I bought one of those and came to hate it. If you set it to lean, the chain will dry out because the scottoiler oil isn't adhesive enough to stick to the chain properly, when you set it to have a good lubricated chain it sprays oil all over making a hell of a mess of your bike. The chain guard, rear end, center stand, kick stand are always covered in oil, dripping when you stop making a mess of your garage. Use good dedicated adhesive, sticky chain oil and mind your fingers doing it...
Scottoiler no bueno for a supermoto or dual sport. There is a reason to not have it on a dirt/motard/dual sport. Same reason I don't use chain wax. For a street bike, Scottoiler makes sense. If you're going to be playing in the dirt/dust/mud... not so much. Kind of a bummer.

Funny you mention that because I know the guy who cut the tips of his fingers off. Walked into my class at college and the pictures were up on the projector and the guy was sitting in the room with his hand all wrapped up telling what happened.
its a good idea, but in my opinion it just solves a tiny hassle that can cause you even more. taking 20 min to clean, lube, and check tension is not a big deal. 40 min tops to do a quck run down of fluids, tires, and other self maintanence is well worth the time than a few hundred dollars for a cool gizmo that could possibly cause more damge than its worth.
The ScottOiler system you're talking about is really, really cool. I think that if I had one, I would probably rave about it on YouTube as well, sponsored or not :)

I guess that if every bike had automatic chain oiler as stock, the chain prices would go up or quality would be reduced.

I had one in the past and only because the bike I bought had one. yes it did its job, but I certainly wouldnt spend all that money on one. A cheaper option for those without a centre stand is to buy a paddock stand which will do the same job. A quick spray every 400 miles and jobs a guddon. Simples.

I dont really see the need for a scottoiler... I CLEAN and lube my chain every weekend. sure its more work but I enjoy working on my bike. btw if you use dupont teflon chain lube it works amazingly... no fling at all check it out.

Wow...Scottoiler....Why the fuck don't I have this thing yet?
I waste a good hour of my life having to oil the damn chain on my bike. Getting the oil, the cloth, lifting the damn thing up, oiling it, turning the wheel, wipping off excess oil, putting the bike down, putting away the oil, throwing away the oily rag, cleaning my hands.
Then I look up at the clock and oh, A hour or so of my life is gone! hip hip fuckin' a!
This thing will make my life so much easier...

How expensive are these? And where did the statistic come from that it makes chains last 10x longer( the company)? It is a cool sounding product, but it honestly seems cheaper in the long run to buy a spray can and do it yourself every now and then. It’s kinda like buying an expensive devise that constantly makes sure the tires psi is Always correct. Sure that would be cool and all but jesus that is completely unnecessary…

Like the 68 BSA, my 65 BSA had the same simple set-up stock. My 77 Harley had the same set-up giving people lots of fodder to say our bikes always leak. I got tired of saying it is supposed to drip.

Good reason not to have a scottoilers - the stupid thing often doesn't work, stops pumping, etc. and then it's easy to get oil flung over rear tyre.
