  • light a roman candle and hold it in your hand.......

  • Grunge at its best.

  • @mscynergie This is far from grunge. Grunge was a fashion trend, not a music scene. Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc. are all great bands, but they all have very distinct and varied styles. Lumping them all together with grunge is ignorant and offensive to the genius of the bands.

  • @vcough I beg to differ. This style or genre is not a "lumping" of bands together, but a way the music scene became because of a very distinct style of music that emerged from Seattle and various other locations. Just the way the Rolling Stones and The Beegees shortly went a bit disco during the 70s then changed back to a more rock genre. I am a musician so I know a bit about it.

  • @vcough

The way I see it, is that Grunge is like Jazz - it has many variations and brilliant artists within it's main theme. Grunge's main theme is that it was of a certain time, place, and attitude to life, music and popular culture. They are all highly distinctive, but the rawness, the actual creative talent. Plus, it makes it a lot easier to find related artists - it is a great marketing them, IMO. If you're going to find TAD, it's most likely through Nirvana.

  • One of the best songs...ever

  • I hope the world ends on 12/21/2012 in a firey blaze, just so I can BLAST this song and sit back and smile.

  • @FoolThrottleRacing

I hate to break it to you, but the end of the world is just basicly a Meyan new year....

  • I really like this song, remind me to nirvana

  • @laranaenelcoco ....you fail at life. I like both bands, but the idea that this song reminds you of Nirvana suggests mental disturbance on your part.

  • @TheGuyFromThatMovie Are you fucking kidding? It's Grunge Music too, its obvious that will remember nirvana to some people, I think so too... There's no mental disturbance on anyone... Hear the guitar, and compare it with some songs of nirvana, maybe some of nevermind, but its more like In utero... Hear it and then tell me...

  • this song is amazing

  • listening this on 4th of july

  • with nirvana's negative creep and sludge factory of aic, this song is really sludge metal.

  • I dont get it, you're supposed to hold roman candles in your hand...

  • I like Nirvana better, but god damn soundgarden is also the shit, as well as AIC

  • i think that song is about lonliese

  • One of their best songs musically and lyrically

  • nirvana+stp+aic+pearl jam=1/2 as good as soundgarden

  • @SuperInsanity1 Pull aic out of that sentence and I agree.

  • One of my favorites from Soundgarden. Really unorthadox, I think thats why I love it. It starts out like a chant and the heavy rock sound joins in. Not too many bands could write something like this.

  • It has a vibe to eyehategod, like melodic sludge, punk in slow motion, as phill anselmo said. Best song with the day I tried to live of the album

  • Guitar's solo is very close on style and sounding with Eric Clapton's early works

  • @arbinotik not at all..its in the style of soundgarden

  • This song is perfect......O_o

  • este tema es EXCELENTE!

    ojala vengan a la Argentina

  • never mind those tabs, those are wrong as shit. i tried to follow them and made me shiver with horror, not a single note was right

  • @calyppou have you tried the guitar pro tabs they are usually always right i know that the tuning is CFCGBE I used to have the tab book for it I wish I knew what happened to that book

  • i got stories i could tell. i'll leave it at i love this song.

  • Grunge was a way of life, nothing else. Take that as you may, people.

  • This song would give god wood. :)

  • @aghoranathi ...well said

  • sounds like 9-11

  • saw it live tonight at lolla....absolutely awesome!

  • this song GO HARD!!!!!!! XD

  • Soundgarden!! Mr. Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepard.........I love Soundgarden because they were all about nothing but their music...........no matter what others thought about it.....they started out a band and ended a band...........and nothing else......

  • one of the best albums i ever listen to, this song rocks my ass off!

  • soundgarden is effectively heavy metal. nirvana is grunge, and the band that pioneered it. if your eardrum confuses you, turn down the decibals. i know from personal experience.

  • @MultiDiggs Actually, Nirvana was first and foremost a punk rock band. Grunge was kind a made-up genre.

  • the sound of my funeral.

  • someone knows how they tuned the guitars in this song?? because they sound creepy and muddy as hell !!!it must be in B

  • @FrankMustaine The tuning is CFCGBE according to the top-rated tab on Ultimate-Guitar.

  • Damn Listening to Jesus Christ Pose and then this. Blew my fucking mind. This is Grunge.

  • If youre tempted to click on the Evanescence cover of this in the related video..DONT. It's terrible.

  • soundgarden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i know it's grunge but it has a heavy riff doesn't it?

    super cool this song

  • sounds like in flamesss

  • Even if Soundgarden is better than Nirvana, you have to admit they owe much of their success to Nirvana.

  • @LAK1NG5rule WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude if anything Nirvana owes there success to Soundgarden. Soundgarden was the first major band to get a deal. They were sigened way before Nirvana.

    Soundgarden is revolutionary

  • @Wesson4 Yes but Nirvana made grunge popular

  • @LAK1NG5rule Ya Nirvana made it popular for the mainstream audiences. But soundgarden, AIC, Pearl Jam revolutionized music forever.

  • Happy 4th of July!

And I've always preferred Nirvana myself, but Soundgarden is unarguably the better band.

  • Soundgarden was the first of the grunge bands to have a major label deal by the way.

  • I mad people are even arguing about this Soundgarden and Nirvana both kick ass.

  • roman candles 4th of july

  • This is a great album

  • i was born too late... dammit 1996.

  • Soundgarden will always be one of my favorite bands. Bond.

  • LUXE!

  • Amazing cover art. I still remember the first time I turned it upside down and saw that it was also a picture of a forest fire. Blew my young mind...

  • absolutely perfect grunge tune takes me right back to seattle.

  • SO DARK...

  • Chris Cornell is the best singer to not do anything with his skills. To think, the reason he gives for quitting Soundgarden is "I just can't do anything more with them", after some of the best albums ever made? A true musical train wreck. I know this guy is gonna look back and say "Damn, I wish I could get soundgarden or Adioslave back together... Euphoria Historia was just lol

  • @6Strings4ever Soundgarden is back together as of this year.

  • @nwkegannw They played as of last Friday lol

  • @6Strings4ever

    its official...soundgarden has reunited

  • @AFTataryn hopefully they'll tour australia!! only reason i didnt buy tickets to metallica!

  • I LOVE IT!!!!! 90's was THE BEST GRUNGE AND ALTERNATIVE ROCK ERA!!!!! (Now that I say it I really miss it a little hahahaha)

  • hopefully we still have faith no more and AiC

  • Good old days when Cornell was makin GOOD music, fuck,Soundgarden's is right after Tool in my favorite bands chart:D

But now Cornell is making pure utter shit.

WTF happened with good music, earlier we had Nirvana,AiC,STP,Soundgarden,Faith No More,Tool and a lot fuckin GREAT music, now we have Lady Gaga,Rihanna and Chris Cornell ffs.

What the hell is going on,won't we ever get some quality music again?

  • @ElWrobel Chris got an injection of bad music taste by Timbaland. And yes music sucks. Sure AiC has reunited but it isn't the same without Layne :(

  • @ElWrobel Sign of the times. The good thing about it is that the current state leaves room for the rule breaker. From Sabbath, whoever pioneered hair metal, Nirvana and Korn, someone always comes and break the mold. Just have to wait, see and hope its worth while.

  • True,true. We'll see mate,i hope it will be worth the while:D

  • the funny thing about his solo music is that its crap on record but he does acoustic performances of the songs that are awesome.

  • 4th of july my birthday!!!lol

    very nice song

  • Plus americas national day or whatever they call it.

  • i know that

  • tremendo disco de princio a fin, historia del rock sin mas

  • sorry, dont mean heard, rather made in our lifetime, specially for u lot born too late to appreciate the artists of the 90's

  • Mate,I was born in 91 and I listen practically only to 90's artists,so is a lot of my friends;)

  • SG + Temple of the dog... some of the best songs we will hear in our lifetime... cornell is insane, all i have to say

  • This song is that addictive yet very creepy song.

The album cover fits the song.

  • @Foges6694 Good point, on the album cover.

  • @Foges6694 Wikipedia says that this songs is about taking LSD drug, but I say this song is about nuclear winter

  • @southernboygonebad ...yup.

  • @Foges6694 the song is about an LSD trip, so yeah, it does fit indeed LMAO!

  • @RoyLikesKMFDM IS the magic of this group, you can interpret the lyrics in your own way, and always make sense

  • como extraño esta banda , que falta que hace al rock

  • fuck u soundgardenreunion. reznor din say HAIL SATAN, he was giving a concept. and if u were musically advanced, u would know that soundgarden isnt getting back together u dumb fuck.

  • A massively great song. Strong, dark, and ominous. Should be made the new national anthem, at least until (Nut)Bush goes out of office or dies or whatever.

  • awesome song. btw, its very hard to find soundgarden t-shirts for sale nowadays. If anyone has any suggestions to where i could find any, i would appreciate it. =)

  • eBay?

  • One of my favorite Soundgarden songs. So ponderous and heavy.

  • Nice way of putting it!

  • fuckn awesome song pity chris' did his solo stuff with timbaland

  • fucking true legendary grunge

  • bizzare.... like there best songs, i.e. ( this one, fresh tendrils. my wave, never the machine forever, dusty, and no attention didnt go on the greatist hits, i know they were not popular, but they should of still been on there.

  • I just think this an amazing song. Even from the first time I heard it, I loved it. First song I listened to on the 4th.

  • FUCKING MASTERPIECE

  • Happy 4th one of the best songs ever deff the best song about today!!!!!!!

  • GREAT SONG

ONE OF THE BEST BANDS EVER

    CHRIS CORNELL IS A GOD!!!!!

I listen to this song every 4th of July

    Happy 4th of July!!!!

  • HAPPY 4th OF JULY!

  • required listening today (4th of July)

  • all music will never die..and whos cares if their grundge/alternative rock. Its music, you cant label most music. you punks who label music probably never even had a guitar lesson in your life, let alone even know what real music is about.

  • wow dude Mirthless, if you knew anything about Grunge, the big saying was "grunge is dead". But true fans know it will never die.

  • See this is proof that Grunge didn't die in 1994. Thats because IT WILL NEVER DIE!!!! GRUNGE FOR LIFE!!!

  • I got into the grunge scene through Nirvana, but I must admit that as a piece of art, Soundgarden kicks Nirvana's butt any day, though I do still love anything with the surname Grohl in the credits.

  • Amen to that...

  • Exact same with me, seeing the Smells Like Teen Spirit video turned me on to 90's alt/rock, but once I was older I realized that I really loved AIC, Soundgarden, STP, Tool etc. a lot more because there's more substance musically, in my opinion of course.

  • @EccentricRichard dude your lame..how can you say that sound garden kicks nirvana's butt.?

  • @Commit6969 - I said Soundgarden kicks Nirvana's butt as a piece of art. It's just that Soundgarden were much more experimental, technical, and the lyrics more substantial.

  • @EccentricRichard Couldnt agree with u more . Just read a comment calling Cris Cornell Gods boy choir gone bad . The most amazing voice Ive ever heard . Nobody can do a Soundgarden song . On Temple of the Dogs Cris Cornell makes Eddie Vedder sound like a girl , dont get me wrong but We must give bow along with others to Cris Cornells pipes .

  • @Commit6969 Because they do. Do you have musical taste? Then all you have to do is open your fucking ears and hear that Soundgaraden blows Nirvana out of the water.

  • @WrestlingBC05 i do have musical taste thats why im saying that nirvana is better...

  • @Commit6969 Na they really aren't. Not even close. But it's all a matter of taste and you're entitled to your clearly wrong opinion lol.

  • @Commit6969 It's Soundgarden, not Sound Garden. And he's right, Soundgarden is better than Nirvana. They were known before Nirvana was a band. People on the Nirvana bandwagon, like yourself, disagree.

Was Nirvana on Deep Six? Didn't think so.

Soundgarden is the sound of Grunge, not Nirvana.

  • @EccentricRichard Nirvana is art that you love if you play, as he made little numbers of chords sound like a groovy song. Bud.

  • @EccentricRichard amen brother, amen

  • this song is about nuclear war, I

    think.

  • Amazing. What a work of 'sonic art'. From the opening dark riff straight through the charged conclusion, I felt captivated by this song. Chris' vocal harmonies with himself (the lower and higher register combined) was a skillful choice; really sounded like 2 different people! The drums carrying along the mournful, haunting vibe. The bass delivers an incredible pulsating feel. The lead guitar work is forceful and searching (much like the storyline) for answers and meaning. Never loses its touch.

  • Excellent analysis by you, sir!!!

  • Thanks alot, definitely a great enjoyable tune! Best wishes!

  • Chris Cornell must have really struggled with religion - I mean a lot of his songs have religious imagery and a sort of disapointment in the fact that religion hasn't lived up to what it should be.

  • 4 sum strange reezun, thiz song makez me feel better...perhaps itz tha lowness of it and how soothing yet acid chris's vocal are. shit, thiz songz a fuckin masterpiece

  • i agree 100 percent this song IS a fucking masterpiece.

  • i love this song and this band!!!!

    read this:D:

On the meaning of the song singer Chris Cornell had this to say, when asked if he writes a lot of songs on acid he responded, "No, but '4th of July' is pretty much about that day. You wouldn't get that if you read it. It doesn't read like, 'Woke up, dropped some acid, got into the car and went to the Indian reservation'."

  • awesome song

  • This song reminds me of the darkest pit of hopeless dispair....I love every minute of it! This is my close second favorite Soundgarden song, next to Black Hole Sun!

  • great call...thats how it seems to me...we are all fucked anyway...

  • song always struck me as being about the end of the world...

4th of July, sky lit up. Religious images...

either way ...hands down, best dark song ever

  • only cornell knows exactly what his lyrics mean..everyone takes something different out of it..he said it himself..what you get from the lyrics is what you get..they are yours..whatever images they create..they're yours..doesn't mean thats what he is saying in his songs

  • thats coming from chris.damn they were a great band.never gave it a thought.thanks for being civil mate...

  • no prob mate...i just try to make sense before i make comments like most ppl on here ya know..

  • Amazing (though scaring and pesimistic)!!

  • i still love sg my ex thought he was saying Jesus tries to cramp your style...oh fucking well...

  • oh shut up, im a catholic, so is chris cornell, its fucking music you dumb ass, expressive, badass music!

  • HAIL SATAN!!!! In the words of Trent Reznor, "Your God is dead, and noone cares, and if there is a Hell...Ill see YOU there!!"

  • "oh no it is YOU who are mistaken about a great many things"...you?? are catholic huh??sure you are.you got one foot in hell and the other on a bananna peel/with mr.reznor the devils got a nice spit for both of you imps....have a happy easter

  • i thought you were catholic...whats up with the hail satan?

  • Its called "Antagonizing"

  • gotchya..ma bad

  • same here just rocking the boat

  • STUPID ASS! those arent the beliefs of trent. its only the aspects of Nhilism and Nietczchenism he wanted to bring into his album. fuckin dumbass.

  • ur just a fuckin teenager, which means you know "SHIT" about music. SG was one of the most talented bands in decades, show some respect u little punk kid.

  • oh wait a minute, wrong person. ur apparently 28, yet u talk like a child, wow, im truly speechless, grow up, act ur fuckin age buddy, and stop polluting the comment section with ur bullshit, people actually want to comment on this vid., not dumb 28 year old losers. act ur age, ok?

  • dont think thats what their saying. Chris is a cathoic and even if he isnt perfect he would sing about jesus not being resurrected. I think its saying hes buried by the minds of the people who "dont want to speak about the spreading fire"

  • you very well may be right.i just wanted to shake a few satan-devil worshippers up.i like chris.great voice.shalom

  • Don't take that verse too literal. I think that it's saying that during dark times, people tend to throw out or bury their religion. Even though Jesus is still there for them with an open smile, they bury him away because they are scared. But that's just my opinion.

  • I agree! The song actually refers to how many people have put religion aside as it doesn't mean much to them!

  • i love the song who cares.....

  • Yeah dude, WHO CARES.

  • "why dont you try sticking your head up your ass and see if it fits".... you gutless sonofafucking bitch ass punk...hows that???

  • did i write that??must have been plowed..

  • @SoundgardenReunion Cornell's not Catholic. He might of been raised that way but he is has said numerous times he despises organised religion.

  • ...and i heard it in the wind and i saw in the sky and i thught it was the end i thought it was the fourth of july...

    Great Song

Chris Cornell's voice is the BEST

    SOUNDGARDEN RULES

  • i love this song, this helped me outta some shit haha chris cornell sounds amazing.

i dont care wat any1 says the 90's produced some of the best bands ever ;)

  • All true!

  • i totally agree

  • Absolutely true! Too bad I didn't enjoy it at the time, was too little for that.

  • this is kinda like Soundgarden's version of Into The Void, although they did a cover of that(limited edition of Badmotorfinger) slow, sludgey, and kicks ass 8 days a week

  • light a roman candle, and put it in your hand

  • slow and heavy that's how

    you fuckin' do it

  • best song together with beyond the wheel and Gun...Deepest grunge song ever!!!

  • One of the deepest, darkest ever, beyond grunge.
