You didn't read the book. When your Free Talisman, and shortly after that she looks off and you go "um". In the direction she is looking there is a book to read for a lore perk.
Also, I can see why you find the game difficulty, you didn't block or move behind the pillar to avoid Talisman's BAM! attack, got held and dropped to 25% health. You really have to block. It makes the game more dynamic and interesting IMO then the other MMO's.
I was held first, which disallowed block, at least in the beta. I don't find the game extremely difficult, I find it tedious being forced through the same god damn quests over and over and over for every new char. At least there was a slight amount of randomness with the paper missions.
Well, I mean, if you watch the video, the hold was preceded by a BAM! animation above Sinisters head before you got held. If you blocked that, you likely would not of been held.
I do agree with you about the repetitive nature though, Hopefully they will add enough missions at some point that you can at least go through a second time and do a completely separate set of missions without any overlap.
Although, not as bad as City of Heroes the first time though as far as repetition.

If you want the long winded explaination she is an angel who travels via dimensional methods rather than plain old fashioned winged flight. The wings are merely a throwback she felt unnecessary to rid herself of. She CAN fly (just not yet due to secondary travel powers coming later in game), but rarely does due to it being cumbersome and tiring. :)

The boss of the Desert Crisis is Gigaton, and is in another instance. This one is Talisman, for the climax to the Burnside quest line in the Desert. There are plenty of other bosses. :)

It is very linear. Sure you get to chose different linear paths, but there isn't a variety of quest chains to chose from. You're strung along in a line (hence linear). The game isn't bad per se, just wasn't expecting the sudden slap of absolute boredom and frustration after a while in the game. Its possible higher levels are better, however why should we be forced to slog through 15 levels of mediocrity to get to the juicy center?

CO is worth it if you're looking for a totally different type of game. Sure its an MMO with the same 'go here, do this' quests, but thats the same with ANY RPG not just CO. The fighting is different.. you HAVE to block charged attacks or you'll totally get pwned, and you have to know when to chose what power, instead of just using one 4 key combination to win every pve battle like WoW. Try the beta and find out if you like it. :)

I just hated the supernatural builder, so I respecced archery just for the energy builder. Later, I got sonic arrow :)
