You could do an evil-villain version of this on a grand scale. Uh magnets don't work the way you described in the beginning. It's not a proton-electron imbalance, that's electric charge. Magnetism has to do with the spin, or magnetic properties of the electrons.

Uhh that explanation for magnetism is 100% wrong. If a subtance has more electrons than protons it exerts an electrostatic force (ie your hair sticks up, or you get shocked in the winter after walking on carpets). If your explanation of magnetism was right, then after you stuck two conducting magnets together, the charge would equalize and they'd fall apart (which they don't). Not educational at all!
