As a teen I saw this car race at Riverside in the mid 60's. Faster than the entire field, would blow clouds of dust out the back. The fan engines were problematic. I saw the wing cars run too...

Wild car to drive in GT5 - really fast and corners well on flat ground, but things get interesting as soon as you hit a bump and the skirts lose contact with the road... Fun to drive though and sounds really cool.

No more than any other race car ! It was banned because it completely wasted the competition, not only with sheer speed but because it blew track debris out the back into the cars following !! The speed off the starting line in this clip is staggering !

Back in 1970 this thing would eat f1 cars whole, cam-am was basically without rules(the main one was that the cars must be open cockpit and the wheels must be covered).

Anything else went.... engines and aerodynamics. This came along way before the brabham fan-car what Lauda won with in Sweden.

Jim Hall was possibly the most innovative designer of all time, and I'm pretty sure had he made it into f1 design, he would have been mentioned in the same league as Colin Chapman and Adrian Newey.

@82coxy The fans suck the air out from under the car literally pulling it to the ground, much like a pool vacuum, creating a down force on the car without the use of wings. This allowed the car to have downforce even in slow corners.
