  • Jews are very good songwriters, Dylan, Lou Reed, Cohen, these two, Carole King, Laura Nyro the list goes on....theres talent everywhere but they do come the fore regarding great classic songs. Im not Jewish but I can certainly understand that they played an important role in modern music history.

  • @MetalMachineManiac

wow i thought dylan was english lol , thanks for the history lesson.

  • @MetalMachineManiac

every culture that isn't forbidden from music has. what are you saying? that's like saying, blue-eyed people are very good artists.

  • My dad dedicated this song to me, just to show me how much he loves me, still brings tears to my eyes

    soothing...

  • This is gay - where is the drop?

  • @xdzyI Simon and Garfunkel are worldwide. This song is worldwide. Your asshole is worldwide.

  • Paul Simon's one visit with the gods. He never came close to writing another song of such profound depth and beauty, but then again, neither did anyone else.

  • @clacksonracers What about Sounds of silence???

  • how is this gospel? no clue. some strange lyrics, but overall a masterpiece.

  • My grandfather really liked Simon and Garfunkel. He passed away in 2008, we were really close. Every time I listen to this song, I cry like a baby.

  • RIP Stephen Mark Tuttle hope you are at peace finally

  • this is the song to which i will dance with my father at my wedding!!

  • who fucks who ? Simon Garfunkel ? or Garfunkel Simon

  • @otomanjustice WHAT?! How don't you know Simon and Garfunkel? One of the BEST folk music duos of all time. Look 'em up.

  • @allthatjazzspaz95 you make the smart but you don't know that few years before Simon have said "what were those wimp songs that have made with Garfunkel "

  • This Song Is About Paul Simon And Art Garfunkel's Breakup...

  • @bobfari It's about helping a friend through hard times. He makes no reference to it being about their breakup. The documentary "The Making of Bridge Over Troubled Water" has a wealth of info about this fantastic production that just HAPPENED to be on their breakup album. But it wasn't about their breakup.

  • 2012 Grammy editorial: Somehow we once enjoyed Simon and Garfunkel... Now Taylor Swift+20, Beach Boys+17 & Sir Paul+32 backups (with violins). & Remember Madonna @ SBowl +200 supporters!! How did we do it?

  • Well, what can I say...loved this sing since I was in nappies!!!.still gives me gooseies, LOVE IT!!! :) xxxx

  • My mother died a month ago today. She was 76. I was introduced to this song forty years ago by a dear friend. It always reminded me of the love that she had for me and her other children. I dedicate this to the memory of Mom: Helen Hicks Krout. I love you, Momma.

  • @VRTComfortablyNumb1 i have to sing this song in a funneral tommorow i hope it makes em feel good or at least better

  • @VRTComfortablyNumb1 ....I too just recently lost my mom, she was 75. This song is so very befitting. The love that a mother shares with her offspring will last us until our time comes.

  • Now this is music.

  • great song although i prefer Johnny Cashes cover

  • how the f##k can any one dislike this sad people

  • Just like seeing them in concert in Hyde Park - totally spine chilling

  • @nazarioalvarez1 i know its a real shame. todays music is terrible :(

  • @HeathenSaxon It's always good to have a good cry :)

  • when i listen this song..i remember my mother cause she love this song..:)

  • Art Garfunkel... a gentle voice with strength enough to overwhelm any tide.

  • @MissAPierce What a great thought! Being strong doesn't always mean being tough or hardened to the world. You can be kind and courteous to others while still being considered strong. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone shared that sentiment?

  • Als een brug over troebel water

  • this song is about being left out an on the streets in a troubled world..thats it..nothing more...an paul and or art or both, as they are the singers of this song are saying, we are there for you..having lived on the streets of edmonton for 17 years an getting out of that life this song has a deep impact emotionally an symbollicly...

  • It's a beautiful version of this song,

but the King version brings everyone

    to tears...

    One of the best songs

  • this song acually makes me want to burst into tears

  • with all of the shit that is going on in the world today, and in my personal life, I just wept like a baby while listening to this

  • @HeathenSaxon hang in there silver-girl... i just went through a very, very tough stretch in my personal life. You can make it. Things change. Your situation, your circumstances will change. Everyone's Life has a dark night, a darkest our, but dawn will follow. You'll be in the sunshine again.

  • @HeathenSaxon this song is overflowing with emotions!!!!

  • @HeathenSaxon It sounds like it's because listening to it creates a happy bridge over your troubled waters..

  • @HeathenSaxon

Whatever is happening in your life I hope you get thru it OK.

As Neil Young once said " Don't let it bring you down"

  • @HeathenSaxon Yes, such a great song with powerful lyrics.

  • @HeathenSaxon ......don't fret because you're not alone.

  • @HeathenSaxon dude i hear ya man, me too.

  • This is one of my favorite versions of one of the BEST songs ever produced

  • what a song. THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD!

    SO COOL

  • @GirlFromIpanema1966 - he better not. I'm 15 and this has been my childhood song since I was in for the womb! I hate bieber and Simon and Garfunkel better not let him cover it!

  • On this date in 1970 {Feb. 7th} "Bridge over Troubled Water" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 charts; on February 28th it would peak at No. 1 {for 6 weeks} and spent a total of 14 in the Top 100...

Two other versions of this record have also charted: Arteha Franklin's version reached No. 6 in 1971 while Linda Clifford topped out at No. 41 in 1979.

Paul Simon has been quoted as saying that the best version he ever heard of this song was by Elvis Presley...

  • What can one possibly say about this superlative single that has not already been said?

  • i love this song makes me realise that my good LORD is allways there for me and is also very willing to be there for you as well if you let him take advantage of it

  • @cathy2281 I have no idea whether this classic track by Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel (which topped the charts on both sides of The Atlantic, back in 1970) was intended to be a religious/spiritual song ... but its lyrics could, I suppose, be interpreted in that way.

  • @TheEctomorph sounds like it right? apparently they wrote is wanting to make it sound like a hymnal. they definitely succeeded.

  • @mannzillakilla Sir: You may well be right (about Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" being a religious song.)

  • My mother weeps at the first notes of this song. I was in utero when this song was a popular song; she associates it with giving birth to me. She knew then that my relationship with my father would be difficult...she was correct. This song is so meaningful to my life as a son, and now as a father. I had a bridge, I will provide one for my son. Sail on silver girl. I love you mom

  • @thebrothersinstep you are a true legend.

  • OH MY. so brilliant. amazing and everything.

I have this best friend who dont really appreciate old songs. Then one day, I told her to listen to bridge over troubled water, I even forced her to listened. Then after listening, she told me, "What a song Lyssa, its so nice, I rarely appreciate old songs but this song, its so amazing, the lyrics are really, brilliant".

And now, this is our theme song. I'll always remember her whenever I hear this song. :DD

    THIS IS SUCH AN EPIC!

  • combined brilliance

  • it is sung in harmony.most of todays artist dont have the God given voices to sing it like they do.

  • THIS SONG IS TOO SAD FOR ME

  • My mome has a boner.

  • larry knechtel from the band BREAD did the piano work on this studio version.. he was a true musician and his passing was a great loss...

  • ugh i just wish i was born in the 60s

  • @scrambledpenis be grateful you were not... like me, it would mean you are over the hill getting old and crusty...lol...

  • @scrambledpenis

No, you must wish being born in the fourties.... In the 60-ties you would be 20+ and fully apriciate it

I was born in these 60-ties and found meself wishing to be20 years older! (I would be able to stop working and retire!!!)

  • @GirlFromIpanema1966 im sorry but that would just destroy his career. This song is way to much for him and he would just butcher it

  • @GirlFromIpanema1966 That would make this song even worse than it already is.

  • i remember this song as a small child and have always loved i t

  • can't tell if GirlFromIpanema1966 is trolling...

or if she's just really stupid

  • that's a dream....

  • beautiful song... and all of us that heard it when it came out are forty our sompin' years along noww O_O but my sweetheart Lisa (and bubba 'n chloe) sent it and that makes it the best :)

    much love to you all

  • I was lucky to have a dad who introduced these guys to me when I was young. Now I love ANY music. WEll maybe not as much Simon and garfunkel.

  • Guys, this is a love song. Not necessarily about just Jesus. I can see how you would see it that way, though, as its basically S&G offerring themselves as support for whoever the are singing to.

  • @havokmusicinc this song is NOT about jesus!!!! Havok is bang on.....

  • @nage83 Well, maybe, if you read the second sentence of my comment, we would clear up this little misunderstanding between the two of us. And I am not even sure what you mean by "bang on". I like explosions, as does practically any other male in the world. I also like other definitions of the word "bang", but seeing as you are probably twelve years old, I don't want to bring up topics that are obviously beyond your understanding.

  • I honestly don't understand how it's possible for 213 people to dislike this.

  • @Jamesharris144

shut up and stop drawing attention to the dislike bar you nonce

  • @gloinstrong Yup. You are the only one that feels that way.

  • Comment removed

  • @ClassicChoons Typical catholic bullshit. believe what you want to believe , dont spread your bullshit..

  • Comment removed

  • @ClassicChoons I dont get what your saying

  • @ClassicChoons I dont get what your saying

  • Am I the only one that feels like this entire song applies to Jesus Christ? Every single word in this song came out of his mouth, but different words. All He did was comfort the sinners, the destitute, the scum of society. And what did he tell them? I will wipe every tear from your, I will die for you, and you will be with me in Paradise. I mean, COmon people.

  • @gloinstrong don't lump jesus in with Art

  • @gloinstrong I agree. Sometimes when I listen to this song I feel like it's Jesus himself singing to me, and I always hope to have a friend on earth like that. :)

  • @gloinstrong shut the fuck up faggot

  • @gloinstrong Considering they're both Jewish, I don't think it's about Jesus

  • @insectstripperpole Jesus was a Jew, man.

  • @gloinstrong Its about friendship. and your second sentence doesnt mean anything

  • @gloinstrong Well, it has a very similar message to that of much of the Christian religion (and a few other similar ones). I don't know if S&G were Christian or Catholic, so I can't say anything for sure, but I am willing to bet that while this song is consistent with Christ's teachings, it isn't actually about him.

@ the atheists here: I am not a Christian, so don't cut me down without first understanding my rhetoric. Hell, I am about as agnostic as it gets.

  • @havokmusicinc

don't know if they were christian OR catholic? catholics are christians, man.

  • @NormbrettaMod I'm agnostic. Religion doesn't have much to do with it.

  • @myrtlebox

i don't know what your personal beliefs have to do with anything. i was just stating that catholics are christians...i'm atheist.

  • @NormbrettaMod Please accept my apology. I didn't realize we were on the same page. S&G evoke very strong feelings with this song. Feelings that I think are decoupled from any belief system.

I like to think that the message of this song is from one individual to another. But that is simply my preference. I know others interpret differently. WIth all the hate in the world, it doesn't really matter.

  • @myrtlebox

oh i see, you're forgiven then. well i wasn't trying to interpret the song at all in that comment, i was just replying to someone who apparantley was...

  • Focaccia

  • I was newly in love with my wife of now forty years when this came out. What a time. Not perfect by any means; but if a singer couldn't sing, they didn't haven't a phalanx of computers to fix it. But the "business of music"(an oxymoron by any standard) was already in full swing, and the cow pie already had a royal flush. In Nashville, if you don't sound like G Brooks or R Travis you're dead. In NY or LA, if you don't appeal to teen nosepickers, you're dead. Higher and higher...

    Yeah, right...

  • 213 people haven't crossed the bridge over troubled water... :(

  • number 1 billboard song from 1970

  • @rob99rst actually "hey jude" by the beatles has been the #1 song of all time. but yes bilboard XD

  • 1970. What a year

  • Simon & Garfunkel rules.

I'm italian and i love this two fantastic man.

Grandissimi! Ho i brividi ogni volta che vi sento.. tanto ricordi.. tante passioni, tante gioie e dolori. Grazie di tutto anziani ragazzi.

  • who are these 213 gonks who dislike this beautiful song? do one!

  • The Text of the song always makes me cry-beautiful! They had all the texts from the life. Therefore, it is like I'm listening.

  • I remember when i was kid and my dad was always listening to it and because of my stupidity of my age i did not notice howmuch masterpiece this was and as i grew with the song without eventhinking about it just hearing it from my dads player. At age of14 i found a good feeling just about listening to this song but somehow still not noticing. On the16 year my dad played it again and i was always thinking what the name of the song was and then i found this video now i love it it reminds me of dad.
