  • It looks like a crossover. Jeep did away with the 4.0 inline 6cyl because it was too reliable. They want you to have to buy parts or a new jeep. They have pussyed the jeeps all down. my cadillac could drive over this shit. so gay

  • @PoopFartShitStain Jeep is appealing to a wider customer base. Most people don't know the difference between a straight 6 and a V6. Everyone is using a V6, and Jeep has to follow suit in order to compete. I'm not saying the V6 is necessarily better- we had a 96 Laredo with the straight 6, and it was bulletproof.

    I don't think they've pussied it down. As I said in my other comment, there's a natural evolution of SUVs, and Jeep's in line with other manufacturers. This Jeep seems very capable.

  • @speedvaxer It is not, this is a promotional video so you have to realize that they are not going to do anything challenging with this jeep. Anyone who knows anything about engines would prefer the old 4.0L inline six. They are not following suit, they are pussying the thing down. They don't want to have a bulletproof engine, they want you to service it at a jeep dealer to keep the money rolling- this is Chrysler and don't ever forget that. They will ruin the jeep name.

  • @PoopFartShitStain If you look at other manufacturers, we can contend that SUVs in general over the past 30-40 years have been "pussied down" as you claim. And yes, of course manufacturers want you to continue servicing your car- that is after all where a lot of the revenue flow is derived from. What's your point, then? Of course I'd rather go off roading in a 94 over this new 2011 one, but this new "pussied down" GC is following the natural progression of the automobile.

  • @JamDecks I have an 01 Laredo, and I think this is the natural evolution in terms of SUB styling. All SUVs are starting to look softer. Look at the new Explorer vs. the original, and this 2011 vs. a 94.

  • Looks like Chrysler did a great job on this one. I  hope it's a hit for them and they sell a million of them. I own a first generation JGC [a 1996 model] and while it's primitive compared to this new version, it's still a good reliable vehicle that can take me just about anywhere. Maintain a Jeep well and it won't let you down.

  • Somebody here said that the Grand Cherokee is not as capable as the Range Rover. Well news Flash...if it wasn't for the Jeep, there wouldn't be Land Rover. Land Rover was inspired by Jeep,plus Jeep has been there,don't that! And for those to say that the Jeep can't do what the Land Rover,Ranger Rover does, probably never drove a Jeep. Both are great suvs, but for value, I would rather go with the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Just like everyone has been trying to copy the performance and handling of the BMW 3 series. And plenty have gotten close or surpassed BMW. But when that happens they come back with something better, and have everyone scrampling back to try again.

  • i have a 95 cherokee sport that does 0-60 in the low 5's with 109,000 miles. my mercury cougar 400 v8 has (well had, untill i seized the engine) 475,381.9 miles, WITHOUT being rebuilt. it had the oil changed and a tune-up every 10,000 miles and was garage kept. it still ran strong but the bad con rod bearings seized up, still had good compression and still had a lot of power.

  • I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee that's at 210,000 miles and still going. In fact I just put a little over 100 miles on it last night. It's probably been through more shit than most land rovers. Actually I have yet to even see a land rover in my neck of the woods, probably because they cost too much to ram around in dirt road country. The most popular vehicle where I live are used Grand Cherokees.. Don't go on a jeep vid to argue that LRs are because most vehicles have their upsides.

  • @rangerover06sc I had 05 grand cherokee with hemi and QDII. I am part of large club and we took few of those in water and mud. Its front and rear elsd works great.

    I Agree that landrover has much nicer interior but i dont like the exterior od LR. Both of those brands work good on and off road , i guess every brand has its own customers. i preffer Grand cheroke , You Land Rover.

    New GCH has adjustable suspension like LR but has only on ELSD , but for the money i would not buy anything else

  • Really want to drive an Overland w the Hemi.. Even if I love the thing I just dont see myself buying one in it's 1st year of production.. I got a '99 Ltd when they first came out and it had tons of problems.. The worst being rear end failure. It might strike someone crazy to think I would go from a 100 series LC "down" to a GC but Im not brand blind. If the new GC is a good vehicle and I like it i wont hesitate getting one. The interior looks quite nice and overall looks 2 b very enticing.

The U.S Army in ( 1942 i do believe ) Paid Ford to Make a 4x4 for them and they came Up with Jeep the First TRUE 4x4. it look ford 2 year to Finally come up with a 4x4. The Jeeps name was General purpose or GP but the Soldiers named it Jeep. this is a little history of Jeep but if you want to know more just look up WW2 Jeeps.

    I was going to buy an Explorer, but since they've finished totally emasculating that once great Ford by making it a FWD 4 cylinder crossover, I'm thinking of getting this Grand Cherokee. Too bad it only has 5 speeds though.

  • @WedidLandONtheMOON ---Land Rover dosen't need to be trail rated the trail rated logo is just a sales campaign it dosen't mean anything.That jeep dosn't even look like it would do well off road. Look at the LR Defender it has as much ground clearence as a Hummer H1 can ford 3ft of water stock and it knocks out anything in it's class. But Land Rover did copy off Jeep once because they didn't sell Jeeps in Britain so he saw a new market. Jeeps are more reliable and cheaper to get parts for.

  • Jeep just copyed of Land Rover big time they had that for 5 years I thought it was trade marked called terrain response.Land Rover also had a saying as slow as possable as fast as necessary no it's becoming Jeeps new saying.Land Rover made the discovery in 89 which had a steped roof which is now on the commander. And in 1948 Land Rover was the first suv to have 2 sunroof's which almost every car today now has.

I will say that when the redesigned the wrangler I was saying that it was gonna be junk, I mean I thought it was awful to even have power windows on a Wrangler.   • It sure is too bad that the Grand Cherokee has been neutered with independent suspension. If I wanted an independent front & rear Crossover, I would shop for an IFS/IRS Crossover. If I needed a durable off-road 4x4 with a proper set of solid axles front and rear, I would shop for a Jeep.

    To whom is Jeep trying to appeal with this?

    I want to replace my 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited, but this new G.C. is NOT an adequate replacement. I will NOT buy a Jeep without solid axles.

  • @ndtubedude15 dude chill...I don't have a Rubicon. But I'd like to be able to buy a Rubicon Trail-capable Grand Cherokee to replace my Rubicon Trail-capable 1998 Grand Cherokee. However, the downgrades to the new G.C. have rendered it incapable of making it through this trail (or most other mountain trails) more than once without major body and chassis damage.

    Sure, I could buy a Wrangler instead. But that's my point: The G.C. used to be a Jeep. Now it's just another impotent mallcrawler.

    I could not imagine how much it would cost to lift this thing. Honestly I am really sad about this jeep. I drive a 93ZJ with 21" of ground clearance and still wish I could be taller. Also as stated earlier, with all these new gadgets and gizmos there is no way you are going to be able to break something and simply fix it on the trail.

    I know that jeep has always wanted this vehicle to be a happy little grocery getter. but really??

  • Can we get a SIMPLE, Wranglerbased, SUV again? All the gee-whiz crap really drives up the cost and complexity of a vehicle. I don't really think you get any gain from it and you certainly can't fix some of this stuff in the field with baling wire, zip ties and duct tape to get you home.

    To be a Jeep, don't you NEED the simple, proven engineering that the brand was known for? The past 10 years or so has seen good things happen to the Wrangler and questionable things happen to any other models
