With all due respect to this voice teacher, I think he's doing a really great job teaching. But if there will be a person who could teach how to sing like Whitney, then that's none other than Whitney Houston. Because she's the only one who knows how she does her singing. No matter how expert you are in music, no one can teach anybody how to sound like a particular person. Because that's a talent, it cannot be duplicated. I think the title should be instead "How to sing powerful like Whitney?"

this is a fantastic approach to working your songs. If something is too high for you transpose the key down and work it from there, "prep" the starting position of the sound with that "HUP" grunt a few times. The biggest problem is people just "go out and sing" instead of really digging deep into analyzing the song and working it. isolate every section. Good singing to you all. Great video once again.

Actually Whitney sounded her best when she sung in her natural lyric coloratura tessiura. She made her voice more dramatic in Bodyguard era, but her natural tessiura is much better to me. Whitney soprano was always rich even being a lyric. That richness is God given. No lessons could give you richness like that. Its either you have or you don't

@kmaur21 I see what you mean but I understood the video in such away that the vocal coach wanted her to get a slightly better chord closer and use less air, which will improve the tone, but not really "darken" the sound that much. I agree with you that it's not a good idea to intentionally try darken your sound too much in order to compete with the dramatic sound from other singers. Cheers.

Chris is the perfect coach. He motivates, encourages and "intimidates" you to do better!
