Alex was a founder member of the Amphetameanies, and wrote This Boy while he was in the band - 1997 to 2003.
We had been playing the song live for several years when Alex suddenly got busy with the Franzies and had to retire from his ska duties.
What ended up happening was that, by mutual consent, both the 'Meanies and the Franzies recorded studio versions of 'This Boy', roundabout the same time.
The Meanies brass section has guested with the Franzies on several occasions since.
