This looks like it might have been capable of EF4 or 5 damage but did not leave sufficient evidence based on the structures it hit. It is incredibly vigorous.
For those of you who are just a bit misinformed, Phil Campbell had one tornado and it was an F-5. It did not have 5-6 tornados, just that one. Haleyville had one tornado that was an F-3.
This same tornado formed just before the Pearidge area, where we live, and i believe if it was as big as the Hackleburg storm, I wouldnt be here typing this message...
why are there dislikes? this is a great video of something terrible... rate the video, not the damn storm! >:P
My most educated gues tells me that there were at least 2 tornados. The thornhill-Haleyville. And the hackleburg-Phil Campbell tornado. And depending on where east franklin was hit there was possible a third. If a tornado hit in the mondye area, neither of the twisters would have tracked that way. ?
@1gulfport - I don't know the local geography by experience, but I can confirm that you're right. This tornado occurred after Hackleburg and Phil Campbell were already devastated. Marion County was hit by at least three significant tornadoes and maybe 5 or more supercells that day.
i am looking for my brother Phillip Baker and family they live in the Phil Campbell area, HIs momma is Faylene Baker she works at the hospital in Russellville Please send any information to harley2lov@yahoo.com Thank you , God bless, I send my thoughts and prayer to everyone in my hometown of Phil Campbell.
we dont realize we are so lucky or we dont realize a disaster of this magnitude can happen to us...but its possible and it can happen....i am thinking of all of these people who have lost there lives it breaks my heart:(
I'm a little confused by this. I have lived here my whole life. Hwy 129 is NOWHERE near the path of the Phil Campbell Tornado. There is no way this footage of that tornado. This is footage of the Haleyville tornado. I just dont get why theywould say it was the PC one. I find that kind of disrespectful to the citizens of Hackleburg, Phil Campbell and Haleyville. He couldn't have gotten footage from Thornhill and Phil Campbell both. No way at all.
@Queenredd77 - Adam here, I drove through Phil Campbell, Hackleburg and Halyeville that day. I am not from the area and got confused, on my map Phil Campbell was the only towns name that showed up so I used it as a point of reference to my general location. I meant no disrespect and apologize if you take offense.
I live about 10 min away from this. I know people that have lost there loved ones and everything they have. I know people that are still lost. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers.
I live in Haleyville, and we could see one of the tornadoes from our front porch as we were running to the storm cellar. Our house was missed by about 100 yards. We were extrememly lucky.
i live 5 miles away from phil cambell. in russellville. and we didnt get touched. the damage there and in hackleberg was tragic. i pray for all your families, as i understand the losses that you're enduring.
I was raised in Phil Campbell and my grandparents lived there their entire lives. They ran a store in the Antioch community. They and my brother both lay to rest there. My heart goes out to this community. I feel the need to be there and help.
@chefjcb24 I know that feeling I spent many summers in PHIL CAMPBELL as a teen working with my father doing tree work.I still have family there and am willing to do whatever I can to help GOD knows they need it.Last I Heard my stepbrother is still missing I will keep praying for him and all the others affected by the tornadoes.TC and BWS
Apologize for what? Who is trying to capitalize off of this video with KDR printed all over it? What does storm chasing do? Give you a thrill? Awesome, have fun with that, all of it. We have sophisticated technologies that detect the rotation in the atmosphere, its called doppler radar, thats where we get our tornado warnings from. Any schmuck with a phone can call 911 when they see a tornado on the ground. Apologize? Please...
Radar detect ROTATIONS in the storm. they can GUESS there is a tornado on the ground. CHASERS AND SPOTTERS CONFIRM THAT for NWS. Without documentation of these tornadoes OR CONFIRMATION FROM TRAINED SPOTTERS AND CHASERS you have no warning.
@boik02 Copied... Each NWS forecast office uses output from at least one Doppler radar in the area to help to determine if a warning is needed. and pasted. I went and found that for you. Spotters do help confirm, that website agrees. Still the water marks?
If you don't water mark video. It is stolen from youtube video stealers.(yes this happens) Watermarking helps you retain ownership to full ownership of your RAW uncut non watermarked footage.
If he didnt have this video do you honestly think the death toll would be any less? Little do you know that Him and his chase partners helped as much as they could down their and that they have donated a substanial amount to the red cross and will be donating even more in the coming week. What have you done to help the situation?
@johnss11n Ask me this, where would you get your warning if doppler radar gets taken out of commission because of a tornado goes through? You can have a huge man crush all you want on radar but the bottom line is you need chasers and spotters for ground truth, always have always will. You may not like how chasers act during filming but you will thank them one day if an EF5 comes straight for your town and your precious radar doesn't work to give you a warning.
200 total in alabama:( really sad i live 30 miles from phil campbell and EVERYONE around was hit except us. it feels as if i shouldnt be here now. prayers to any family members or friends of people in this storm.
do you fail to realize the emotions you experience when you chase? You think they're celebrating destruction? I know Adam personally. I would wish for you to retract this statement and apologize. This person helped save your life by calling 911, EMS, NWS to save lives. you think that's excitement? Part of it is. the other part is he's thinking of the seriousness of the situation.
This looks like it might have been capable of EF4 or 5 damage but did not leave sufficient evidence based on the structures it hit. It is incredibly vigorous.
