If you read your history and are educated, you would be using the correct data and the correct terminology. NO, an invaded country is not always owned permenantly. AN ASSIMILATED country is thus captured forever. No, the Afghan people were split tribes and split territories for the longest time under many rule. They didnt combine into a unified country until much later in their history.
The Greeks combined to form Greece yet they were a land full of tribes/cultures of related peoples.

McChrystal was under Bush and was responsible for the surge. Obama hand-picked McChrystal as well. Your very own claims defeat your argument. Why would Obama keep these two if they sucked under Bush. Also, it couldn't be decades (since that is 10 years +) because its been 8 years.

Hey Moron, We had a policy in Afghanistan since the Russians where there, we created the Taliban. BTW, The military will always want more troops, they wanted 400,000 in Afghanistan while Bush was in office. I am skeptical that 30,000 will make a difference, but with 110,000 still in Iraq it is probably all we can spare.

ncman: YES. That is exactly what I am stating. Bush/Cheney never put forth a real strategy in Afghanistan. Moreover, Bush/Cheney underestimated the required force levels necessary to secure Afghanistan.
In Fact: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen, admitted that the Bush administration has neglected Afghanistan.

Here's a FACT: Obama voted against funding both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Another fact is that Obama voted against the surge in Iraq and said it would not work. I could use a liberal tactic and lay the blame with him but both sides neglected both wars. Another fact: Bush never told the Taliban & al-Qaeda our war strategy and the month our troops will be withdrawn. That was Obama and his neglect.

McCain voted twice against repealing the capital gains tax cut and applying the savings to replace equipment used by the Army and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan.

NCMan28025, every time Clinton went after Bin Laden or Sadam it was hailed as an attempt to draw attention away from his sexual escapades. Clinton took terrorism more seriously than Bush. Richard Clark detailed the policy of Clinton and it was what Bush adopted after 9-11.
Face it, Afghanistan was treated as Conservation of Force mission for 7 years. The Joint Chiefs point to this as the reason for our difficulty today. I doubt Obama revealed everything about his strategy.

That was one of my points of debate. DeepElm90 blamed Bush for not capturing towel head bin Laden in Toro Bora. I pointed out that had Clinton kept his missle in his pants, he could've taken out bin Laden on more than one occassion. If that would have been a concern, there would be no 9/11 and no Afghan War. Obama revealed the most important part of the war strategy...the month American troops will leave. Attacks will go down, Obama will claims success and then when we are out, Taliban is back.

FACT: Bin Laden was present during the battle for Tora Bora and that failure to commit U.S. ground troops to hunt him was our gravest error.
This was according to civilian and military officials within the Bush administration with first-hand knowledge.
