I wonder what the reason is for swapping half your pig?

I took it as 'sheep' being cheaper than 'pig' so Tom and Barbara swapped half their pig to pay for the butchering. Not sure if that's right though.

I think the reason they swapped half their pig was so they would just have to eat pork for the next couple of months. Having the sheep gives their diet some variety considering at this point they still haven't produced enough from their crops.

I think it more liking that they did it for payment. Butchering a pig in my area costs over $50. They couldn't afford to pay for that.
