I think the point has to be made that while Type 1 diabetes is the most serious form of diabetes (formerly called insulin dependent or juvenile diabetes, it is autoimmune and not preventable), it is the most common form, Type 2 diabetes, that is on the rise due to obesity and poor diet. Most cases of Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or well controlled with simple lifestyle changes and a commitment to live healthier.
