  • I have to go back and watch this every so often to remind myself of the ego of the players from the school down south.

  • This is JUST a football game. If God isn't ending world hunger, he sure as hell had nothing to do with winning this game. Give credit where credit is due.

  • Sad to say that this is no longer the most ridiculous thing said by a BYU player after a win over Utah. Way to go Max Hall!

  • This is not uncommon for BYU football players. Many believe when they lose that God is teaching them a lesson about humility, and believe when they win it's because they are living their lives correctly. I know people call BYU "the Lord's university". But to stand up in testimony meeting and say that you won or lost because of how you are living your life? If you don't believe me go to a testimony meeting after a football game and listen to the players who stand up and bear their testimony.

  • Hey collie where was the magic this year? were you not living right you bitch?

  • Does millions of dollars and catching passes from one of NFL's best quarterbacks mean anything to you?

  • He is too slow, he won't last... And he is not making millions yet either..

  • Lets see Jerry Rice was not a burner and was probably the NFL's best receiver. Both Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald were 4.6-4.7 forty guys. Collie is 4.5 guy; I am sure he will do just fine.

  • Did you see that TD catch today against the Seahawks? You might want to rethink that statement.

  • love it collie maybe you should have been more righteous in 2008 so your team could have had a chance. by the way love the quest for perfection 50,000 t-shirts have already been printed for next years utah 2009 season

  • And that is why people hate BYU! Cocky, arrogant pricks who think they're better than everyone else.

  • cause they are!

  • thanks for proving my point, tool!

  • lol, Collie is soo cocky. But he's like TO, meaning he is able to back it all up.

  • yeah. screw byu. thats all i have to say in my intellectual greatness.

    retard.

  • That is perhaps the most stupid comment I've ever heard regarding college football. Your basically implying that the losing team or player isn't doing what's right. I guess BYU players must have been out drinkin' and carousing around the night before that got pounded by TCU. You get what I'm saying? Let's just pretend God cares about all college football teams equally, or, better yet let's just leave him out football commentary.

  • Utes lost because they believe in science..Oh that funny movie..

  • For all the attention Collie's comments got, nobody noticed the stupid question he was asked. Did they get lucky? The interviewer must have been a Ute fan because "luck" is the same lame excuse Utah fans have been using for the last two years.

  • That's your new argument? It's the reporters fault the Collie is a douche? Nice

  • Collie was 100% right. Utah fans just get all pissy because they know it.

  • No. Utah fans get mad because there are people like Collie and you that actualy believe people who support BYU are better than those who chose to support the U

  • What in Collie's comments in any way says that he thinks he's "better" than those who play for the U, support the U, or whatever? He said nothing of the sort. Utah fans just like to read into the comments or actions of BYU coaches and players things that aren't there because they are insecure.

  • "...When you are doing what is right on AND off the field, the lord steps in and plays a part....."

Paraphrased: God helped us win becasue we live better than the U

  • What you just did there is what other Utah fans have done. You injected your own interpretation of what Collie meant into his comment and then used it to hold it against him.

If Collie feels that the Lord helped him personally, that's perfectly fine. Many atheletes have thanked God after winning. As I said before, Utah fans are just insecure. That's why they think BYU fans are judgemental and self-righteous. BYU fans are not those things, Utah fans are just insecure of their own position

  • My own interpretation? How can that possibly be interpretated any other way?

I've never heard an athlete thank god for "stepping in and playing a part" I've heard alot thank God for the ability or the opportunity. There's a big difference there.

As for the insecurity; do you realize that most Utah fans are LDS too? they have the same religious view as you so why would they be insecure? ......

  • Maybe because they are rooting for Utah instead of BYU?

  • ..That doesn't even make sense

  • ...continued:

And I would make the case that religious people are more insecure than the non-religious. Why? becasue religious people, like yourself, need to belive that everything is going to be ok when they die and they will end up in a better place and reminded that God loves them, etc. Atheists and agnostics just take it all for what it is. They live life doing what they want to do, instead of trying to please a God that might not even exist.....

  • It's not a matter of "needing" to believe. We know what we know. Atheist and agnostics are simply ignorant. And they believe that if they don't know if God exists or not, than nobody does.

  • No. You dont KNOW that God is real. You believe and you have faith. I dont care if you want to admit it or not, but its true. You can never prove your God is real.

As for atheists being ignorant. Lets take you, a theist, far example vs me, an atheist. Have you ever once questioned your religion? or explored other ones? I doubt it. I bet you blindly follow. I've read the book of Mormon, the bible, and the Qu'ran. You? I study religion at the U, I'm sure I know alot more about religion than you

  • See? There you go. Claiming to know what I do or don't know. The height of arrogance.

  • ok? Seeing as how you didn't say anything else I'm going to assume that what i said is true.

  • And Atheists believe that everything can be explained through science. It's that simple. Your God's existence cannot be proven through science, thus, he must not exist

  • That is, without a doubt, the most ridiculous thing you have said yet.

  • How is that ridiculous? That is EXACTLY what atheists believe.... I don't care if you chose to accept the atheist view or not but calling it ridiculous is a little extreme. I mean especially becasue all atheist views are based upon logic.... Think about it

  • ....Continued pt. 2:

And you need to stop making blanket statements about entire fan bases. Yes, there are some class A jerks that are U fans. There are some serious cry baby pussies that are BYU fans. I'm sure that you'd find plenty of tools and douchebags at Wyoming, New Mexico, TCU, SDSU, Air Force, UNLV, CSU, or any other school in the country for that matter.

Turns out that people really aren't all that different, no matter where you are.

  • The only crybaby pussies are the Utah fans who get their little pink panties in a bunch over everything a BYU player says or does.

Example: You about Collie's comments here.

  • Please. Say this situation went like this: ND beats you guys on a last second play and the QB comes over and says "God helped us because catholicism is the one true way" You people would absolutely freak out. So excuse us for disagreeing with Collie's arrogance.

  • awesome comment! love it :)

  • hey...the guys been blessed...SO WHAT.He maid an awesome statement of the experience...SO WHAT...leave it at that...there should be no conroversy about this

    holy crap!

  • yeah there should be.

#1. "on AND off the field" - that statement implies that he is better on AND off the field. He's arrogant

#2. He is a self righteous prick for thinking that with all this war and genocide and starvation goin on in the world, his god would acutally take time out to make sure that somebody wins a football game.

  • holy smokes...if your really trying to criticize this statement,i feel its time to get a life and move on.When i come off a good game,i thank my heavenly father for a good game.God is God,taking time to bless his children through anything is not a problem for him.Even when were on a football field doing whats right,or out anywhere doing whats right, the Lord blesses us.So many athletes will say,it was God up there that helped. So go attack them too.Go find alllll of them.

  • Whenever I hear an athlete thanking God, they thank him for giving them the "ability" or the "opportunity" to do whatever it was they did. I don't care if athletes are spiritual and they thank god, but saying that God stepped in and played a part is ridiculous.

  • LOL! All you Utah fans get your little pink panties in a bunch over everything a BYU coach or player says. Get a life you insecure babies.

  • Once again. Your exagerations are ridiculous. This is the one thing I've heard that Utah fans have been upset about. And for good reason, look at yourself. You're an extremely judgemental and hateful person.

  • Even if I was all of those things, I can rest well knowing that I'm not a Utah fan.

  • no he is saying he lives righteously and he was blessed not by winning but by playing the best to his ability and that just happened to be good enough to win

  • Both Bronco Mendenhall and Celcil O. Samuelson backed up Collie's statement and I also back it up so in the mouths of two or three witnesses this post-game testimony was indeed established.

  • ohhhh you bring the lord into this!

    stupid zoob

  • Give him a break. People are just trying to make Austin's remarks something entirely different then what the intent was. It's so lame how people like to make so much drama over everything, grow up. He fills blessed about the outcome of his personal life, he's crediting God for helping him. Atheletes do that all the time but he happens to be LDS, so let's attack him.. Lame. Great game!

  • Hahahaha, this is ridiculous. I am a Cougars fan and a happy LDS, but Austin Collie's remark is an example of some BYU students' "celestial arrogance", quoting IN Salt Lake City. He needs to re-evaluate himself. He did not get the blessing of a TD because he earned it, but because the Lord gave it.

  • Trueblue...you're showing your ignorance here! 'Moron' is like saying 'oriental' these days. The PC term is Latter Day Saint.

  • Sam... youre a moron, athletes say these type of things all the time. Watch any post game interview and you will hear it. I understand why it might bother you a little, but to let it get out of control is plain ridiculous. you need to relax

  • And they wonder why we hate e'm. On second thought, maybe he's right, God really does love them more; I may just have to convert... still, it will be hard for me, I'm not sure I have that pious, smug, self-righteous thing. I'm sure I can get my little buddy Austin to work on it with me. God Bless himself; and God Bless our Y! Go Cougs, and may God strike down all the Lame-enites who dare threaten Bronco's strappling warriors (and that includes Mitt and his white horse).
