I wish people could enjoy a vaguely interesting performance without recourse to "she's a genius," "she's a goddess," etc. She is not. She is talented, wrote and performed some decent pieces, but please: this is not genius. Reserve the word for Beethoven or Goethe, not this.
@MarcusCMarcellus I agree with you that such superlatives are off-putting, but...define genius. Personally, I find some of her work impenetrable but it gives me pause to think. A fresh, innovative album like 'Mister Heartbreak' stands alone, I've never heard another work quite like it.
im constanly amazed at the idiot comments that fully reveal the ignorance of the ones making them...why the helll would someone IGNORANT to what Laurie is all about...even STUMBLE in to this clip...????
the last part of this...with the vocoder thing...is beyond music...it's so friggin sublime...i pity the oafs that cant really hear it...

voici voilla la la ouh voici le langage de l'amour . nanananahou voici le langage de l'amour. comme ci comme ca voici voila la la la hou voici le langage de l'amour. voici le langage de mon cœur. I love her. She is as good as bjork
@throbulator427 I agree because my opinion is based upon what I'm used to listening as music, but what is really a song? Earlier blues wasn't considered music because it was so different, why is this different?
I used to listen to Laurie back in 81/82 when I was 14ish. There was a radio show in the uk called "Walters Weekly" on a Saturday afternoon that I and my mother would listen to and he would play things like this and Peter Finch, Diamanda Gallas, Blancmange, Marc and the Mambas etc. and have pieces about Ivor Cutler and the Toy Rep doing "Double Indemnity" and so on. All the kids have now is us.
PLEASE! THIS IDIOT POSTED IT AND I'M SCARED THAT THIS MIGHT REALLY HAPPEN SO DON'T SEND IT TO ANYMORE VIDEOS.
IM NOT TRYING TO ADVERTISE BUT IM SCARED OF WHAT IT SEES in 1908 a lady named sally rusa was in the woods looking for a dog until a ghost came and killed her so if ur reading this u will find a bloody body in your closet hanging there haunting you and will kill you and ur family and if u want to stop this just sends this to 6 videos in 30 mins or this will happen good luck!!
"..and they were not very smart, but they were happy as clams." :D "...and afterwards she was bored with the man, because no matter what happened he was always as happy as a clam." :D
Keep them coming! Laurie has to be one of the best public speakers ever. Nice dress too, her figure isn't quite full enough to pull it off. Captivating performance none the less.
If not 'genius', then certainly 'excellent' and 'masterful'.

I loved the CD then, and I love the track now. It's the only music you could ever listen to on a white beach, under a shady straw umbrella.

@throbulator427 music is not necessarly a song, and theatre or prose can be musical sometimes.

this song is so beautiful.
Is this the story of the garden of Eden ?
..and so ..
WE got into the boat and left the Island..
but we never stayed anywhere long ..
and so spread out humanity... ??

It is performance art. It is what you interpret it to be. But, yes. I'll accept that. :)
