  • yall do no he is talk about heroine

  • @adorablemickey1 "Heroine" Is a female. Heroin is not brown

  • @gmccall22 lol the song is used as a pun... it could be in the sence of a women but this song came out during the time that deangelo admited to a dreug addiction. and there is such a thing of brown herioine also refered to as "Brown Sugar"

  • He is so fine!!!!He's singing to me!!!

  • FUCK YES!!! This song is STILL HOT!!!! "See, we be making love constantly

That's why my eyes are a shade blood burgundy"

  • 11 people don't know which brown sugar

  • THIS SONG CAME OUT IN 1995 WHEN I WAS IN 8TH GRADE DAMN!!!!WHERE HAVE THE YEARS GONE?!?!?!??!

  • Never get tired of this song!

  • Where are you.. D'Angelo We got ya' back.. ALWAYS! Where are ya'?.. Your VOICE is Phenomenal! You FEEL what you SING! RARE in the Industry.. Don't let these Demons Kill ya'! Live For LOVE! Brightest Blessings~

  • D' was serious with it... Awww I miss that sound.... no over singing, just chill'n and vibe'n to ya shit.

  • Its simply using drugs as a metaphor of a woman. Classic song. Classic album

  • @jelaniv drugs? no, brown sugar is a euphemism for brown ladies. rolling stones used having sex with black women as a euphemism for heroin, not the other way around.

  • @Rasbiff That made no sense.

  • @jelaniv okay so originally, brown sugar means a black, beautiful woman. Rolling Stones made a song called Brown Sugar which deals (amongst other things) with having sex with black women. However, some believe the song is really about heroin. My point is that heroin is not the "original" thing that brown sugar is a euphemism for.

  • @Rasbiff I think I get what youre saying. Then why does he reference several drugs in the song?

  • @Rasbiff dude, brown sugar means weed, not heroin.

  • @klinickaslika Well I was just talking about how many people interpreted the Rolling Stones' song "brown sugar" and yes, I do know that weed is brown and heroin is white, but anyhooo... This song is def about lurvemaking. When D'Angelo does sing about weed, he sings about weed and nothing else.

  • @Rasbiff oh, yeah, sorry, didn't read the whole comment. although, it's a little unclear whether the song is about sex or weed, you've got some lyrics that work both way, so i guess D'angelo let it up to the listener to decide what it is about. and may i say that it is a splendid song to listen in both situations.

  • @klinickaslika he meant weed ... but i feel what you are saying about the play on words.. cool!

  • Does anyone know the name of the dancer in the video with the short blonde hair?

  • @hollywoodsfuture i'm STILL trying to find out her name myself. she was very prominant in the 90's and always stood out,,,mainly becuz of the hair which was really a bold move. please let me know if you find out her name!

  • if music like thos dont make you moove, man i dont know

  • @11940ful Well Angie got him when he was real young (before brown sugar) and she's alot older and wasn't so big back then and he didn't have all the groupies on him at the time.

  • @man012able Still... he could have gotten someone that looked much better, it does not matter if he was young and not yet popular... there is a lot of guys out there that are not famous and don't have girls running after them all the time and their girlfriends are much better looking than Angie! But N-e ways... i see what u mean

  • damn i love this song i wish i could be his brown suga

  • fucking right!

  • one of my favorite songs. its one of those songs you constantly bob your head to not that rap shit now. chilling music

  • Hands down just a chill song. It was a time when Rap and R&B had meaning. Wish people in todays game had the some kind of soul the people in the past did. God this is a white boy from NJ saying this. Great song

  • @jettakid31 You right white boy from Jersey...I'm Brick City 24/7...The game ain't the same. Ain't no real love in it. No honor and a lack of respect for the pioneers who opened the doors for today's "Rap and R&B" ingrates...

  • @jettakid31 totally agree. Its a shame D'Angelo wasn't still making music to show how its done.

  • @phidelt149 : He has a new album coming out in 2012 called James River, He's on tour in Europe, there is a video out on youtube that past this weekend. Check it out

  • @baby4blue Thanks for the info! Last time I heard anything from him was an article in Vibe awhile back where he was going to treatment for alcohol I believe. Glad to see him back on his feet and am anxious to hear what he wants to share with us.

  • Giving props first to my homie D'Angelo...one of Richmond, VA's finest....and to the genius on that killer snare drum.....Ali Shaheed Muhammad....Classic....I was stationed in Hawaii when they dropped this...but word got around home that he was coming out soon...this is not Pop children....

  • A yo! I saw that chick with the BLONDe hair in a club in florida and she was all sprung out on drugs BAD. She did say she was a video vixen so I assume that that life style had got the best of her. So sad, and she was a cutie.

  • I fell in love to this song. Well on hind sigh, I fell in lust to song.

  • 10 ppl Never Got Any Brown Sugar hahaha

  • THIS BEAT IS SMOOTHER THAN A MUTHA FUCKA . :)

  • WHY IN THE HELL THEY DON"T MAKE REAL RnB WITH REAL RnB BEATS LIKE THIS NO MORE TODAY???????????????

  • Boy, and if I'm not mistaken, he was like 21 yo when this song came up... Come back, D!

  • First time I heard this song was in an episode of New York Undercover..I loved that show.

  • you misunderstood the lyrics; the song could be about Heroine (Nicknamed Brown Sugar) Or Women (Dark women)... He Said She(Brown Sugar) has a SISTER by the name of Chocolate Thai. Chocolate thai is the sister of brown sugar... he means their either both drugs or both beautiful dark women (Chocolate thai Yum Yum!)

  • song could be either about weed (chocolate thai) or women (black women), so either or in my opinion

  • The video is so cool.........D' is one of the smoothest borhters out there.... Not to mention, one of the most missed. Can't wait for his newest work...

  • I love how this video completes the song.

  • Chocolate Thai mmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Listening to a little D'Angelo...Brown Sugar

  • I'm 18 years old, but I wish I was 20 in the 90's !! :(

I hate the new generation of everything !

  • @ArtanKofficial most definitely!!! #RETWEET

  • If Maxwell can come back strong like he did, I know D'Angelo can as well...

  • @662chillin Yeah, but Maxwell wasn't gone very long and he purposely took a break to observe life or something like that. Deangelo is battling some serious issues and has been doing so for a minute. He needs a lot of love and some serious guidance right now. I'm rooting for him. I miss his music for sure.

  • @blkazn77 8 years is a long time and i think he will be back better then ever.el debarge was gone much longer he came back out with a hot album and then went to rehab. i think d is taking his time and getting his life right. in time he will come back

  • iLike. Summer of 95' classic! "Let me tell you 'bout this girl, maybe I shouldn't.... I met her in Philly and her name was Brown Sugar"

  • .

    .

3:12 KIM PORTER (Diddy's baby moma) on the left, probably looking for a next baby daddy / victim at the time

    .

    .

  • a fan of d'angelo's since i heard this album. every song on this album is the bomb & i am listening to it until the cd is not a cd anymore

  • OMG IT REALLY IS ABOUT HEROINE LISTEN!! HE SAID WE BE MAKING LOVE CONSTENTLY THAT'S WHY MY EYES ALWAYS BLOOD BURGENDY!! GOSH DUMMIES!!

  • @PrincessAmandaTV

    .

    .

No sweetie, u r the dumb one here!!!!This song is about BLACK WOMEN!!!! I think u r mistaking with the Rolling Sttones who also have a song called Brown Sugar. THEIR song is about heroine

    .

    .

  • @goyavesETmangues No Need to argue. I'm not dumb at all. I understand poetry. If you look uo the lyrics, is symptoms are those of a drug addict. He's speaking of that and a woman but disguising it to sound innocent. Oh yeah and what is her big sister's name again? Yeah thats what I thought. Is it the name of a woman or of a plant that you smoke? Who is dumb now??? Not ME!!

  • @goyavesETmangues nah, like the dude was saying, it has dual meaning. Just like tupacs me and my girlfriend which was about his gun.

This brown sugar is less blatant, but still about sistaz and weed.

  • @PrincessAmandaTV before you call someone a dummy he is definetly talking about marjy jane not heroine. chocolate thai and sharing. you dont share heroine you share blunts.

  • @mjjcng8958 yea but the street name for heroine is brown sugar and whi says it cant be passed?

  • @PrincessAmandaTV ok another case in point chocolate thai, it is a strain of mary janes. lookk it up and you'll see this song is about mary jane cannabis weed

  • This is about the drug called brown sugar.

  • Another strong talent lost to the streets.......what a lost.

  • @Metra1974 We didnt lose him. Have you heard he's back in shape and is almost done with the new album?

  • @PrincessAmandaTV Well I can't wait to see his return it will be well received im sure......He will go straight to the top of the charts.........

  • stay off them trees yo. the streets need you. sh*t is dead out here...

  • This song is about ganja

  • I hate to break to y'all, but this track is about Black women.

  • Stupid people say this song is about heroin when its obviously about weed. "I met her in Philly" Besides heroin makes people get all sucked up, have you seen how fat this mutherfucker got, definatley smoking eating like a motherfucker after smoking weed.

  • @z8adavid yeah but the name of heroine is brown sugar and that was his drug of choice.

  • i want some of his brown sugar

  • MY HOMIE!!

  • no wonder this this is Classic - I see Raphael Saadiq on that bass(hidiing under the hat) & Ali Shaheed Muhammad on drums

  • This song has such a classic, old school feel to it. The lyrics, the production, the video itself are in perfect harmony.

D'Angelo is awesome. As opposed to today, where 'swagger' is asssociated with untalented hacks, D'Angelo in his song was the epitome of swagger. Cold demeanour, subdued aggression yet an engaging and charismatic personality.

And he's only an R&B singer! An indicator of how times have changed. An R&B singer of yesteryears looks infinitely tougher than today's rappers.
