  • robinsonw as 6"4.......and tough of course hes gonna pummel him

  • Yeah, I remember this well from back in the day.

What I would truly love, and would pay to see if I could have my own Fantasy Island, is to see every single Flyer player on this team get the S H I T beat out of them. They were a bunch of dogs, creepy guys mostly.

Robinson was an international hero that day!! Loved around the world.

  • i loved how robinson pointed at the other flyers after he pummeled shultz.even funnier , dupont an co. feeling they had to save the hammer.hahahaha

  • this is the movie slap shot deleted scenes. look for reg dunlop.

  • Schultz got thumped and all the Flyers stopped immediately after. Thank you Larry for ending the Flyer mystique. Hockey needed them to go away.

  • Steve Shutt without a helmet, and Guy Lafleur WITH one! Now THAT'S oldtime hockey!

  • This was a poor quality kinescope of NBC's broadcast of this game.

Is a color tape, or audio from the radio broadcasts (Philly or Montreal), or the CBC-TV footage available that can be posted??

I'd like top hear how the local announcers called it.

  • schultz is a fukin idiot like yourself

  • @JoshDane Traditionally, Philadelphians have loved big, hard drinking, highly motivated types. Think not just of hockey, but of baseball: Daulton, Dykstra, Kruk, etc. Amazingly, when Mike Schmidt struck out, they used to boo him! They always liked a guy who was ready to throw down, regardless of the sport. That's changing. More and more, they're demanding real excellence in their athletes... on and off the field/ice. Look at the current Phillies and Flyers as evidence.

  • ur world is very small, nobody give a damn

  • i Glad hockey isint like this anymore , this was retarded....

  • Poor shultz...He couldn"t grab Robinsons hair to pull it!!

  • It's funny how Philadelphia fans revel in the "Broad Street Bullies" moniker, when it's not a flattering description. Bullies are tough in a pack, but not so much one on one, bullies are tough until you punch them square in the face and then they want no part of you. Just take a look at how "Tough" these players were once they were traded from Philly and didn't have the wolfpack with them - Most ended up being exposed for the frauds they were, Saleski, Bridgman, etc...

  • Terry O'Reilly when bodychecked by Larry Robinson was asked by Dick Irvin what that felt like. O'Reilly said, "It felt like running into a redwood tree." Nuff said.

  • Flyers were always getting their asses kicked ! lol !

  • @robbee23 yeah, cause that's why they faught their way to win 2 cups in a row. Because they were always getting there asses kicked.

  • Remember this beatdown you worthless flyer pigs. It's what you deserved.

  • 2:36 the end of the broad street bullies

  • Now that's serious.

  • robinson made sure shutlz paid for his previous transgression on van boxmeer, he went looking for the hammer and gave him a back alley beatdown !!!

  • The night the Flyers died. God bless you Larry.

  • @mcleanartists Robinson kicked Schult'z butt but this happened in 1974 - the year the Flyers won their first of two cups. So the night the Flyers died was a bit inaccurate. That happened when Robinson drilled Gary Dornhoefer through (and I mean through) the boards in the 1976 finals and the Flyers were afraid to go near him the rest of the series.

  • I remember this fight, afterwards in the playoffs Bouchard and Schultz went at it, needless to say Bouchard won.

  • Schultz is Clark Gilles bitch. Loved watching Robinson knocking the shit out of the "Hammer".

  • congrats to schultz for taking a beating from a hall of famer.

  • Schultz v Probert = Wayne v Eastwood? Just a thought

  • Can anyone tell me what game this was? I know it was the 76 Cup Finals but which game in the series? Sorry for needing to ask but I just recently started getting into Hockey as a hobby and love the history but there are no notes or info anywhere about which game in the series it was. I have two huge framed posters on my wall from my Dad from this fight but no info.

  • @Silentbobclone76 It's not in 1976. This is probably the 1973-74 season. Guy LafLeur still wear a helmet, which he got rid of at the end of the 1973-74 season. Also, Dryden not in goal, he took the year off in 1973-74.

  • @Silentbobclone76 This game was in 1974. You can see both Barry Ashbee (Flyers) and Frank Mahovlich (Canadiens) and neither played for their respective teams after the 1973-74 season. I remember watching this game - it was a fairly meaningless one. But it let everyone know Montreal had some young guy who could kick Schultz'z butt. It turned out he was a Hall-of-Fame defenseman in the making, but no one knew that at the time.

  • I saw this game when it happened!!!! Best thing to ever happen to Schultz! Robinson was one tough player.

  • Schultz looked like he didn't want to fight Robinson.

  • @jogman262 No wonder! He knew that Robinson would kick his ass!

  • @jogman262 Nobody wanted to fight Robinson. He was one tough dude.

  • @labarum312 Stan Jonathan wanted to fight him and he kicked his ass

  • @diviamush The only fight I remember between them was pretty more wrestling and nothing much happened. I even checked online to see if I had missed something but t seems like some people cofuse Jonathan vs. Robinson with Jonathan vs. Pierre Bouchard. Jonathan wiped Bouchard up in that one and left him bloodied.

  • @diviamush Here's the Johnathan-Bouchard fight: /watch?v=yOcgsBruIAU

Bouchard looks kind of like Robinson so its easy to see how they would get confused.

  • @labarum312 You're right. I stand corrected.

  • That was quite a doneybrook. Those damn animals.Come to Boston and we will educate you on manners and politeness..Shame on you for acting that way.Terry O`Reilly,Jay Miller,Lyndon Byers and Stan Jonathan and don`t forgot that hairy bastard Wensink would be very disappointed.Hows that for politeness.

  • @openedup09 actually brown is would beat the fuck outta ll these names!

  • @khav11 Ya probaly when he played for Edmonton but not when he played for that faggy Philadelphia city.

  • Hockey fans go nuts over fights that go nowhere. Robinson got in some meaningless blows because he had leverage. The crowd will inevitably go wild if a player starts swinging wildly, no matter what he hits (usually air or shoulder pads as both players crumble in a heap as the zebras take control).

  • This appears to be a kinescope of NBC's broadcast of said brawl.

In all likelyhood, the original color telecast probably doesn't exist anymore.

  • Guy the Flower wearing a helmet???wtf

  • @Renzonator He wore it in his first year which was not very good. He got rid of it the next year and his carrer took off

  • Robinson cut him a new ass hole. Shultz wasnt long backing his ass out of there and getting lost in the crowd. the beginning of the end of the Flyers.

  • Robinson gets a beer from a fan! aha classic

  • i admittingly enjoyed watching Robinson pound on Schultz. Robinson was an all star player who obviously could fight when he had to , Schultz was just a goon with limited skills.

  • @moecreek70 Believe it, or not, Schultz led the Flyers in shooting % in 73-74, when he scored 20 goals. 200 points in just over 500 NHL games isn't all that bad, for the time period. Schultz was a goon, but more like Bob Probert, not Marty McSorley. Not standing up for Schultz. First time I watched this, all I could do was scream, "GET HIM, LARRY!" Very happy to see Robinson jackhammer Schultz!!!

  • @moecreek70 500% agree! Robinson was not a guy who was seeking for a fight but when the need be, he was there to defend his playmates and he won all the fights he's been involved in!

  • @moecreek70 - You do know that Schultz had a 20-goal season, right? There's a vast difference between the goon of the 70s, and today's who score maybe 2-3 a season.

  • @moecreek70 schultz scored 20 goals in the first cup year. Beyond respectable even in todays 82 game season. Do some research before you spout off about stuff you don't understand.

  • @cjmac19 wow 20 goals , suprised he didn't break all of gretzkys records. schultz is brainless just like yourself

  • Is Robinson getting a drink from a fan near the boards? lol

  • This is classic footage. I watched this live and to see it again is great. YouTube is the greatest.

  • montreal sucks-philly rules-broad street bullies, philly always took care of buisness,go flyers best team in hockey today....

  • Maybe ponyboy has been punched in the head too many times.........OR not enough.......Hard to tell

  • non mais y'en manges-tu une tabarnak?!!!

  • Look at that finger pointed right at Dupont by Larry. He was famous for that finger. Ken Dryden mentions this in his book, The Game.

  • Wow, what a fun video to watch.

It sure seems like one of the posters here is out of his fucking mind!

  • That fight is the prototype on Schultz. He wanted nothing to do with Robinson. He was only good for cheap shots like that entire Flyers bunch.

  • Anyone else notice Larry Robinson get handed a drink from the stands? (I could be wrong round 5:05

  • i loved oldtime hockey these were the real players larry robinson, bobby clarke, gordie howe, rocket richard, tiger williams, eddy shack it goes on and on. and wat makes me mad is how these greats make hockey today look like an on ice dating session.. wat the hell happened to our league we have way to many sweedish and russian players in our nhl today thats y its the pussy sport it is today. now there is suspensions for clean hits wat the fuck so wat u got a concussion fuckin toughen up WAKE UP NHL

  • I never saw Larry Robinson lose a fight.

  • Schultz was shitting in his hockey pants. You could see it in his eyes and he got his bully ass kicked uin REAL good.Never ever forgot this. Was LONG due this dirty hair pulling, spitting bastard

  • How ironic to see the Broad Street Bullies getting bullied.

  • The Flyers were always cowards. Always cheap shots. Always jumping in when when of their guys got hit even once in a fight, even Schultz. Always the lowest class of the league.

  • I was born in 1972 so I missed all this fighting era.....

  • I've watched many Flyers fights from this era. More than a few have 3rd man in incidents once the Flyer fighter started to lose. It seemed commonplace for that era.

  • Old time hockey!

  • That's exactly the type of treatment that all Flyers deserve!

Remember that next time you see someone walking down the street with a Flyers Jersey on - that's not a human being but a no good cretin that deserves a massive beating.

All Flyers and their fans must be continually beat on for eternity - so sayeth the lord.

Flyers are descendants of Cro-Magnum man and are a retarded, non literate subspecies of mutant Orangutan!

Flyers must be beat on - Robinson understood this and gave Shultz his due

  • @bluesgurugod agreed! are you describing Flyers fans or most americans? LOL...it's like being a Leafs fan: it's a disease that may be treatable. And then Flyers never won another Cup again...how fitting.

  • @bluesgurugod Amen!

  • @bluesgurugod you're gay

  • @bluesgurugod If you're going to insult people for being "retarded" you might want to learn to spell and use proper grammar. Cro MAGNUM?!?!

Anyway, Schultz DID deserve that. He was a fucking clown and a traitor to the game.

  • @bluesgurugod we dont take shit from nobody im telling you dont fuck with us

  • @bluesgurugod and what makes you any better?

  • @bluesgurugod Schultz was bad ass. P.S. way to insult every person in the USs 2nd most populated city on something that's completely un true. It just so happens that the Philly is has the most hard ass italian and irish people minus the faggy buisness men of NYC.

  • @LambOfJesus360 2nd?... I don't think so...

    NY (met pop) 19 million

    LA - close to 13 m

    Chicago - 10 m

then maybe even houston b4 greater philly... (even Toronto is bigger than Philly... )

  • @bluesgurugod 2nd if you include suburbs.

  • @LambOfJesus360 not even close... I included the metropolitan areas - google it...

  • @bluesgurugod why should flyers fan get beatin up when they are some of tthe best in the league

  • yeah schultz got his ass kicked but u can clearly tell he wasnt interested in the fight

  • @bluesgurugod Well arn't you a pleasent human being. The ignorance and diregard that maybe some Flyers fan can actually be human beings is just fucking unbeleiveable.

  • @bluesgurugod even their fans?

  • How awesome was this?? Henri Richard jumping Clark and Robinson thumping on Schultz!! Love old time hockey!

  • Robinson sharing a drink with the fans at 5:05 (lol).

  • definitely wasnt the '76 finals since Ashbee was here.

  • Which game was this? It's too bad Montreal is no longer a "standard" in the NHL. Carolina winning the Stanley Cup?

  • Big bird ended the broad street bullies reign on the league.

  • I was shocked to see that the Flyers were allowed to ice a team for the 2010-11 season. I couldn't believe it ! After the worse performance in Stanley Cup Playoff History, they are back to stink up the NHL once again. What is wrong with this League ? Can anyone tell me ?

  • @wilfrid55 did you even watch the playoffs? If you consider going down 3-0 as the 7 seed and winning the series..then going on to the Finals a bad performance, you don't know anything about sports.

  • @kda5 - but those Flyers just keep on losing and they have ugly uniforms...truly insufferable....ever since Robinson put Doernhoffer through the boards in'76, it's been a big goose egg every year for that goddam useless franchise...

  • @wilfrid55 You sound like a bitter Habs fan. How'd the playoffs go for you ? You mad?

  • @wilfrid55 - i stopped being mad ever since Robinson put Dornhoffer through the boards back in '76, the Habs went on to win 4 straight and the Flyers never won again. Hockey really sucks now, so I just watch this YouTube video of the Habs beating the worst team in sports history - the Flyers. Did I mention they had ugly uniforms...?

  • I just watched a classic 1980 game Leaf s vs Flyers and what do you know they were still slimy cunts lead by Clark slashing Pat Hickey in the face and Holmgren that piece of crap attacking Laurie Boschman.

  • Ha ha.. it's always fun seeing the Broad Street Bullies getting their ass whipped-particularly that loser Schultz!

  • GO HABS GO! Big Bird beat the crap out of him!

  • dupont,,i'd like to cut his throat!

  • LOL, love seeing Schultz getting his ass kicked so bad. Too bad Domi didn't play back then, he would have bitch slapped him too. Oh well, at least Clark Gillies made Schultz look like a boy too.

  • @nikkoo1217 Domi was way too small to deal with Schultz. You must be a Leafs fan.

  • @kda5

Are you kidding? Schultz was a big pussy, Domi would go through him like a hot knife through butter.LOL

  • @nikkoo1217 you clearly don't know anything about the history of the game. If you ask anyone that played in that era, they'll tell you how wrong you are. I met Clark Gillies around 15 years ago...when I told him I was a Flyers fan he proceeded to explain how fearful the league was of the Flyers, and Schultz in particular. Not sure if you know who Gillies is, but he was an extremely tough man.

  • @kda5

Yes, I know who Gillies was, he kicked Schultz's ass too. As for history, the Flyer players of that era have alot to be ashamed of in my opinion...even Schultz has expressed regret about how they "played" the game.

  • LOL, love seeing Schultz getting his ass kicked so bad. Gillies made him look like a little boy too,LOL

  • Between Clark Gillies giving him the news and Robinson slapping him silly, Shultz was exposed as the little baby bully who got called to task.

  • Phillie has always be an absolute FUCKING disgrace, fuckin losers

  • flyer bitch needed help!LOL

  • Robinson said to dupont "your the next body" at 3:00,and look Robinson take a glass of beer from a fan at 5:00,Dupont voulait sauver la face à Shultz parce qu'il était en train d'en manger une maudite...Pis Robinson qui prends un verre de bierre d'un spectateur... vive les années 70.

  • people are too over exaggerative, it wasnt a long fight and not the best fight, edge robinson but he didnt get "jacked" "taken to the cleaners" or anything like that both teams won their cups and payed their dues to hockey theres gona be good guys and theres gona be bad guys just enjoy it

  • give it to 'em robinson!

  • robinson jacked him

  • WTF I give the edge to the Bird. But by no means di he kick Schultzie's ass. Not a bad bout

  • Part of the backstory - during the scrum that ensued at the end of the period, Schultz roamed around and intentionally ended up paired with Guy Lafleur (look carefully - Lafleur - number 10 - at that point wearing white helmet). This is what incensed Robinson more than anything (classic Schultz - go after the non-fighting star). Robinson goes in, pulls Schultz away from Lafleur, and basically says, 'You touch, you die'. And the rest is history.

  • You see Robinson pointing at Dupont at 3:30. Whoaaa boy.

  • You can tell that Schultz is concerned, he's not taking it to Larry right away. That's half the battle right there.

  • god bless this sport and god bless the habs!! robinson was one badass mafucka.

  • Larry Robinson was easily a top 3 fighter when he was active, (he seldom fought at all post 79,) and he freaking OWNED the Cryers on this night.

  • Larry was a class act...took allot to get him to go.

  • Wow, Look at Schultz the "Coward" run when a "real" fighter shows up. lol. Thank you , Larry !!

  • @MJkate ... and ten times as many knuckles as men!!! However, @Lisha616, Larry, in his formative years, once took on a heavyweight and learned about the pecking order. It was a Buffalo player and I believe his name was Larry Playfair. I may be mistaken.

  • Broad Street Pussies!

  • go to hell fxxx american bastards!!!

  • on a lighter note:

theres over 200 pounds of hair on that ice.......not including mustaches'

  • HaHaHa. Big bird hammers the hammer.

  • Bob-the-nob Clark...biggest hacker to ever lace up skates and a coward.

  • Schultz was out of his league when he actually had to fight someone who could fight and he didn't have 8 Flyers next to him ready to break it up.

  • To quote Vancouver-based punk/hardcore legends D.O.A.:

"This is no brouhaha, it's a total donnybrook!!!"

    D.O.A.

    "Donnybrook"

    Northern Avenger

    Sudden Death Records

  • Usually, it was the goons and tough guys who took on Shultz. When Robinson, who as a future Hall of Famer, beat Shultz it was the end of the Shultz and Flyer tough-guy myth.

  • have u ever played a famous Larry? (:

Sometimes i think that fightning is retarded action.

Both are classic guys, Robinson was great player.

He EDGED Schultz in this okay tilt.

  • Larry Robinson never looked for fights...but when need be he was their for his players. Strong son of a gun!!!!!! Those were the days. Cheers Big Bird...you were and always will be one of the best.

  • yea...but these teams (74/75, 74/75 Flyers) gave hope to a city of losers at the time. Bad economy, lockouts, strikes...just a bad time in Philadelphia's history. Then a bunch of crazy Canadians came to Philly..it took 7 years, but they brought home back to back cups for the years as stated. NHL Season 1973/1974...Cup, 1974/1975...cup!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • every time Schultz was getting his ass kicked Moose Dupont would muzzle the other guy. that always pissed you off.

  • hahahahahahahhahahah i never get tired of seeing a bully when he meets a real man how he cowers--schultz is a dirty low-life pig who got his faggot ass whipped---ye yeah

  • It's in moments of intense crisis that a man's true character comes out and I think it's true of a team too. What do the Flyers do in a moment of crisis when their goon is getting his goofy face pounded? They cheat; they send in a second goon to try to bail out the first goon. As for Bobby Clarke - dirtiest player of the '70s. He did major damage to the career of the best forward in the world, Valerie Kharmalov, and how? By cheating. Gravestone: Bobby Clarke - Cheater.

  • Schultz? Probert would also have cleaned your clock !! Way to go Robinson, Big Bird !!

  • Love when Larry points at someone basically saying"you're next". Classic

  • It's always refreshing seeing these videos where the overrated Schultz get his!

  • i remember robinson roughly checked former hab rogie vachon into the boards in montreal. the kings mike corrigan came in to defend vachon but was no match for robinson.the montreal fans were booing(whistling, jeering robinson. rogie was still beloved in montreal

  • I love how how Big Bird gets up and pretty well says "Ok I'm done with you....you're next!"..lol

  • I think this was a kinescope of an NBC telecast, as I recognize Tim Ryan and "Terrible" Ted Lindsey as commentators.

Philadelphia backup goalie Bobby Taylor (who came off the bench) went on to be (and I think still is) the analyst for local Philadelphia Flyers' broadcasts and supposedely is one of the best broadcast analysts in the league.

  • schultz the pussy cant beat a real man---has to pick on non-fighters like dale rolfe--ill alwys hate him for being a punk

  • Shultz didn't want anything to do with Robinson... it was obvious.... Larry Robinson was a monster and nobody fucked with him through out his career.

  • Is it just me or did Schultz want nothing to do with Big Bird??

  • Mayhem!!!!! isnt this wild ... Imagine watching this live. Im 30 and have never seen anything close to it. The passion is unmatched compared to todays game.

  • It simply amazes me that people just can't let go of the hate that they hold for the Flyers and Schultz, even after all of these years!

Schultz paved the way for enforcers of today and was one of the fiercest players ever, but he could play the game too and had a few good years where he put up some decent numbers on top of establishing the highest PIM total of all time.

Robinson was an GREAT Defensemen and was a BIG dude. There's no shame in losing to Robinson.

  • @Kurzgan i,m not a hockey but watched hbo special.the flyers talked tough in the show and yes schutz beat alot of ass but watching all these videos i see when ever schultz is getting his ass kicked the flyers all jump in to stop it.so hes not as tough as he says.

  • I love how the police cleared the photographers off the ice, and let the melee ensure (as they should have).

  • putting on the foil

  • When was the last NHL bench brawl? Do they even have them anymore?

  • Larry Robinson will always be my hero.

  • lol@the announcers blaming Van Boxmeer rather than Schultz for the cheap shot.

  • Glad there are no more brawls, but Schutlz got what was coming to him.

  • larry robinson is a tall douchebag

    GO SCHULTZ

  • Big Bird cleans up on Shultz!!! I loved that game.

  • this was when hockey was hockey love it.

  • Philly was a classless black eye on the NHL.....Fortunately, the Habs spanked them well that season

  • @Shoknifeman ur a just pussy i guess

  • @comeasur1054 - And you're sooooooooo classy....sarcasm

  • @Shoknifeman actually this is the year they won thier first cup barry ashbee #4 had to retire at the end of this season after he took a shot to the eye in the playoffs against the rangers 73-74 season

  • The funniest part was when the 2 flyer players came over at 0:22 and i thought they were checking up on the guy that was on the ice....but they just came over to pick up some equipment...lol

  • Excellent footage!!! Bravo!!!!

  • Sure miss these good old fashioned brawls. The intesity of the games in the seventies will never be seen again. Great video!

  • Wasn't it great when players could police themselves?...This was my favourite era of hockey(granted I wasn't around for the original 6)

I believe that after this fight,no one fucked with Robinson.

  • my dad was at this game. he new of larry robinson from the jr habs before he joined the big club. What people don't realize is that larry robinson left the ice before the benches cleared. thats why he is so late. my pops said he watched him come out of tunnel and knew he was on his way to pummel shultz. its tough to see the big shots he landed

  • schultz had no chance, no chance at all. He usually lost his fights to the ones who knew how to fight.

  • Boy did Schultz got hammered by Robinson. That was when the ugly Broad Street bullies hockey ended. The message was clear, the habs were showing the rest of the hockey world it was the end of the Flyer style hockey. The Flyers never really got out of their misery after that.

  • @tristanbelair where exactly did he get hammered? You mean the 2 or 3 punches to the side of the head?

  • what a pussy shultz was getting help gimme a break. he was a true GOON couldnt skate, shoot, stick handle anything and he went after non fighters...bitch

  • Right around the 2:00 minute mark you can see Schultz sh***** his pants.

  • All the players you mention were wimpy, with McSorley the wimpiest. But Schultz would certainly hold his own against them.

  • Schultz flourished in the non-steroid era...different animal. Larry Robinson was the real deal. Never saw him fight much mostly because players feared him. I bet Schultz was a little surprised by Robinson's fighting ability....

  • Schultz is lucky he didn't play in the era of Probert, Kocur and McSorley, He wouldn't have lasted a season.

  • Ah, the golden age of hockey...when men were men and women brought us beer.

  • @garygw and stayed in the kitchen

  • one of the most overrated fights.
