeds horses, but this poor horse always got twins.they never remained 9 months inside and consequently were dead.I was one time with her and I was watching the whole birth.one "baby"died with 3 months or so inside the womb(that was one reason the mother gave birth this time so early), and the other little one was lovely, pretty but had to die after birth(7 months).
These fillies look absolutely fantastic for being twins, usually one or both have conformation problems, mostly in the legs. These fillies look great, though!
I love arabians - if I could afford to buy them, train them, and keep them happy, I'd definately buy them. Unfortunately, I can't. Whoever does buy them will have something special, though. <:
soooooooooo sweet, wow i love arabs and they are even sweeter than ever. Congrats for raising both alive, its so rare, the mare and you must be great with foals.
THANK YOU!!!! It is with MANY THANK YOU'S that I pass off the accomplishments of getting these twins through the hurdle of their first days of life to Toskhara Arabians (who had my mare at their place when these twins were born). They did an incredible job with these girls!
You are so lucky to have that magical kinda lifestyle. Those twins are beautiful! They will grow to be so sleek and handsome. You look to have a lovely bond with the mother also (who is equally as beautiful!) I wish u all the luck u could want, xxx
I'm soooooo sorry to hear about the loss of your twins. I really didn't think our twins would survive the ordeal either, but the birth was about as perfect as it could be, and Stella nursed right away, while it took Secret (the 2nd born, and the smaller) a good 10 hours or so before she could find the 'milk machine' on her own! They are VERY HEALTHY, with great confirmation (including very nice legs), and full of energy. They're so fun to watch
Thank you! The black filly is Angell's Psycret (aka Secret); and the bay filly is Psynt By Angells (aka Stella), named after a mix between the sire & dam's names ... Psylebrty of Fame (sire), and Angells Essence (dam).
They're doing great!! You can see some of my other 'updated' videos of the foals on YouTube, and see pictures of them on my website at Laurel-Arabians dot com.
a mare at my barn was pregnant and expecting twins, but they both died:( it was really sad for the owner, but than like 1 month later another horse had a baby, and about 2 weeks ago a mare that we haad no clue was pregnant had a baby out in a field over night:)
My sister and me are twins, and we are COMPLETELY different in every way. Like looking at us, there seems to be NO way we are related. Shes taller, and dirty blonde, and I am brunette, and the smaller one, more girly, and we like totally different types of music and so on.
That's a great comparison to these two!!! Secret and Stella look SO DIFFERENT, other than their basic structure, and while Secret was the bottle fed baby for the first 12 hours, she was the most stand-offish, and now she has really warmed up to all the people around her and they push for the attention over one another!!
The bay is LA Psynt By Angells, and the black filly is LA Angells Psycret (Dam is Angells Essence, by MHR Nobility, and Sire is Psylebrty of Fame ... Legacy of Fame x Maggity Ann, by Magnum Psyche). We call the twins Secret (black filly) and Stella (bay filly). : )
Yes, they're definitely twins. Twins (in horses) are not the same as in people ... they can be quite different in appearance (coat color as well). In fact, the one filly is bay and the other is black! : )
are you planning on keeping them? if not how much are you asking for both or one? i have a training farm and i buy foals and train them and some i keep. These i would keep.
einfach nur schön....ich hoffe, die Fohlen haben sich gut entwickelt und es geht ihnen gut......

Are you sure it's twins? Their coats are different. And their face. Still cute! I'm glad all 3 horses are ok!

Yes, they're definitely twins. Twins (in horses) are not the same as in people ... they can be quite different in appearance (coat color as well). In fact, the one filly is bay and the other is black! : )
