I've seen some other videos where they don't use the anti-static wrist strap. Usually, these videos are from 2010 or 2011. So if I have a newer hard-drive can I just change graphics cards without it? Or is it just that the anti-static wrist band is an extra precaution?

Hey I just bought an ATI Radeon HD 5770, and I have some issues.

that you need to have no charge on you is wrong you need to have the same charge as everything inside your pc so ground yourself with the pc case this wil ground you propperly

(the rest of the video is nice and shows everything how you have to change one the only thing i mis on any of this video's is the power supply story wich is important)

I did physically installed the graphics card but then there were no on-screen steps (it didn't go with a cd). I'm guessing my computer didn't recognize it. Why is that ? can you help me?

why everyone thinks that you need to have no static energy on you you need the same charge as the case electricity can flow more than one way... so just touch the case if you are working in a pc or make a wrist band that is connected to the case... the case have the same voltage as al the components in the pc so that's why if youre the same voltage as the case there's no way to let electricity flow between you and your pc

I think u have exactly the same graphics card and I understand with the latest graphics cards you need alot more power than is generated with the stock psu that comes with it, the processor that comes with it is also a pile of shit. I am not even sure if the mother board is compatible. Bleh! Btw I am guessing you have the same comp as me. My comp is a budget one from 04 or something.

in the past, my intel has 128mb vram, but in the next day, it changes automaticly and I couldnt change it fom bios!

the driver said max. memory is 32mb..

it's not 100% safe but have worked for 14 years witout any faildure for me.

I actually think it can make it even worse and build up a charge not sure. Anyway i definitely not recommend it.

But if you touch a sink or other earthbound metal like a water element befor handeling electroniks will uncharge your static electrisity and prevent any possible damage.
