They don't seem to realize that the bible, especially the old testament, is a collection of myths going around the Mediterranean area at that time. For example, they don't realize that the story of "the flood" comes nearly verbatim from "The Epic of Gilgamesh" which was written hundreds of years before. They also don't recognize that Genesis comes from "Enûma Eliš".

DNA was discovered long after the bible was written. Virtually all of modern science has disproven the bible's fairy tales. There was no great flood, no one walked on water and snakes don't speak.
