Of course it was a popularity contest. It's a reality show. What else do you people expect? Mario has dancing background so he was already a dancer so people already expect him to perform well. But Emmitt evolved from an everyday man to quite a dancer. People noticed that more!

Perhaps she didn't have much of a fan base in the first place or they don't watch DWTS. Another thing about reality shows is that it's not very predictable. Perhaps the pone lines were down or something.

i still think mario lopez should have won. because his freestyle was so cool! emmitt was good but he has a ton of fans unlike mario. to people who voted for him it was obviously a popularity contest rather than a dancing contest.
