one word - STUPID - why copy the legendary sphagetti westerns when you know it cant be copied, neither in style, delivery or content. DO SOME"THING" ORIGINAL OR DONT BOTHER.
@jeevanirajiv The irony of seeing "spaghetti Western" and "original" in the same phrase. Educated people know that the original Spaghetti Western (Fistful of Dollars) was based on the Japanese film Yojimbo, also spoofed by Miike in this film. They know that Leone and team were sued and had to settle with Kurosawa over royalties because of alleged plagiarism from Yojimbo when making Fistful of Dollars. Miike is clearly playing off both films, genres and cultural aspects - check your facts.
@etherella Ah yes, using the word irony without having actually figured out when to use it! Educated folks would also know that yojimbo borrowed liberally (albeit unoficially) from Hollywood westerns. (perhaps kurosawa should be sued also). Every movie/book theme has been "borrowed" or re-worked at some time or another. Educated people would again know this. Heck even idiots would know that. As for Miike. HE IS SHITE. NOT A SINGLE ORIGINAL IDEA IN THE MANS HEAD.
@jeevanirajiv I don't believe I said otherwise.I was merely referring to your rampage at Miike - whose films I don't generally like either, as it happens - as ironic being that you told him to be original when Fistful itself is not original. That has nothing to do with whether Yojimbo itself is original or not. I suggest you review 'irony' along with your film facts, and widen your vocabulary to eradicate the need for base expletive.
The inspiration comes from two different films: Yojimbo and Django (presumably). I haven't seen the latter film, but the connection to the former is quite strong, with the only difference being setting. The Tale of Heike (and their war with Genji) is a famous story among the Japanese, so the choices there were purposeful.
The obviously fake backdrop and very animated movements have elements of kabuki (or kyogen?), and Tarantino's change in voice is an imitation of the blind Japanese minstrels.
myGOD what an amazing movie. saw it and forced my family to watch it. they liked it like i knew they would. maybe next time i recommend a movie they'll watch it.
That was...weird...it seemed serious and hysterical at the same time...Idk what he was going for, but it didn't come off as good. Not all together at least. If the funny parts were meant to be funny, and the serious parts meant to be epicly serious, then I guess he gets a 10/10?...
i didnt know quintin tarantino was in this, thats pretty cool, this looks pretty interesting and if its done by takeshi miike it should definitely be a fun (if strange) movie to watch
I'm impressed. So the Japanese CAN make a good western. I was doubtful at first, but watching the clips on Youtube assures my worried mind. May the Sakura Western era begin!
Wow. This is really bad. Haven't seen the whole film but besides the visuals this is weird as hell. At 4:45 did Quentin get a finger in his butt? odd acting
Quentin is in another part of the movie other than the intro... they show him young and the old dude in the wheel chair. I'm sorry but having Tarantino do a Japanese accent was priceless. Regardless... people aren't going to flock to this movie because of QT...they are going to flock to this movie because Takashi Miike is the director and a brilliant one at that. I don't know if anyone has seen his Master of Horror's Imprint but he likes to have bad acting in his some of his movies. I loved it.
Idk I thought it was cool for him to make a small cameo appearance, but if you think about it his part in the movie was minimal so it's enough to make hardcore fanboys shoot their load but not enough to really affect the plot itself. He doesn't really make or break the movie one way or another, but he does bring in a small audience to gain the makers some more cash flow. Doesn't sound like that much of a detriment to me.
I'm not disagreeing with any of that. You just cant take a movie like this and expect it to focus on the acting. I'm sure that if Miike (spelling) wanted good acting, he'd have focused on that. Personally (and no, I'm not a Q.T fanboy by any means) I just thought it was funny as hell to put him in the intro. It really shows the level of whacked out that the director will go to.

Yeah, and our Ebonics listening comprehension isn't improving by watching American films. You idiots don't speak grammatical English. You speak Ebonics, an African-American language. Is that "wack" or what? Pimp my ride! Instead of simply saying "my mistake", you idiots say "my bad". What? You couldn't spare the extra syllable to say "my mistake"? Americans are idiots! lol
Oh my bad, you were talking about movie industry? Sure, Hollywood is number one. In making brainless eye spectacles, that is, with a few good exceptions. Most of which are directed by non-americans anyway.
Hollywood has the money, but it lacks talent. End of discussion.
P.S. did u take me for a chinese?...doesn't matter.

art doesn't mean crap if you can't make money off it. It's called Marketing.
And yes, about ten brainless movie come out every year in the form of blockbusters. But NO, those ten movies do not represent the bulk of the 200 release titles a year.
What your saying actualy doesn't makes sense in this discussion. You may should stop talking about art if you don't know what it's about.
And than: If we can say that someone invented the cinema it where those 2 french people, don't know there name anymore. It only selled in america the best cause in that time america had golden times. However its silly calling it "your cinema"...
"art doesn't mean crap if you can't make money off it."
Wow, I really don't like you.

I love Quentin. Dont care much for Miike. But this intro was horrible.
My curiousity is now destroyed. I'll just purchas the real Django w/Franco Nero.

dont care much fir miike? are you retarded?!??!?
I can't WAIT for this film. The trailer looks INCREDIBLE!! And I heard the film is more then you could dream for TRUE fans of good cinema and miike.

Nope, not retarded, just opinionated.
This movie looks horrible to me, the original was already good.
Shame it had to be bastardized by this director.
Good Cinema? Yeah, this goes right up there with Taxi Driver and Rocky 1 and 2.

Excellent quality. Takashi Miike rules. I like Gozu better though

Americans are idiots! lol

just keep loving our movies... keep imitating our cinema scraps we leave behind for you have reason to exist...
I hear you guys just mastered bullet time. Hows that going? Too bad we're over that like five years ago.
Theres a reason why the bulk of Americans don't care about foreign cinema... it doesn't universally entertain or appeal, or else we'd watch.
Oh and #1 in flab? Yeah, tell the Chinese to stop stocking white American pop stars and actress's.

But NO, those ten movies do not represent the bulk of the 200 release titles a year.

fuck off dick stain!

That's a shame. Because every second the film gets better and better.
... Though if the English acting bothered you there then I guess you probably won't enjoy the rest of it.
