The music ties so much of FF6 together, and at the same time is what pushed it to great heights. Without voice acting so much relies on the music, and everything is punctuated and highlighted by it. These days voice acting tries to drown out what otherwise might be good or great music, or even trying to cover up for a weak soundtrack.
This is how you end a game, especially one that's consumed the last forty or so hours of your life!! When the prelude came on after completing it, I was on the verge of tears.
@NostalgicSince2005 Indeed. I mean, I don't mind if you add extra secrets to the remake to give the players something new to look for... like even a Aerith resurrection wouldn't be too bad if it was optional although then again they'd have to change the course of the story somewhat but honestly choosing how certain things played out was what made the old RPGs so much fun. Nowadays it's cinematic and you don't get a say in anything.

In some ways I'm thankful that this game didn't make FF popular mainstream as VII did. VII has unfortunately been hit hard by sequelitis, each prequel or sequel doing more and more damage to it I'm sad to say, but this game remains untouched. It's one of the greatest games I've ever played and as of now, it is easily the best Final Fantasy.
and one more thing, ive played this game once i beat it and it really is THE best final fantasy to date probably the best to ever be, and when the end came i cried it left me pretty sad if only they could do a proper remake it was too good
Ya know people say theres always something to improve, but im pretty sure this is one of VERY few things that is totally perfect in every way. No, i don't think a game gets any better than this. Theres too many things i can rant about to say how i love this game lol. This game will always have a place in my heart. Best game ever!
This was a great game, very great. And holy shit the composer of the music has true talent now that I really listen to it. At the time I didn't care as much. Especially from 4:48 on, correct me if I'm wrong, the original FF theme song starts at that point.
Great stuff. I'd play this game again for sure If I had an SNES or knew how to work an emulator.
@Rushthatspeaks Nobuo Uematsu man, Nobuo Uematsu. Just imagine FF6 WITHOUT the music, it plays such a paramount part of the game. He was the heart and soul of Final Fantasy. The series 'died a little' when he stopped doing the music for them.
He really culminated a masterpiece here. He went from programing background songs in FF1 to building a tapestry of melodies in FF4 to composing a digital symphony in FF6.
I'm currently enrolled in your basic, run of the mill, Music Appreciation class. Just learning about music in general makes me appreciate the form, and structure of the whole ending. This, and the opera scene, are easily two of Uematsu's best works.
I Don't Know About You Guys, But I Think This Game Should Be For DS. I Think The Same With Final Fantasy V To. THumbs Up If You Think So. P.S. THIS IS THE BEST ENDING I EVER SAW :D
"At the end of the game Terra was supposed to disappear with the Espers for good, but the development team decided that it would be "going too far" and so they made her stay alive, just without the magic part of her being." Sources: Final Fantasy Wiki
yippie. never got tired of this ending. haven't played this game in over a decade. i hope the rumors are true of a remake of this game. an excuse to buy the new gameboy 3D if anything...
I think it's a very happy, uplifting ending. Kefka is gone. The world can now begin healing. And more importantly: Magic is gone. Everyone can't wait to just live out normal lives.
@snesmoogle Techinically, there were 12 (13 if you count the DS port). :P But we'll assume that I am talking about the official, canon ending, of course.
The plot would be more on how everyone moved on and their personal challenges and how well the world recovered. The villain wouldn't be as hardcore and insane as Kefka but still just because he is gone, that doesn't mean there will be no more evil.
@SailorSaturn69 Yeah, but then it would be a FF game with no magic. Unless the new villain tried to bring back the magic to the world, but then it would be like a redundant version of FFVI's plot.
Final Fantasy 4 will always be my favorite Final Fantasy game and RPG of all time. As far as Final Fantasy goes, 6 is definitely second and then I would say 7. I consider 8 to be the worst of at least the Playstation one only because of its stupid story and the draw and stock system. But it did have the best composition of music. 9 was charming with its characters and 10 was good with its narration and progression of the story but towards the end it started sucking. 12 was too dang hard.
This was the greatest game ever made!! It is all because of the way the game ended. The storyline, theme, ending and especially the music made the entire game. Its amazing how the music in the credits were themed to each individual character. Still amazing years later.
This game was the most perfect RPG ever. and this game rewarded me with this perfect ending and my all-time favorite villain, Kefka. Hopefully Final Fantasy XV brings back the classic style with an unforgettable villain.
@xomegaX2x My Sister Will Definetly Say It's The Worst Of What You Say Is The Best. 'Cause Let Casi Play An Old Game, And Ka-Boom!!! She Goes Bonkers!
I know what you mean, when I first passed this game and saw Terra falling I thought that it has the end of her, then seeing her on the ship made me take a huge breath of relief. Just 5 days away from XIII... I hope it'll go back to the way RPGs used to be... intense plot, very well built characters, plot twist that'll make you stay up and not go to school the next day... Ohh the days where you got more out of what you paid for in a video game...
I probably liked FF IV better than this and I thought FF IV was the best FF, but this is definitely a very close second.
I always thought VII was overrated because the graphics at the time were great. VII in my opinion was one of the worst Final Fantasy games if not the worst. IX was trying to go back to the snes style, but it just wound up being an OK rpg rather than a good FF game. X I thought was really good. XI was stupid. XII had horrible gameplay. I just hope XIII is better than the last
Why do so many people believe that FFVII was better than this? This is one of the only games (not just role-playing) that truly made me care for the characters involved. No other FF game was able to stir up so much emotion inside of me (except FF II/IV).
I just finished this again and this ending still makes me emotional. Tara standing in the front of the airship letting her hair fly in the wind is probably the best moment in any FF.
Seeing this makes me wish someone would orchestrate the entire ending for FFVI. And I mean the table with items for each character, the airship escape AND the credit music. This and FF8's ending sequence are my top two as far as music goes.
Then again, there is a risk of them messing up the orchestral arrangement, just like it happened with Dancing Mad. =/
-sighs happily- The original NA release, back when it was miscounted as III- this was the first video game I ever played. It's always nice to come back to it. Big ol' rush of nostalgia, too. :)
That's the official FF ending music. It comes with most of the games... that's inclusive of FFXI the online one. It ends 4,6,7,8,9,11 and opens 12. It may be in more but those are the only ones i've played to completion
After all these years, this ending still brings a tear to my eye. Awesome game, and one of the best of the FF series. It definitely stands the test of time.
I wouldn't consider this ending sad because it feels more bittersweet than sad. It reminds me of the ending of Chrono Trigger a lot. It has a happy ending, but it's sad because you're pretty much saying goodbye to the amazing world you ventured in, to the amazing characters you were introduced to, and to the fantastic story you beheld. It's a happy ending, but it's sad because you must accept the reality that the story has ended.
I've never heard it put better! I'm just happy I was able to experience this world myself, and more than once, I might add. Not everyone can say the same.
It is better to have played FF VI and left it, than to never have played FF VI at all!
I'm still convinced Setzer is the main character. He can kill Kefka by hucking coins at him. How much mightier do you need to be? Plus he comes with an airship. Shoe-in for main.
I was 13 in 1994 ,during that summer vacation I finished FFVI 5 times a day just because I want to see this astonishing ending! Best ending ever !
FFVI have the best storyline ever! Every character have its sad story and questions about LOVE , which makes FFVI players can feel that they are all alive and not just a RPG character . Finally every character have answers to his questions.
This song is astonishing. I bought the FFVI Original Soundtrack in 1999 (for an obscene amount) & till this day, no other album compares. It is a masterpiece.
Gotta wonder where is Shadow in the ending. Gau, Gogo, Mog and Umaro the extra characters are there, but no Shadow. Before some of my friends say he was REALLY left behind and died in the World of Balance, but I say he must be down the deck healing since in the ending he was injured unlike the other party members.
when this was 1st released...it had the longest running time for an ending! i rmemeber clocking it to compare it to what nintendo power said lol
Best FF game here with VI and IX right behind. VII is the most overrated FF game out there and for those that think otherwise...you probably played VII before the others as most would say V is the best in teh series
FF VI remake on ps3 and xbox would be super great ;)
I started playing RPGs when I was seven years old. I remember the first two games I played were the original FF, the original Dragon Warrior, and Faxanadu (which wasn't turn-based more of a action/adventure) So I disagree with you on FFVII. I don't think you could ever "over-rate" a game as good as that. What I will say is that the old RPGs don't get enough respect, even from hardcore players. FFIII had a great story and FFVII had almost as good of a story and better characters. Two great games.
you seem to miss the point. FF7 is a good game but it is overrated by zealous 'american' gamers that was introduced to it when it was released on the ps. when you play a game for the 1st time, it creates teh 1st impression that is hard to get rid of and that is what FF7 did for alot of people.
true it is a great game, but the best rpg of all time? no it is not. chrono cross has been rated higher than ff7 as well as chrono trigger and ff6.
True, about gamers first experience with an RPG and it usually being their favorite. My favorite of the FFseries isnt the first one though, it is FFVII. FFIII is a close second for me. FFVI is the most underrated and the most overlooked of the series, it had the best class system of all the games. Past FFVII the series (with the exception of FFX) has been poor at best. I dont have a favorite of all time though, I think the whole thing is arbitrary and bullshit, I just like great games like FFIII
The first time I played this game...so many years ago, when I beat it..I must have stared at that THE END screen for about half an hour trying to absorb everything that I had just saw.
If this game doesn't validate video games as an art form, I don't know what the hell will.
on SNES and it doesn't need remakes with cool gapchic to be appreciated. Also, i lost faith in Square-Enix after the FFVII Colletion, so instead of a FFVI graphic "restyling", we'll have bunches of spin-offs that will ruin the magic of the original chapter. Sorry for my bad english.
(Sorry i was with a friend's account before) FFVI and VII are the best for me. Hard to tell wich one is better: FFVII has Sephiroth, that is worth the whole game, but all FFVI's characters are amazing and very well characterized. Too bad now we can't play a real FF anymore, cause Nomura isn't able to continue Sakaguchi's work, imho (i think FFX-2 and FFXII are average games and worst FFs ever). Anyway, i don't want a FFVI's remake/prequel/sequel/spin-off . i think I think FFVI is what we played>

in my opinion... 7 dominates them all.. amazing graphics at the time and one of the few games to have such a twist with a main character... and also having aeris die... although sad... fucking great story
this theme will always bring a tear and glow to every gamer's heart. whenever that song plays after a battle (such as FF6 ending now), you feel that you accomplished and awarded with that feeling in song after all those hardships. may it be passed to future generations ^^
so powerful, yet so unnoticed by many fans of the modern era. I was introduced to this game at the age of 6. I actually began playing it around the age 15 then later at 17. Definitely my favorite game of all time. Very powerful and intriguing story.
The ending of this always gave me goosebumps. Just as the ship flies high one last time, damn they made this game WAY too good for the SNES. I pray they do it for the DS, all 3d? Oh heck yes please D:
God I love this game, still do. you cant compare it to any other game around its just perfect in all areas. I had a blast playing it and I still do, you don't get that experience with many other games.
i watch this ending more then i can remember, back in the old super nintendo days. aww, makes you want to be 15 again. damn that was over 13years ago. how time flies! definitely one of my favorite & most memorable game. looking forward to becoming a 60+ year old video-game veteran on day playing final fantasy 20 perhaps?.
8 isnt terrible its on par with say 5 or 10 not this or 7. 9 and 4 is also better than 8. i havnt ranked 12 yet as i am lazy. also my rankings are offical as i say so
Each to his own I guess, 8 isnt terrible in my view, hell I wouldnt rate it as my favourite (That honour falls to 5 belive it or not) but its not terrible, I like the way the limits are now interactive and the graphics are amazing. The only FF Ive disliked thus far is 2 (not 4 I liked that)
Anyways Id say FF6 Ranks in at a close second in terms of my personal favourite, not everyone will agree with me but then theres the fun in it.
It's so Final Fantasy-like when there's a The End in a black screen and later, zooming through stars! I personally love this ending very much of the other Final Fantasy title I've played!
Bullshit. FFVII is overrated. This game was complete from start to finish, at the time anybody who played it literally shat their pants from the sheer awesomeness.
nooooooooooooo way i despise it when people tamper with old games/movies seriously they are all best as they are!!!! all the best games were on the NES, SNES, N64, and PS1. nothing needs to be changed about that
well...some people don't have the old systems. and this remake didn't change much. the old elements remained. the only difference is that this one looks better.
jonieboy24? more like fanboy24. FF6 and 7 both are great games, I love them equally. 8 is a piece of shit though and Squall can go climb a wall of dicks.
man, almost brought a tear, lol! man i was 13 when i beat this game and it is still the best ff game i ever played and i played them all. so many memories....

Every blue color turns to JOY at the ending!
FFVI is the best of all best!

This song is astonishing. I bought the FFVI Original Soundtrack in 1999 (for an obscene amount) & till this day, no other album compares. It is a masterpiece.

Last night... I finally finished completing Final Fantasy VI on the GBA.
I've had the game since late 2007 but what a piece of entertainment that
Square had given to us to play. Magnificent job.
Although i'm new to the FF franchise, this is my first game, out of many ff games that i have,
thats been completed.
sorry for my poor grammer. i'm dyslexic.
But what a piece of entertainment.

Shadow dies here at the end.

when this was 1st released...it had the longest running time for an ending! i rmemeber clocking it to compare it to what nintendo power said lol
Best FF game here with VI and IX right behind. VII is the most overrated FF game out there and for those that think otherwise...you probably played VII before the others as most would say V is the best in teh series
FF VI remake on ps3 and xbox would be super great ;)
vanchai1 3 years ago 6
I started playing RPGs when I was seven years old. I remember the first two games I played were the original FF, the original Dragon Warrior, and Faxanadu (which wasn't turn-based more of a action/adventure) So I disagree with you on FFVII. I don't think you could ever "over-rate" a game as good as that. What I will say is that the old RPGs don't get enough respect, even from hardcore players. FFIII had a great story and FFVII had almost as good of a story and better characters. Two great games.
LatexWizard 3 years ago
you seem to miss the point. FF7 is a good game but it is overrated by zealous 'american' gamers that was introduced to it when it was released on the ps. when you play a game for the 1st time, it creates teh 1st impression that is hard to get rid of and that is what FF7 did for alot of people.
true it is a great game, but the best rpg of all time? no it is not. chrono cross has been rated higher than ff7 as well as chrono trigger and ff6.
vanchai1 3 years ago 2
True, about gamers first experience with an RPG and it usually being their favorite. My favorite of the FFseries isnt the first one though, it is FFVII. FFIII is a close second for me. FFVI is the most underrated and the most overlooked of the series, it had the best class system of all the games. Past FFVII the series (with the exception of FFX) has been poor at best. I dont have a favorite of all time though, I think the whole thing is arbitrary and bullshit, I just like great games like FFIII
LatexWizard 3 years ago
FFVI > FFVII/FFVIII/FFIV > FFX/FFXII > FFV > any other FF > FFIX
Dude, FFIX was really bad for a Final Fantasy.
I could have accepted it, if it didn't come out with that name... but come on, a Final Fantasy game has to be better than that!
MasaruKato82 2 years ago
The first time I played this game...so many years ago, when I beat it..I must have stared at that THE END screen for about half an hour trying to absorb everything that I had just saw.
If this game doesn't validate video games as an art form, I don't know what the hell will.
Timeless.

on SNES and it doesn't need remakes with cool gapchic to be appreciated. Also, i lost faith in Square-Enix after the FFVII Colletion, so instead of a FFVI graphic "restyling", we'll have bunches of spin-offs that will ruin the magic of the original chapter. Sorry for my bad english.
Sephiroth574 3 years ago
(Sorry i was with a friend's account before) FFVI and VII are the best for me. Hard to tell wich one is better: FFVII has Sephiroth, that is worth the whole game, but all FFVI's characters are amazing and very well characterized. Too bad now we can't play a real FF anymore, cause Nomura isn't able to continue Sakaguchi's work, imho (i think FFX-2 and FFXII are average games and worst FFs ever). Anyway, i don't want a FFVI's remake/prequel/sequel/spin-off . i think I think FFVI is what we played>

so powerful, yet so unnoticed by many fans of the modern era. I was introduced to this game at the age of 6. I actually began playing it around the age 15 then later at 17. Definitely my favorite game of all time. Very powerful and intriguing story.

FF8 is a terrible game, I don't know how you can compare FF8 with this. Or 4 or 5, 7, 9.
ultima184 3 years ago
8 isnt terrible its on par with say 5 or 10 not this or 7. 9 and 4 is also better than 8. i havnt ranked 12 yet as i am lazy. also my rankings are offical as i say so
illustratedcore 3 years ago
Each to his own I guess, 8 isnt terrible in my view, hell I wouldnt rate it as my favourite (That honour falls to 5 belive it or not) but its not terrible, I like the way the limits are now interactive and the graphics are amazing. The only FF Ive disliked thus far is 2 (not 4 I liked that)
Anyways Id say FF6 Ranks in at a close second in terms of my personal favourite, not everyone will agree with me but then theres the fun in it.
