This video makes me proud to be a torres strait islander. My old man worked in queensland for some time but mostly fettled in W.A on the iron ore rail systems in the pilbara, he must of liked the place because i was born here an we're still here today. Haha. If you want something interesting to watch try and track down the doco "Tjila trail" it documented the Mt Newman line construction and how track teams broke the world record, 7miles in one day, damn! Cheers for the video really aprecciated!
I worked on the line to South Blackwater around the same time. It was only about 30 miles but mostly built on mud. Lousy material for road & rail building. Those blokes from TI were among the fastest tracklayers in the world then. I never got to see them at work, except from a distance. I have photos of the first wagon of the first train being loaded at South Blackwater, second half of 1970. I should do something with them. You do find some obscure films. Thanks.

@tvlguy24 The Senior Construction Engineer is from Louisiana. The Black Fellas are mostly from the Torres Strait islands.

Yes I like seeing these fellas at work on video. As I have stated before I wouldn't mind doing a model of a work gang like that.

Those blokes from TI are bloody good. I wouldn't mind doing them on a model train layout.
I got a few these videos from people in QR and the model train club. I've gotta to upload some more at some point.
