  • What is the selection process for a soldier's weapon. Who gets a Thompson, or an M1 Carbine,or an M1 Garand etc.??????

  • @nikemac84 The only way this private got a Thompson was off of a dead sergeant.

  • @Kintercept Normally, only officers or NCO's were issued Thompsons in World War II. The rest used M1 Garand rifles or M1 carbines.

  • @Calriec ohhh you mean like a dead SERGEANT?

  • @Kintercept Yes, possibly.

  • @Kintercept Not true.

  • @nikemac84 depends on rank i heart a sergeant can choose between m1 carbine or thompson.also depends is if you are in a rifle squad or support squad mg section engineers etc etc etc

  • Its anoyying when every thought that manning was a pussy. But ends up giving his life away to destroy tiger tanks

  • Does the melody at 1:07 have a name?

  • When I fuck this up...Is it your fault or mine? -Great line.

  • woah! Private to Seargent!

  • omg Sgt. Talbot is PFC Tonybe in Saving Private Ryan! haha that's great

  • This low-budget made-for-HBO film got overlooked when it premiered just before the release of Saving Private Ryan in 1998. However, it is an extremely well-acted and fairly historically accurate depiction of the grinding attritional combat of the ETO in autumn of 1944. Just a really terrific war film!

  • @mkeogh76 I agree. A great film for being low budget HBO. Those poor guys went through hell, the ones that lived anyway.

  • good movie

  • How did I never hear about this movie?

  • @nero91 its pretty underrated sadly :,(

  • This was probably the most stagnated and demoralizing battles of the European theater for the Americans. It started in September of 1944 and continued for months into mid-winter of 1945. Losses were horrendous for both sides but the Germans being on the defensive had the advantage and were dug in like ticks in the dense forest. From books I have read this movie does the campaign some pretty good justice in it's depiction of a miserable, muddy, cold and terrifying mess.

  • fucking lvoe this movie

  • best line in the movie imo

    "im kinda an emotional guy"

  • i wish john irving would make a film on iraq. before he dies. i want him to show the horror of iraq. thats just my wish. sorry.

  • The Battle of Hürtgen Forrest was succeded by the Battle of the Bulge

  • I can't believe Manning looted new boots from the dead soldier I can understand needing new boots but didn't they supply new stuff to the troops?

  • @TheTomdor

they had no real supply there...

the soldiers had seen so much death and wartime atrocities, so they didn't care if the boots belonged to a dead soldier.

he needed new boots, so he looted some.

  • Is this movie any good?

  • Bradley should have been cashiered for this fiasco. The reason why you never hear of it is because it is unholy to hear anything bad about the senior American commanders in Europe during WW2.

  • best WW2 movie ever

  • @capnhands man , where was I when this came out?

    it looks really good

  • Subtitles for the hearing impaired?

  • Staying alive for a week got Manning promoted fro Private to Sergeant.

  • Yep. Skipped over PFC, Spc. + Corporal. And went from Sergeant to Lieutenant. Ain't that some shit? Staying alive was this man's bad luck! lol

  • they got promoted to seargent so they could leed a platoon!

  • You missed the point. He'd rather be dead than to be given a promotion. He wants to go home, not to be promoted. Because he was able to stay alive, he kept getting promoted, when all he was trying to do was go home.

  • my grandfather watched this and said it was more like a horror movie than realistic

  • This is a great post. Thank you. The Hurtgen Forest was one of the great disasters of WWII. You rarely ever hear of it. News reporters covering the battle called the Hurtgen "The Green Hell." The GIs who fought there referred to it as "The Death Factory." Some of the best units in the US Army were fed piecemeal into this meat grinder and the causalities were staggering. In the end the battle was not won, the Germans merely pulled back for the beginning of the Ardennes offensive.

  • War is hell,as they say,as they say..

  • @NotesCollector Was the Ardennes offensive the battle of the bulge?

  • @Lennon4ever1 yeah but this battle was just before the bulge

  • @NotesCollector I love the theme music of this movie.

  • The irony of this battle is that they simply could have gone around the forest. There was no objective in the forest itself and a lot of good soldiers died needlessly.

  • @astranine its to comment after the happenings or if you didn't have to decide yourself and even great generals can make mistakes

  • thats basically because in those days the americans werent a very good army, they had good numbers but bad training&the top brass were trying 2 impress every other nation and the ordinary soldier payd with their lives!

  • no the americans at this time had a great army its just that they needed replacements at this time and replacements don't get as much training as a regular soldier would

  • @Bdiddly1 Thats why the Jap's put up a fight because they they wasn't prepared for jungle warefare. They under estimated the enemy.

  • @warwolfii Agreed, all the "real" battles of WWII get left out most of time. Stalingrad, Hurtgen, Kursk, Leningrad, you name it(I don't know much about Western Front battles, just that the Eastern Front was where the war was really decided). Nevertheless, I respect both the American and German soldiers.

  • @warwolfii treu the hurtgen forrest (i live nearby) but iam from holland.was at itself a very useable terrein for defence. few raods alot of woods ridges unsuiteble for tanks.american commanders didnt have a fucking cleu what they were doing attack the defenses head on.us soldiers were trained to lie down in an artillery bombardment.but the most projectiles exploded in the air so lieying down was actually exposing urself all this led to an disaster and when they took it the germans retook it

  • Great movie. My wifes godfather fought in this battle, 28th Infantry Division. God bless him. He said he lost his whole squad in one day, he was the only one who survived.

  • this is the best war movie i've seen since "Full metal jacket"

Real good reporters job, i like it, no propaganda shit

    5/5

  • Awesome movie, thanks very much for upload, if i remember right this came out around the same time as saving private ryan, i hadnt heard anything about it and it was awesome, i love the main character lol hes a bit of a scumbag but a survivor

  • very thanks man for upload 5*

  • What's a section 8?

  • Insanity maybe, but that'd require a medical officer's written confirmation.

  • what is a section 8?

  • section 8 is when someone is mentally unfit to stay in the military. Hes gone section 8, is like saying hes gone insane!

  • In the memory of those who fought this terrible war....

  • As Plato once said:"Only the dead have seen the end of war"

  • @NotesCollector words of wisdom indeed!

  • The state of the US Army at this time was pretty well shot out. Some divisions had a better than 100% turn over. Combat effectiveness do to this created an army at about 50% effective.

Hurtgen was a meat grinder. All to get to the Ruhr river dams.

  • tgross who gives a shit its to movies pretty much

  • so far I like it. Band of Brothers is better though.

  • this is a movie, band of brothers was a miniseries, based on the actual real members of Easy Company 506th PIR, as well as a book. So, you really can't compare the two. The only way you can compare it is that it takes place in WW2, and that it revolves around soldiers in a platoon/the harsh cirumstances and elements which they endure.

  • lol sub titles have a miss print at 4:45ish

  • That's an awesome typo. I might start using it lol

  • What a arschloch he steals his dead comrades the boots

  • You either steal or you gonna die of trench foot.

  • AAAHHHHHH the dreaded trench foot!

  • His would need them more then a dead soldier.

  • 4:44 he said hell.not bell.

  • they sure mess up the subtitles

  • one of the more realistic war movies

  • as you can tell this is rated pg for mild language.

  • LOL, rated PG? Shouldn't this be rated R? The F Bomb is dropped so many times. LOL O.o

  • lol

  • kill that damn mannings

  • this was a very best movie if were in stone age

  • at 9:15 he says '' were going to the front'' but he didnt get any order...

  • I always hated Talbot.

  • post the rest of the movie please!!!

  • were is the rest of the movie plzzzzz i want to c this pllllzzzzzzz
