I went to the local mall theater in the summer of 1985 whenever I was 14 and saw this flick with a friend whose brother worked at the theater, we watched it at midnight and I thought it was the greatest zombie flick ever it even topped return of the living dead and I thought that was an awesome flick as well. This will go down in history as George A. Romero's goriest movie ever...

@jokerclayface The stripe on his arm suggests he's a corporal. But on IMDB he's credited as pte Steele. This film is known for it''s portrayal of the military being cartoonish. I don't think Romero cared much about military accuracy as long as they looked the part, and I don't think the budget allowed for a technical advisor. The unifirms are correct for the time, but there's inconsistances with insignia. I read somewhere that although rhodes is a captain his insignia is wrong.

@mellodge US Army ranks are different to UK Army, 1 chevron is Private 1st class in the US not Lance-corporal like in the UK. Captain Rhodes is also wearing the correct rank symbol, two bars side by side & crossed rifles on the other collar for infantry. Patch on his shoulder is for the 99th infantry division.

Nevertheless, an interesting point in the film is that rank is irrelevant at this point; whatever their rank was, they're on top now that the apocalypse has offed everybody. The only thing that matters now is how well armed and mean you are; that's why Rhodes is in charge, not because he's a 'captain'.

I love the tension between the survivors. Maked it feel more realistic. Only downfall is that we dont know HOW the undead started rising. Possibly the typical ''Unknown Virus Outbreak''. But the story makes that reason believeable
