i was tryin to catch gar one day and was usin a 10in eel for bait on a 5alt hook with 30lb steel leader and 20lb test on a small surf rod and got a hit as sonn as i through it in the boat basin but it didnt stick so we cut it into 3in chunks and tried a pice and caughr a 8lb bass...i was checkin another rod across the basin and had that one in free spool so it rapped around 2 pilings so i had to swim to unrap the son of a bitch but it was worth it for my personal best bass..kinda noodled him lol

I understand they make long hooks and that you can connect two hooks but that cancles out the swivle of the snake. Correct me if i am legitimately wrong but thats just how i see it.

A good friend of mine who happend to be working the dock that day and witnessed the fish called me and i came down. i have ran into jed a bunch of times and have a few friends on the pro staff that he is on. The fish was snagged just under the dorsil fin. I saw the puncture wound with my own eyes, Jed swears it was unintentional and i beleive him. He is more about the fish then the record and thats why he let her go to avoid controversy.

If you want to see what a 20 pounder looks like, then look up "Dottie," the fish caught in Lake Dixon, CA by Jed Dickerson then later Mac Weakley. That was a record-class fish. These are not. Sorry, but I didn't see any fish in this video that would hit 22-4. I saw some big fish, but none that big. If you want to see what a 20 pounder looks like, then look up "Dottie," the fish caught in Lake Dixon, CA by Jed Dickerson then later Mac Weakley. That was a record-class fish. These are not. And if there was a pending record, then everyone in the bass fishing world would know about it. Not just the producer of this video. Sorry.

I used these on northern pike up here in Alaska and they tore it up. The thing is...there are no snakes up here in Alaska. The action is just such that the fish can't resist biting it.

personally i dont like the advertisement for that snake , they say that it catches the real big ones wich probably is true but what if your fishing in a pond with only 1 and 2 lb bass that arent going to want an 11" snake , or in a river with only smallmouth .. and they also dont advertise that one of those snakes is 40$ wich is complete BULLSHIT. might as well get one at the doller store , tie hooks to it and tie a line threw its head

Apparently you don't read well. For $40, you get 18 snakes and 4 hooks, a how-to CD, fishing maps and an e-book. That doesn't add up to much more on a per-snake basis than your dollar store snake and buying hooks to rig it. I'd say your solution is actually the one that is bullshit.
And if one was fishing in a pond that only has small fish, anyone with more than half a brain would use appropriate tackle for that situation.

Larger baits yield larger fish. I would argue that largemouth bass probably encounter water snakes all the time. Scared of it? I doubt it. Bass are ambush predators. Not much scares them.

Your facts are not true, fact is bass know energy expended for energy returuned. They seek the wounded or the distracted like any other predator on earth. If a prey seems healthy and awear no matter the size they will not attack it, period. Its the way nature is designed, survival of the fitest. And on that note Doug is way out of date as far as bass angling, old ideas proven false over and over.

Your attempt to be academic missed the point of the question. Bass don't ONLY target wounded prey. Your generalization about energy expended for energy returned can be applied to just about any predator/prey relationship.
Any professional bass angler; larger baits generally yield larger catches.
