This is a Drifters song from the early 60s and The Drifters did it best. The Misfits put their spin on it and so did Lou Reed. It's a great song no matter who sings it but Lou Reed puts a sad spin on it. Kind of like how Billie Holiday sang... maybe because they were both junkies with great talent

Even though this is the original, I don't really like it. The singer sounds like he is singing off key and his voice sounds unenthusiastic. I think The Drifters and The Misfits are the only two groups/bands that did this song perfectly...
I was very intrigued when I seen this was a Lou Reed version of 'This Magic Moment' but it's fairly dissapointing. :( Could've been great with him singing it.
Ben E. King and the Drifters may have the best version, but it is not "the original" since he/they didn't write it. The song was written by 2 Jewish guys from Brooklyn,
it was written by lyricist Doc Pomus and pianist Mort Shuman.
I think that although they dont wrote it, in that time that happened often, i mean, professional composers wrote songs all the time for several bands (a lot of the motowns) even "like a virgin" was not written by Madonna. So is ok if somebody says that the original is the drifters version, because it was wrote it for them, and all no-performer composer do it all the time, if you specify each case, you will never end.
Indeed many 50's and 60's bands didnt compose a song in all his career.
For somebody that hates this version so much, loudasss sure spends alot of time on this page.. If you don't like it, stop coming back. BTW the original is to cheesy for me, but i wont be talking shit to the people who like it, i guess i have a life.
life? what do you do for a living, life-haver? looks like you're yet another hater of the"loudasss"... shaa! hate on hater...! yadda-da-da-know-what i'm talkinabout?...
wanna see some kool shit, life-haver? check out jonbloww then go kiss some asses... hwaaa-ha ha hahh aaaaaa!!
I'd just like to know who sang this stuff. It has some good aspects to it (music wise), but they fucked up a good and beautiful song. Would they have sung about anything else and had their own lyrics to this music, it might be a hit.
by the way, Sounds like Dylan,or petty, but I think it might be Cake... (?)
omygonzales thought that I thought the original song was sung by Dylan, petty, or Cake.
I should rephrase and say I think that this cover/re-make of 'This Magic Moment' was sung by someone that sounds like Bob Dylan,or Tom Petty, but is most likely a group called "Cake".
If you want to hear THE ORIGINAL...
look for: the Drifters, Ben E. King,This Magic Moment.... (thanx anyway, omy)
Sorry ... that reply wasn't for you ... anyway it sounds like that (something like cake or dylan) ... but I think that I just wanna keep up with this version
By the way I had heard the original song already, and I do really appreciate what Lou Reed did with it...
Indeed it is some kind of hommage to the frency photographer Sophie Calle and my intention is to make what I call "musical postcard" that I insert on my blog. Is is clear enough ?

La versión original de This Magic Moment de los Drifters es nauseabunda. Lou Reed redime esta canción. Cuánta tristeza. Cuánta furia.

agree.. so special that its quite difficult to play and sing it in LR style

Pomus & Shuman were professional songwriters . There are no recordings by them
- they wrote music & lyrics .Therefore the original recorded version is by Ben E King & The Drifters.
