  • so true =], i went to a mac store once and there were so many brushes, didn't know which one to get, i'm glad i cam across this vid, now i know hehe but earlier today i did a little research on mac brushes of which ones to buy first, like the basic ones and stuff so yeahhh...

  • LOVE this tutorial. All the MAC talk in other you tuber tutorials gets confusing!

  • new subscriber here. you're great and very informative :] thanks

  • Great review. I am loving your channel!!

  • Well gracias sir! This was quite helpful :)

  • Thanks for all ur tips!!

  • Thanks Koren! :) I was wondering though, will I still need a 224 if I already have a 217? Or which of these 2 brushes do you prefer better?

  • Very informative - thank you so much!

  • I love your show! Thankyou for all the tips! What paint brush would you recommond for MAC 224?? Thankyou!!

  • when should we use synthetic brushes, and how many of each brush do you recommend we have as an artist.

  • they work well for conceler. and packing on eyeshadow on your eye lid. like powder shadows.

  • So what are real ones good for?

  • what are real ones good for? lol huh? i dont understand..do u mean what r good brushes?

  • if your applying eyeshadows wet do you still use a primer?

  • You should, it will help to prevent creasing, even when using the shadows wet, it can still happen.

  • Enkore has spoken about art brushes as have several other makeup artists on youtube. They cost less and in many cases are much much better - some people just have to have that brandname though. I took pictures and descriptions of some of the brushes and bought some loew cornell, Simmons (?) all high quality, not cheap but compared to MAC they are. I would do that before buying on ebay or the cheap sites as you waste money. I bought some on ebay and all they did was lose hair all over the place.

  • Is there a lot of difference between a 217 and a 222???

  • yes. the 217 is a lot more dense.

  • can you use a primer with a cream eyeshadow?

  • yes, but let the primer set first.

  • Is there a alternative to the Mac 219? I would love to have something like that.

  • best one is the one from Sigma

  • Could you be more specific? Is there a number to it? Please let me know

  • its is called the ss219

  • I bought a brush very similar at Hobby Lobby in the paintbrush section and it was much much cheaper and I love it. If you can copy a picture of the brushes and take it with you it makes it easier to find what you want. I wasted a lot of money on brushes on Ebay that were supposed to be good and they leave hair all over my face it is annoying. I will only get the high quality art brushes, MAC or sephora. Knock off brands are just that :O)

  • your knowledge of all things makeup is so extensive, its really awesome that you're willing to share it with everyone. your advice and review videos are so helpful! thank you so much for sharing and helping all of us.

  • Hi Enkore, I just wanted to say I am a beginner and I love this video, and I wanted to ask a question, all of these brushes look great! but as a beginner I really cannot afford MAC brushes so if possible could you tell me these brushes in the Lowe Cornell that I would need to buy in order to have these?

  • You can buy a set of Coastal Scents that are comparable to MAC.

  • thanks a lot... this video make clear idea about eyeshadow brush!!!

  • Hi Koren! Would you say, that the new 226 from the BBR LE is similar to the 223, because it seems to be quite pointed and soft at the same time?? Or is it more like the 224? I just can't decide, which one to get :/

Thanks for the great videos anyways!

  • more like a 217 if thats round instead of flat-ish, and has dark bristles. Its definitely smaller than a 224.

  • I always come back to this video! such a great help!

  • Thank you very much. I am from germany and I undersand not everything, becouse my english is not so good. But you speek slowly an that is good. You help me with this Video. Thank you and good by from Germany :-)

  • This is SO HELPFUL!

  • I got my sister a set of MAC brushes for her prom, also the occasion of her first makeup application by a MAC pro and I did the same for my daughter for her college graduation. Funny thing about that - I never thought of asking for brushes for Christmas or a birthday for ME! This year for sure.

  • hi koren, what should i do if i over conditioned my brush?it became too soft

  • omg thank you soo much ive had so much trouble figuring out what brushes to buy since they are so expensive i didnt want to buy the wrong one! thanks for making the video!

  • i know this is weird but you have VERY straight teeth....yea

  • what Mac brush do you recommend for blending for a person with small eyes?

  • the new brush 226!

  • @sweet8225 i have a similar brush from a compay called Quo (only in Canada). it's their crease blending brush.

  • Can someone tell me what Loew Cornell brush I can use for the MAC 224 and 217...PLEASE, PLEASE HELP

  • the 224 is a loew cornell Ann's Mop round, and the 217 is the Ann's Mop flat.

  • I really need a 222... Its not like i dont have enough already. LOL Love the video thanks.

  • Thank you. I am ordering these brushes today with the MAC sale! Ordering the 219, 217, 239 and 224 as per your recommendations! Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU for helping me be confident.

    Love you

  • i like the sonia riekel (SP??) from target.

  • What about Sephora Brushes? How do they Rate in the Makeup World.

  • i use 10 brushes--my fingers

  • YUKL bacteria all over your make up NICE...

  • this is a really good video, i've learned a lot, i am a beginner, i hope i could get better and better on make up. thanks

  • what are the best brushes on the market? xx

  • Hi Enkore, thanks for this video, i have one question which brush shell i buy 117 or 224?????

    thanks in advance

  • 117? or 217?

  • That was great :-) Your video and instructions clarified a lot of things I was confused about re what brush does what. Thanks heaps :-)

  • I LOVE your videos...they are so instructional! Can you do a video on contouring? I have no idea what products to use or how to use them....

  • Are those brushes the same as the mac holiday sale brushes? Is mac holiday sale brushes good?

  • the holiday sets are factory made brushes and they have shorter handles. the regular brushes are man made (much better quality) and have longer handles. but the brush sets are still great for beginners!

  • This was fantastic! Thank you!!!

  • What makeup would you recoomend that natural for a teen but still makes a difference and look good?

  • this is by far one of the best info videos I have seen yet.I have watched countless tutorials with the uses of these brushes, but not ever was it really mentioned in detail as to why certain brushes are used. So bravo to you and thanks!

  • great info!!!!!!!!! thank you

  • i went to the mac store and the artist recommended me the mac 252 brush.. as a concealer brush.what do u think of that? should I keep it or return it?

  • the 242 is better. 194 is the proper MAC concealer brush so check that out too.

  • Is there a Loew Cornell brush I can use for the MAC 219????? I really want this brush but I can't pay that for it. Please let me know.

    Charlotte

  • the closest I saw is called a Loew Cornell Dome brush. Its in the natural bristle section at michaels with green handles.

  • HI EnKore! your channel is very helpful with all the tips you are sharing. I was just wondering if the MAC brush sets are good buys??? although i still need the MAC 224 because they dont have it in their set brushes and i heard great reviews about the MAC 224. I bought all the MAC gift sets because it's cheaper. Thank you for all the tips and demo, it was really helpful. Happy Holidays to you and let's all stay pretty.

  • this vid helped me alot. thx so much

  • I love all your videos

what do think about the MAC skin care line

  • for the most part, theyre pretty ok, but if you're comparing to say Clinique who really specializes in Skincare, I think they still have a few things to work on.

  • koren, i watch alot of makeup tutorials on youtube but you are far and away the best! how do you intuitively know exactly what we need and still manage to stay so down to earth and genuine? you rock!

  • awe... thanks! I just keep it real, and try to cover things that others don't. There are many beauty gurus here and we are all here to help everyone out.

  • what's the best way to organize all the brushes inside a belted makeup brushbag?

  • I arrange mine the way I use them -- starting with Foundation brush, Face Brush, Powder brush -- then the eye brushes -- the blush and skin finishing brushes -- the lip brushes. So I simply just go down the line...

  • i WAS WATCHiNG THiS && MY M0M CALLED ME && ASKED WHAT BRUSHES i WANTED!! l0l i SENT HER A TXT WANTiNG ((#224,239)) && 0THER LiP PRODUCTS!!

    =)

  • <3 <3 <3!!!!

  • Would you prefer the 217 or 224?

  • 217, cuz its more multi use.

  • Thank you so much!

  • thank you! this video was so helpful!!

i love all your videos, they are all very informative...

    (:

  • thanks for another very instructional video Koren!

Question from one MUA to another: do you ever have clients who are not keen on the white bristled brushes? i went to a workshop not too long ago and the instruction suggested we never use white or light colored bristle brushes because they tend to always look dirty and this may offend your clients. your opinion on this sir?

Ms. Insanity (a. k. a. Karen in Maryland)

  • You always make sure you always use prestine clean brushes on clients -- and what impresses them most is using super clean white bristles, because it makes them more confident that you use real clean tools on them.

  • OMG i love brushes

    and now im smarter

    ENCORE ROCKS!!!

  • Thank you! Very useful and informative.

  • THANKK YOUU! i've been trying to figure out which mac brushes i wanted without asking the MUAs, u saved me so much effort!

  • you remind me of jon from Jon and kate

  • Hi! i just can´t get enough of you!! soo looking foward for the tecniques video!!!

    love!!

    Eli

  • i love mac makeup and brushes there the best>

  • What are the best brushes for a good price? MAC is a bit pricey for me

  • i have oily lids too. i use udpp and also coastal scents eye poxy primer. you should try that if you haven't yet!! it's great.

  • woww, koren! you're amazing! but can i ask you what might be the loew cornell alternatives to the 217 and 242? thank you! :)

  • 217 is Anns Mop flat and 242 is a filbert brush - just eyeball the size.

  • Koren, you are so amazing. Thank you so much for making my make up application muuch easier!

  • awesome video :)

  • OMG!!! Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU.

I saw a lot of videos on Youtube, but was EXTREMELY confused as to where to start for brushes. This one video helped me tremendously!!!

  • the word you were looking for was "prickly",,i know exactly what you're talking about regarding the feeling of the goat hair, thoughi find that to be the case with those kind of brushes of all types, not just the blender brush

  • Hi Koren...I was wondering if you can do a tutorial on how to apply loose eyeshadows. Thanks!

  • Great video, it helps us beginners know what we really need to spend the big bucks on........at the MAC store!

  • Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!

  • Koren, as ever your videos are so helpful, they are great, you really are a makeup guru in my opinion. You always take the time to explain things patiently in lamens terms, make everything understandable and always done with enthusiasm. Keep it up!

  • thank you so much for the video i have always been confused by the dfferent types of brushes

  • How come no one ever seems to talk about the Urban Decay brushes? I have lots of MAC brushes as well as all the UD ones, and the UD brushes blow MAC out of the water! They are all well-made, good combination of density and softness, great for both cream and powder, and very versatile!

  • I agree as well. I love their brushes, they look very cute, and they are all synthetic as well. That wonder brush is just amazing.

  • I really have asked for brushes for Christmas!!!! lol bump all that other mess give me some make-up brushes!

  • Great video and a lot of good information. Thanks Enkore

    Happy Holidays

  • Thanks! Koren. I feel the same way about the 222..I HARDLY EVER use it

  • P.S., since Christmas is coming up,I was thinking of getting my sister who likes makeup but doesn't have any, a starter eyeshadow brush that she can use for a variety of things. Would you recommend the 217 for her? Thanks!!

  • the 217 is the best ever!!!

  • yes, definitely

  • Thank you sooo much for this video! You're awesome. Happy Thanksgiving! :)

  • i'm vegetarian, do you know if the animals are killed for the hair? and if they are is there any synthetic options that will work the same as the natural brushes?

    thank you!

    xox

  • no no no!! they are def not killed for the hair..at least mac brushes..mac is also animal testing free! however some of the higher end brands like umm chanel do use animal testing..

  • the hairs are shaven off the animal, much like wool from sheeps. So the animals are not harmed at all to harvest brush bristles. There are syntho brushes that works the same as naturals. Check out Crown Brushes or Coastal Scents and view their syntho lines.

  • Thank you so much. You're very knowledgable. I always enjoy your vid.

  • thank you enkore for the info is very helpful all of your videos are great!
