There are places with respawning chip boxes. I think you went by one like 5 times around 10-14

Always explore everywhere. You really want all the upgrades you can get in this game, as it gets very difficult in the later parts. The armor upgrades in particular make a huge difference.

Another weapon to try with the Queen Bean would be the shot that flies in circles around you, sort of like a shield to protect you from the bean sprouts.

TIPS FROM THE PROS (tm):

- The weapon you got from corridor 12 (the pointy thing, as you call it) is a weapon that you can only use in ship form.

- You shouldn't have gone left at that arrow. Don't you know that you're always supposed to go the way you're supposed to go in games last??

- If you go right, you could have upgraded your armor or gun.

- All aux weapons have 3 levels; blue (weakest), green (stronger), and purple (strongest). You leveled up the back-shot to green.
