I don't get where people got the idea that all raccoons have ticks and rabies. Some do, but so do some dogs. Even enough people. Do you worry rats will give you the plague and Jews will poison your well too? The best advice is never pet a rabid anything, even a dormouse. And if a healthy and happy raccoon wants a scritch, may as well scritch it.

That was incredibly neat seeing all those critters there!! :D Even more incredible is the fact that the one little fellow let you pet him. I take it that they come by often and are used to you....so they aren't afraid of you petting them.
LOL, I agree! I have a love/hate relationship with raccoons. They're adorable and funny but can be incredibly destructive & messy when they try to nest in your roof/garage/shed/property. We had an old shed on our property the raccoons got into. Imagine cleaning out a shed completely filled with raccoon poop during the hot summer! One even died in there! I tore down the shed but now they now poop on the roof of my garage, in a spot directly across from the kitchen window! Ack! X-P

We drove it off once and put ammonia all around as well as moth balls. We thought we were ok but a little over a week later it came back and we had it cornered at the end of the mini roof. It took off again and we called to have a trap set but got no takers. Good thing we trimmed a tree in the back that gave it roof access

Absolutely: However, these animals have been coming up to my friends window for months. It was really cool when Mama gave birth to 2 babies, we actually took care of them and they were so lovable, they were scared to climb at first, but after awhile, they did come to the window for a cookie, and my friend got to pet the babies, it was really cool, I wish the skunks would climb also, they seem like cool animals.
Actually most skunks will not spray unless they feel threatened. I was about a foot away from a skunk once and it did not spray. Skunks actually have very poor eye sight and unless you get really close to them they and make sudden movements they don't even know your there. But they are still beautiful animal and will not spray usually. Usually when a skunk sprays, it's trying to show the other skunks that it's in charge because it has the strongest odor, that's just what they do.
