I have removed all my posts on this thread because an over-patriotic and rude fellow-American with limited knowledge of history has chosen this interesting clip to be his vehicle for denigrating British achievements. I think it is sad that Bomberguy's work is hijacked by those who seek to stir up argument and hatred, and I will not be part of it.
Again wrong. First, let me say I think the VC-10 was a BEAUTIFUL aircraft, and a great piece of history. However, like most British aircraft, it was built to meet the very specific requirements of British airlines with little attention to the aircraft being able to appeal to other carriers around the world. Contrarily, the 707 was built to meet the needs to a wide range of customers. Hence most everyone knowing what a 707 is, and only the aviation community knowing what a VC10 was.
Wrong, but I doubt you want to understand fact...you clearly are too devoted to your version of reality to bother understanding things from an objective stance. Hey, next are you going to enlighten us on how 9/11 was a giant US-manufactured conspiracy? That would be fun, right?! You could probably even find a way to make it a giant US plot to get British soldiers killed in Americas dirty war!
You are the one putting words in my mouth. And it is good you are done posting comments - because you serve only to embarrass yourself. Despising America so much as to not give it any credit for any victories in WW2 is no less ignorant as a person who would suggest we won the war single-handedly, which I never said.
I am not sure why I am responding to you, as you are clearly a ranting lunatic, but if it wasn't for big evil America rescuing your choking island in WW2, you would be speaking German right now, you fool.
Perhaps YOU need to brush up on history. Firstly: Britain did not so much thwart the invasion as they did get lucky that Hitler foolishly turned away from Britian when the RAF was 1-2 weeks from being destroyed. Second, the Afrika Korps was routed only when the US arrived and opened up a Western front in Africa. Third, Germany was FAR from losing the battle of Russia when we joined the war in 1941. Fourth: Why exactly do you hate your own country so much?
I know all this. But yes, Britian DID get lucky. They WERE on the verge of collapse. Had Hitler continued for another two weeks or so, even despite the foolish strategy switch to bombing British cities, the RAF would have not been able to cover enough of the Luftwaffe's attacks to mount a real defense. Then, Operation Sea Lion would have been launched.
The commercial and combat aircraft of the future will be built in Europe and Asia, and the USA will find itself increasingly cap-in-hand. The great USA is in decline and elitist criticism such as Fordroad hands out will pale against the enormity of growing poverty
as successive governments scrape up every dollar to prop up their fading lead in technology.
Yes, Boeing will suddenly be transported to Venus and Lockheed will be converted to building children's playground equipment.
There. Now you have two more just as likely scenarios for you to consider.
I have no idea what "fordroad" tried to write, but your statement is beyond foolish. The industrial core of the United States is not only booming, but it's basically untouched by even the recent economic issues due to cash in reserve and excess capacity.
I'll say it again Britain a country that had not realized after WW2 poor designs, marketing off the planet all based on propeller engines. They just did not understand USA rules from the time Boeing developed the B29 long range bomber and the were developing an series of aircraft on a Billion dollar budget to deliver of atomic bombs deep into the Russia ( Soviet Union ). Poor old pommies as always left behind the poor cousins of the great USA.

The fact of the matter remains that I have not once insulted you. Unless you consider someone daring not agree with you to be an "insult."

One relatively unsuccessful aircraft out of how many? They built the Concorde and Chunnel-must have done something right.

By the way, the Avro Tudor was a truly awful aircraft, but they can't all be gems I guess.

Nifty fantasy you have there, though.

Thanks for the update the British struggling to keep "up" with the modern world from 1945
living on past glorys, still today in 2008 the poor relation to USA. I guess you are something left over from that far away time.
Poor person.

Yet more ill-written, ungrammatical, rude nonsense. I think you should consult a psychiatrist. Failing that, jump off North Head.
