Difficult situation with the laughter, take it out and you ruin the whole premise of the show. But, having it like it is means that the audience is laughing at things that, in Deans mind, aren't funny yet he still sets them up like punch lines for the audience thus affecting the believability of the character.

For me though, I couldn't care less. Funny is funny.

This is a brilliant suggestion, actually. There was one in the works and they'd cast Gary Dourdan from CSI in the role, but the remaining members of Thin Lizzy won't greenlight the script as is because it focuses too much on Lynott's drug use and not enough on his music (and good on them for it), so it's been shelved. If they ever give it another go, RA would get the accent right, he's got better chops, and he looks a hell of a lot more like him.

I worked on this show. It was filmed with a live studio audience. They did two run throughs and build the final show out of those two. That's how they wanted to do it hence the laughter cannot be removed.
