naw do it how you feel and mix with the beat on it dont matter what it sounds like solo! you not making a acapella track your using a beat so with that being said mix (eq compress pan finding levels) all with the beat playing! some times when i eq i might solo it out if im looking for the low mids!
All of you prove one thing to me !!!!! This is a totally subjective art form, and almost all of you have a different way to mix. Basically dont be quick to disagree and listen becauz everyone basically are making some agreeable points as well as some disagreeable ones. LET NY MAN DO HIS THING !!! Thanx for the Tut !!!
And on protools I just record it perfect threw one time snap it to bar(put on beat) take out all my breathes... Then after that I open up a new track copy my verse and paste it on there with a pitch shift of 38 and pan it about 35 or 38.... The same thing EMINEM does.
I'd say it's a "up to you" thing. But generally when i make my music, i make the backingtrack (the music first) then i'll record the vocals. Bounce the vocals to a single track.
Add that track over the backingtrack, easiest way for me anyway.
i disagree..at least mix the lead vocal track with the beat playing.. otherwise the vocals will end up too loud or too low.. and you'll just end up having to mix it again
@slycooper601 i think by mixing he means eq'ing, compressions, de-essing etc... yes levels are also part of mixing but you can group your vox tracks once you like how they interact and then bring them all up simultaneously.
Thats bullshit your supposed to mix vocals on top of the beat to get the vocals into what is called "the pocket" of the mix. You'll never get good levels trying it this way. Your gonna end up mixing everything while acapella, your gonna unmute the beat and still change levels of the vocals. Dont believe me? try it this guys is not an expert at all.
@Diverseonthetube Or you actually write a melody and some harmonies to go with 17 tracks of percussion loops, or would really that stop it sounding like every other boom dope shizel track out there.
@jamminjimmy4545 LMAO if you went to first grade you would know that you start sentences with capitol letters.... NO DONT TALK STOP YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY YOUR LAME THUMBS UP JUST BECAUSE I"M AN A*S HOLE!!! YIPIIIEEE

t.i. doesnt seem to use any adlibs. but with tools like Pro Tools these days, you can match up the adlibs so you can't even tell they're there. vocal editing.
That's not true... It all depends on the rapper you're talking about... I LOVE when Kweli adlibs and he's one of the best, if not THE best out there... Sure, he'd still be great without them, but it's like icing on a cake =) Actually, Eminem is a GREAT example of a master of adlibs. Listen to "my name is", or "Without me," and you'll see what I'm talking about...
TUPAC use to double his whole verse rather than just doubling certain words as reg adlibs but tupac was a master at matching the energy an sound each take so what you might think is one layer one take is several stacked .
This guy is NOT an expert! All his videos suck.He generalizes everything> How about some real audio examples of his "expert mixes". What a waste of time.
ther are a few different techniques - you can duplicate a prercorded track and offset it by a split second- you can over dub the entire verse so that it is an exact replica of the first- you can even get a tube pre amp or plugin of one- depends if you want thick or wide- they are 2 different things- i usually record 2 tracks the same and pan one about 20% in one direction- if the tracks are identical it will sound thick and somewhat wide
What i do .. I do about 3 to 4 tracks .. the i put 1 in the middle and 2 paned left right to about 50% to 90% .. i personally put more than 3 tracks .. cuz i do harmonies ..

adlib tracks are for people who can't rap.
you know you suck at rapping if you need 4 layers of your vocals to make your existence sound more interesting than it really is.
Eminems song role model has NO adlib tracks
Tupacs song Cant C Me has NO adlib tracks
im not gonna sit hear and list all of them.
