@brad99z28 I hated it. It was on the car when I bought it. I hacked that shit off and ran dumps before the axle. It was tacky looking and had horrible ground clearance.
Fuck that Firebird is fast! I can't say I like the idle of it too well, kinda ugly sound, but it sounds so fucking awesome at WOT! This car would definitely crush a Lambo or Ferari.
cool, where didi you buy the cam from and are u haveing any trouble with ur rear end? people say these 10 bolt rears dont hold up to long with 400+ hp at the wheels
The cam is from TTP. Tune Time Performance in New Jersey. My rear end is a stock 10 bolt. It's never had the cover off. People break 10 bolts when they launch too hard at the track on drag radials or slicks, when they do a 1st gear punch on the street and hook, or when they do a burnout or something and get wheel hop. If you drive it with regular street tires and act like you have some sense they will last a long time. I've never pushed my past 1.8x 60ft times at the track on drag radials.
cool just wondering i hear alot people say that these rears need to be replaced when boosting hp to the wheels, im going to do a head an cam swap and trying to get infoon how to get the most hp for the money, i want to be around the 400-450 range at the wheels, so far im looking into ls6 heads from z06 and a comp cams 503 dont know if it will work well in ls1 alot of people are running it in lt1 engines that why i asked about ur cam, thanks for the info, im still in the process of gathering info
At 400-450 at the wheels it will definitely be your weak link and it WILL break eventually. I was just saying that mine is proof that you can make it last if you don't do a few of the things that abuse it the most. The rear end is the next thing on my list of mods.
The heads are Patriot Performance stage II LS6 heads. They are a 243 casting that has been ported. I didn't have to do anything to them for this cam. You can go into the low 240's duration and ~.620 lift on a stock style head without running into piston to valve clearance issues. This cam is a nice bit smaller than that. I don't know what the cam would gain by itself as it was installed with the heads. 450rwhp with shitty long tubes and an LS6 intake,
Very rarely. That exhaust was on the car when I bought it. I replaced it less than a month after I took this video. It now has the same Kook's catted X-pipe with 3"x12.5" Dynomax bullets dumped right before the axle. I have much better clearance now. Almost as much as stock.
LS heads have a different bolt pattern, port, and combustion chamber size. There are lots of SBC heads out there that can flow about the same as LS6 heads. Mine flow ~300cfm intake.
Niiiiice! What cam do you have in that? Sounds really good...I am building a 5.7L from the ground with 11:1 compression and i need/want a cam like that! Going to put LS6 heads on it.
Ive got a 99 Formula running 12.20s with headers, 3.73s and a 2800 stall... I have LS6 heads sitting here that i got ported (they flow a little better than the patriots) and a 229/231, 612/617 112 cam waiting to go in, ill be hoping for 11.50s afterwards
im glad you got the 6-speed too, it bothers me 80% of camaro/f-bird videos on here are automatic...i dont understand the point of having an auto unless you throw a nice stall converter on it, plus its no fun....nice ride
IMO you can be pretty consistent with a 6 speed F-body until you hit low 11's/upper 10's. After that consistency takes a shit but it is still more fun IMO.
yea it was supposed to be attached to the below comments...and i understand why drag cars have auto's and the big advantage to them with conisistency and quick track times....ive just always still preferd manuals
Trust me, there are no true advantages. Not at the power levels that a turbo LS-anything makes. A properly setup auto will always spool faster and make power sooner. But I still like doing the work myself.
Meh, I hit remove instead of reply. But yes, you are correct about the stall. With a proper stall, 2-step, and trans brake you can leave the line at anywhere between 3 and 10psi (depending on the size of the turbo(s)) on an LS engine.
Bad ass car man, hopefully mine will be there soon just have to save up the money, Im probably going to just have my heads Port and polished with a vegeance racing cam 228/230/588/592, Im hoping that will put me at about 400 to the wheels through an A4, what do you think? Anyway man you be careful out there and take care of that car man.
With that cam, a good vengeance tune, and a Good port job on your heads (I'm assuming you still have the LS6 intake and 241 heads that came on the 02's) you should put down right at 400 rwhp with the converter locked. Take dyno numbers with a grain of salt. The mph it makes at the track tells the real story.

definitely not much skill in slamming your foot to the floor and thats it(unless your manualy shifting)

I was powershifting (manual) in the video. If your referring to our comments below we are talking about consistency in a drag car.

I'm the same way. This car is going to be front mount turbo one day. And it will still be manual, despite the obvious advantages.
FMX891807 3 years ago
Nice but unless your straight drag-racing you know what they say about the advantage of having a manual on a turbocharged vehicle
