@mscynergie This is far from grunge. Grunge was a fashion trend, not a music scene. Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc. are all great bands, but they all have very distinct and varied styles. Lumping them all together with grunge is ignorant and offensive to the genius of the bands.
@vcough I beg to differ. This style or genre is not a "lumping" of bands together, but a way the music scene became because of a very distinct style of music that emerged from Seattle and various other locations. Just the way the Rolling Stones and The Beegees shortly went a bit disco during the 70s then changed back to a more rock genre. I am a musician so I know a bit about it.
The way I see it, is that Grunge is like Jazz - it has many variations and brilliant artists within it's main theme. Grunge's main theme is that it was of a certain time, place, and attitude to life, music and popular culture. They are all highly distinctive, but the rawness, the actual creative talent. Plus, it makes it a lot easier to find related artists - it is a great marketing them, IMO. If you're going to find TAD, it's most likely through Nirvana.
@TheGuyFromThatMovie Are you fucking kidding? It's Grunge Music too, its obvious that will remember nirvana to some people, I think so too... There's no mental disturbance on anyone... Hear the guitar, and compare it with some songs of nirvana, maybe some of nevermind, but its more like In utero... Hear it and then tell me...
One of my favorites from Soundgarden. Really unorthadox, I think thats why I love it. It starts out like a chant and the heavy rock sound joins in. Not too many bands could write something like this.
@calyppou have you tried the guitar pro tabs they are usually always right i know that the tuning is CFCGBE I used to have the tab book for it I wish I knew what happened to that book
Soundgarden!! Mr. Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepard.........I love Soundgarden because they were all about nothing but their music...........no matter what others thought about it.....they started out a band and ended a band...........and nothing else......
soundgarden is effectively heavy metal. nirvana is grunge, and the band that pioneered it. if your eardrum confuses you, turn down the decibals. i know from personal experience.
@LAK1NG5rule WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude if anything Nirvana owes there success to Soundgarden. Soundgarden was the first major band to get a deal. They were sigened way before Nirvana.

@Commit6969 - I said Soundgarden kicks Nirvana's butt as a piece of art. It's just that Soundgarden were much more experimental, technical, and the lyrics more substantial.
@EccentricRichard Couldnt agree with u more . Just read a comment calling Cris Cornell Gods boy choir gone bad . The most amazing voice Ive ever heard . Nobody can do a Soundgarden song . On Temple of the Dogs Cris Cornell makes Eddie Vedder sound like a girl , dont get me wrong but We must give bow along with others to Cris Cornells pipes .
@Commit6969 Because they do. Do you have musical taste? Then all you have to do is open your fucking ears and hear that Soundgaraden blows Nirvana out of the water.
@Commit6969 It's Soundgarden, not Sound Garden. And he's right, Soundgarden is better than Nirvana. They were known before Nirvana was a band. People on the Nirvana bandwagon, like yourself, disagree.
Amazing. What a work of 'sonic art'. From the opening dark riff straight through the charged conclusion, I felt captivated by this song. Chris' vocal harmonies with himself (the lower and higher register combined) was a skillful choice; really sounded like 2 different people! The drums carrying along the mournful, haunting vibe. The bass delivers an incredible pulsating feel. The lead guitar work is forceful and searching (much like the storyline) for answers and meaning. Never loses its touch.
Chris Cornell must have really struggled with religion - I mean a lot of his songs have religious imagery and a sort of disapointment in the fact that religion hasn't lived up to what it should be.
4 sum strange reezun, thiz song makez me feel better...perhaps itz tha lowness of it and how soothing yet acid chris's vocal are. shit, thiz songz a fuckin masterpiece
On the meaning of the song singer Chris Cornell had this to say, when asked if he writes a lot of songs on acid he responded, "No, but '4th of July' is pretty much about that day. You wouldn't get that if you read it. It doesn't read like, 'Woke up, dropped some acid, got into the car and went to the Indian reservation'."
This song reminds me of the darkest pit of hopeless dispair....I love every minute of it! This is my close second favorite Soundgarden song, next to Black Hole Sun!
only cornell knows exactly what his lyrics mean..everyone takes something different out of it..he said it himself..what you get from the lyrics is what you get..they are yours..whatever images they create..they're yours..doesn't mean thats what he is saying in his songs

kid, u werent in the conversation, so stay out of it, and dont even think about talking music with me, my knowledge would overwhelm that tiny wart resting on ur shoulders that you call ur head. Ur nothing but narrow-minded backwoods trash. By the way, Heresy is about confronting and questioning Christianity. The lyrics describe how Christianity is used to control people and how it contradicts itself, WHOS THE DUMBASS NOW!?! haha nice try kiddo. ;)
ur just a fuckin teenager, which means you know "SHIT" about music. SG was one of the most talented bands in decades, show some respect u little punk kid.
and ur a fuckin douche, old fagget who has absolutely no life. maybe u can take that stick u have wedged up ur vagina, and beat urself in the head wit it. ur fuckin annoying.
oh wait a minute, wrong person. ur apparently 28, yet u talk like a child, wow, im truly speechless, grow up, act ur fuckin age buddy, and stop polluting the comment section with ur bullshit, people actually want to comment on this vid., not dumb 28 year old losers. act ur age, ok?
oh yes, i forgot, the fake year i put during registration for youtube gives u the impression i'm 28. right on man. all i know is that ur the fagget wit the really gay channel as if cornell was ur personal fuck buddy. LOL! get a life kid.
dont think thats what their saying. Chris is a cathoic and even if he isnt perfect he would sing about jesus not being resurrected. I think its saying hes buried by the minds of the people who "dont want to speak about the spreading fire"
Don't take that verse too literal. I think that it's saying that during dark times, people tend to throw out or bury their religion. Even though Jesus is still there for them with an open smile, they bury him away because they are scared. But that's just my opinion.
this is kinda like Soundgarden's version of Into The Void, although they did a cover of that(limited edition of Badmotorfinger) slow, sludgey, and kicks ass 8 days a week
light a roman candle and hold it in your hand.......

kid, u werent in the conversation, so stay out of it, and dont even think about talking music with me, my knowledge would overwhelm that tiny wart resting on ur shoulders that you call ur head. Ur nothing but narrow-minded backwoods trash. By the way, Heresy is about confronting and questioning Christianity. The lyrics describe how Christianity is used to control people and how it contradicts itself, WHOS THE DUMBASS NOW!?! haha nice try kiddo. ;)

dont think thats what their saying. Chris is a cathoic and even if he isnt perfect he would sing about jesus not being resurrected. I think its saying hes buried by the minds of the people who "dont want to speak about the spreading fire"
the72peanut 3 years ago 2
you very well may be right.i just wanted to shake a few satan-devil worshippers up.i like chris.great voice.shalom
blutobelushi 3 years ago 2
Don't take that verse too literal. I think that it's saying that during dark times, people tend to throw out or bury their religion. Even though Jesus is still there for them with an open smile, they bury him away because they are scared. But that's just my opinion.
Mygoodeyeclosed 3 years ago
I agree! The song actually refers to how many people have put religion aside as it doesn't mean much to them!
