the Malaysian army still uses this Scorpion besides their new PT-91M lol. their Scorpions were fitted with a 90mm Mk3 Cockerill cannon. shook the fuck outta the tank everytime it fires xD.
@samipso My dad was REME and he said he wouldn't want to drive this into battle. It's the same as the Scimitar that the Belgium Army produced. Small arms fire can penetrate this armour.
There was supposed to be an APDS round for the Scorpion 90 -see near end of clip - but the stress of firing the 90mm gun proved too much for the aluminium alloy and it didn't go into service (with the British at least). Compared well against M551 mainly because Scorpion could carry a lot more ammunition. A 16th/5th Lancers Scorpion was credited with a T55 kill on Op Granby whereas AFAIK no Scorpion was ever lost in combat to a tank (as a recce vehicle it is more about seeing without being seen).
i loved scorpion....it was great to fire great to drive....it was part of my life for a long time...ive froze my ass of in it when the heater packed up...ive warmed my whole body (nearly) on the decks...ive scalded my hands on getting cans out of the BV...ive cut my hands on removing its enginegaerbox and firewall...ive raced along the autobahns....scorpion was a part of my life and i cant still smell her ...if you were on scorp then you know what i mean.....she was a cat
To clarify myself I believe the L23 was considered a low velocity gun and this would preclude any effective use of APDS (was there a APDS round for the Scorp?)
The narrator actually talks about APDS over a shot of a Scimitar turret traversing - Scimitar uses the 30mm RARDEN cannon which does fire APDS, APSE, training, etc. I think it's just an error.
Yes, I do know that. The video makes a clear mistake though - Scorpion NEVER fired APDS, while the RARDEN-equipped vehicles do. That's what the original poster was querying.
I can well understand why lol, despite their size they are tiny in the inside, im 6ft and I could just fit in it & would say either the enermy or the suspension are going to kill you if your in one lol

riding that thing would make me sick. Look how much it wobbles around when driving. Those T-bars are really tweaked.

yes the philippine army still uses it, but they need a new light tank like the stingray that is presently used by the royal thai army

definitely the best recon tank in the world, designed in the 70's but even still its so maneuverable and fast.

A 90mm gun on a vehicle that small?!!
Danny77uk 2 years ago
Aluminum armor? Doesn't that mean it doesn't shatter on impact, thus being better at protecting the crew than steel armour of the same grade?

It supposedly has a lower ground pressure from its tracks than a man walking on the same terrain.

the philippine army is still using scorpion tanks.. its fast and light..

A scorpion would be toast even against a T-55 with a 100mm gun. How does it compare with the M551 Sheridan?
WASPfreak 2 years ago
the new updated scimitar replaced the scorpion.
its took RPGs in iraq and afghan and road side bombs and was facing t 72s in the latest iraq wars with no loses.

The 76mm fired APDS?I thought it HESH was the anti armour round.
155383 3 years ago
HESH is a multi-functional round that can be used as anti-tank. Sabot rounds are non explosive and only anti-tank ammo

is it able to burst leo or challengers armor????
it as a high fire rate i suppose you could use it against aircraft???
check out wiesel its the german substitute to the scorpion

@TankNutDave apds was not used as far as i knowwe only had hesh ,he,no sabot as the 76 doesnt have the energy to fire a sabot
