how are the sights on the aia? are they the same as an oringinal enfeild? i want an enfeild so bad and im considering a brand new AIA over an older one, i heard you say they're non-adjustable?
@TheArmyMan204 I find the sights to be pretty good. The front post is well defined and the rear sight is the "L" style with one aperture for short-range (100-300 Meters) and one for long-range (400-600 Meters). I'm told it's also possible to use a Number 2 rear sight if you can find one.
i was thinking are possibly a noinco np17 or one of the 1911 norinco models because of the good price, i was also looking at rock island armory and springfield armory and got mixed reviews on both, the perfect looking handgun to me is the colt commander but that starts at like 1000 and the 45 acp ammo looks expensive by what ive seen on sites, ive also been looking at the chinese sks on marstar they say on there if you buy 1400 rounds of 7.62x39 for 280 they'll sell you one for 75 lol
@MetallicaOwnsYou The Norc 1911s are actually pretty well regarded. The steel they use is very good. I have a Norc NZ85 and actual CZ owners have remarked to me about how much nicer the steel in mine is. As for the SKS, if you can spend the money, get a Russian, they're quite a bit nicer.
man that is a beautiful rifle!!! i have my license booked for january and im debating on what to get for my first firearm, everything from caliber and cost of ammo to if i want a rifle or handgun. im most likely only going to have about 600 to spend when i get my license, how much did that rifle go for? ive seen it on marstart for 800 plus tax but thats the only place ive seen it, it it worth getting and how expensive is ammo? what would you recommend for a first firearm?
@MetallicaOwnsYou Yeah, she's a beaut! You will never see one for less than $800 though, unless it's in poor condition. They're quite rare. AIA only makes a few thousand a year, and only a few hundred ever made it to Canada as part of a shipment destined for the US that eventually couldn't be sold there due to their import laws. Not a great first gun though, costs too much to shoot when you're green. A VZ or even an SKS will give you much better value while you learn.
Hey I don't want to sound like a dick but Australians only used mk3s. We made a mk4 jungle carbine that was never issued but not the full length rifle. Are you sure its Australian. I do love the old .303 they are a top rifle but I must confess my growing love for the nagant. The bullshit laws over here mean you cant fully load the mag on the range anymore so its just one shot at a time.
Awesome! I live in Alberta too! do you mind me asking where you bought your rifle? I am very seriously considering buying one. but I haven't got the slightest idea where to find one..
@Rossco139 Alberta IMHO is the best place in the world, hands down.
I bought the rifle from Marstar (dot com), but Wolverine supplies (dot com) also has them from time to time. Both are excellent retailers. Online mail-order is the way to go on stuff like the AIA, there simply isn't enough of them in the country to wait and hope one shows up at your local gun store. PM me if you need more details.
@Ironwulf2000 It is the Homestead 900 meter rifle range that is operated by the Alberta provincial rifle association. It's built to DCRA spec and plays host to DCRA Service Conditions, DCRA Precision, F-Class, and TR target rifle shooting.
And yes, it is carved out of undeniably beautiful country.
@MegaGewehr The one he's firing is in 7.62x51mm NATO which can also fire .308 Winchester. There are other rifles- a lot sold in the US and some final production ones being made in Australia now that are 7.62x39mm as per the SKS/SKK and AK47 and so on
wow thats good shooting , dont those enfields have a chrome lined bore? some people say it lowers the accuracy having a chrome bore in a rifle? but im not to sure about that i would rather have a chrome bore it has 3 times the barrel life . never got to see a AIA enfield in person that stock looks nice how is the machining of the receiver look ? it seems to shoot good
If the chrome lining reduces accuracy I haven't the wit to recognize it. The rifle appears to still be more accurate that I am. The machining is some of the nicest I have seem on a rifle.
@MrLongbranch303 Chrome lining only reduces accuracy if the chrome lining is poor. It also occurs when the barrel is made to length, then lined. AIA barrels are made longer then machined down, ensuring a more consistent lining thickness. Thats my understanding of it. My ex missus never shot before and her life and she could -after about an hours practice getting familiar with how to shoot - get an MOA group at 100m, with an AIA.

Cool video. I think that I should buy one of these rifles. The enfield is one of the coolest rifles ever made. A cool part of Canadian history too.
Good shooting BTW

@nwrepka can you acquire this with just a PAL?
I live in Alberta too :D
HanGookBoi 9 months ago
@HanGookBoi A PAL and 800 bucks is all you need. Well worth it if you ask me.
nwrepka 9 months ago
@nwrepka mmm been thinking about it for quite some time. Do you shoot .308 or 7.62 nato?
HanGookBoi 9 months ago
@HanGookBoi
Both. The rifle handles them equally well but is technically chambered for 7.62 NATO.

Great shooting and you didn't even have the rifle laying on a sack.

Forgot to ask, but what calibre is that rifle chambered in? Heard that .223 SMLE's were popular.

@MegaGewehr Never seen a .223 SMLE personally. Mine is 7.62x51 / .308 Win.

@MrLongbranch303 Check out the Australian International Arms facebook page for more info, or just google the name should get you the website.
Chrome lined barrels dont help nor hinder accuracy IMHO.
