@ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD That guitar has more character than anything you can pick up straight from the assembly line, I have a telecaster now but until im in my 50's and the paint is faling off it, it will still be a baby. No other guitar quite looks like his because of the wear and tear of time. Dont you look at some guitars barely held together and wonder if each different scar has a different story to tell? Eg. Fun Fact: Rory Gallaghers Stratocasters paint wore away from his extra acidic sweat!

Stay away from an Epi Les Paul because they don't have good resale value. An American Tele does. And if you are gonna buy a Gibson because you share a last name, I hope you are joking because that is the dumbest reason to invest in a guitar that I ever heard.

A Les Paul and a Tele are two completely different animals! Both are suited for lead or rhythm. But honestly I've never played a guitar that wasn't!

Basically do you like the Tele's twangy popish tone with low amounts of distortion or do you like the Les Paul's dark low end with distortion that go's for days?

You can make either do anything you want it's just a mater of where you want to start and how many effects you want to use!!!

@frankiearg05 sorry bro, most great guitars run above $500. go to guitar specialty stores, i found an amazing used (in more or less perfect condition) white fender stratocaster for $300, so you could definatley find great guitars at affordable prices. anything less than $250 is probably gonna be a junk guitar though. stay far away from squier :)

@frankiearg05 You can get chinese copies or replicas. Some of them are even better than Epiphone, and on par with Mexican fenders. Try SX guitars form rondo music. They are awesome. I have one Les Paul vintage sunburst, and I am gonna buy tele. ;) Really awesome guitars. :D
